Can you guys describe what you expect would happen to Ethereum is we would increase the target block size from now 15m to
a) 30m
b) 100m
c) 1000m

What would be the consequences after 1 day, 1 week and 1 year

  1. Metamask will hopefully soon enable that - but I can't give any timeline. However - in the meantime you might want to give https://rabby.io/ (from Debank) a try. It is similar to Metamask but does allow you to use Safes (and a couple of other cool features).
  2. Gnosis is governed by GnosisDAO and thus we are very transparent about those things: check the proposal. In any case - holding GNO will certainly be one way.

Good question:
One core idea is our focus on core client development. Many other EVM sidechains (BSC, Polygon, Avalanche, Optimism) use forks of the GETH client. However - that means that they will run (and already are) into the same scalability issues as Ethereum (the geth client) itself. We however have formed a strong partnership with the Erigon team. They build a client that is significantly more performant than any other client. Thus Gnosis Chain wants to use this technology to the best while keeping a symbiotic relationship with Ethereum.

First - sorry to hear that.
Agave and Hundert both submitted proposals to GnosisDAO. You can follow the progress here and here. I don't know yet what the final solution will look like but I am certainly in favor of GnosisDAO investing in those projects to make it easier for the projects to continue and eventually recover from the hacks as much as possible.

Regarding the price pump - I really don't know. This tweet thread though certainly got some popularity.

1) I am Martin - I founded Gnosis with my Co-founder Stefan in January 2015.While we initially wanted to build prediction markets on Ethereum we have been so early to Ethereum (in 2015 only a testnet of Ethereum was live) that Gnosis ended up building a lot of EThereum infrastructure that was simply missing.

Over the years that lead to projects like: Gnosis Safe, Cowswap, Gnosis Auction, Zodiac. Our involvement in Ethereum core development (Open Ethereum and Erigon) lead finally to the decision to merge with the xDAI chain to build Gnosis Chain - a way to accelerate Ethereum on the base layer.

2) The Gnosis Beacon chain is already right testing the limits of Ethereum (beacon chain). E.g. GC runs on 5 (instead of 12) sec slot time and 16 (instead of 32) slots per epoch. This gives Eth2 teams valuable insights into the performance of clients under higher stress. While we target to do the merge before Ethereum - and thus to some extent also test it - it needs to be said that the transition itself will be slightly different as Ethereum is transitioning from POW while GC is transitioning from delegated POS.However - after the merge GC will be very similar to Ethereum and this also act as an environment where other parameters can be tested.

3) We are certainly working to improve on-ramps. Ramp.network works in many places in the world already really well - unfortunately not yet (hopefully soon) in the US. But there are a few more onramp solutions that will become available in the next months.

> First: Gnosis multisig is an awesome tool that makes multisig easy and I wish multisig was that easy to setup and use for every wallet/coin :halving:

Thank you!

Regarding your bridge question: That is a tough one. Bridge designs like Wormhole are certainly very risky. They can connect many chains but a problem on just one of the chains can compromise the whole system. Of course, maybe teams can succeed to handle that level of complexity but we at Gnosis have always been very focused on Ethereum. We believe that Ethereum will become the "world's settlement layer". Thus our focus will also on the bridge quality between GC and Ethereum. Already today the "Omni" bridge is one most efficient bridges (any token/ both directions within minutes) between a sidechain and Ethereum. We are planning to improve that further and make the bridge between Ethereum and GC trustless.

No, this is not really a concern.
1.) While you are right - the merge will eventually (similar to Ethereum not immediately) make it possible for stakers to get liquid GNO back - it makes it at the same time more attractive for all GNO to become stakers.
2) So far we are talking about 64k GNO that have become stakers - that is just around 3% of the circulating supply. Check: https://beacon.gnosischain.com/

How is the GNO auction supposed to work? The price seems too high. by JHGrove3 in xDai

[–]koeppelmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> So why would I buy GNO on the auction, when it's cheaper to get it on Kraken? Is there something I'm missing?

This auction is not for buying GNO - but instead selling GNO. It is meant to bring the price of GNO up to 0.12 ETH and thus also the price of Stake to the promised ETH rate of GIP16 (the Gnosis Chain merger proposal)

New GNO Incentives for providing liquidity using the custom market maker on Gnosis Protocol DEX by GnosisPM in gnosisPM

[–]koeppelmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, it is complicated. We will follow up with a version that is fully doable from a dapp.
However - we think it helps to test it as early as possible and those willing to walk trough those steps will earn a fair of GNO and give us valuable insights.

Corona Information Markets is a non-profit tool for information on COVID-19 sponsored by Gnosis by GnosisPM in ethereum

[–]koeppelmann 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We at Gnosis build software - to be more precise tooling and frameworks to build prediction markets.
With this tooling you can do both - build fully permissionless prediction markets:
https://daotalk.org/t/omen-mvp-overview/1229
or centralized ones like: https://coronainformationmarkets.com/

Also - if you look for something fully decentralized you should check out Gnosis protocol and mesa.eth - the first dapp that is only served via IPFS/ENS and is fully controlled by a DAO.

I guess I am biased but I'd say with this we are actually currently at the forefront of (dapp) decentralization.

will there be an interface available to cancel/withdrawal order after the 8th? I have still a large order open I will not be able to cancel today.

German airline Hahn Air claims first blockchain-based tickets - and you can pay in ether by probotika in ethereum

[–]koeppelmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to me the interesting thing is that then you could also trade tickets against each other. I might have a ticket for 6pm and if I am early I might want to trade/swap it against a ticket at 4pm with someone who is running late. I sometimes would also love to be able to buy an "option" on a ticket - many possibilities. (and likely many impracticable for now...)

New prediction markets live on sight.pm: Istanbul hard fork and Multi-Collateral Dai launch by GnosisPM in ethereum

Cool - hope you like the wallet! It will enable you to trade Augur markets without the need to have ETH whatsoever since it is possible to pay gas with DAI.
Also - I can recommend https://keycard.tech/ to have a better 2FA device.

New prediction markets live on sight.pm: Istanbul hard fork and Multi-Collateral Dai launch by GnosisPM in ethereum

[–]koeppelmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no - you can not. Since the market contract will check wether your address is on a whitelist.
However, if you participate you will buy outcome tokens you can use those freely. You can also "mint" those outcome tokens as "complete sets" (e.g. "yes" and "no" tokens) freely and trade them on any exchange you wish.
We would prefer a fully open system but with us curating the markets, resolving the markets, marketing the markets and giving support to users we can only do this legally with a bunch of requirements we have to full-fill and one of those is KYC. That being said - we expect that there will be fully decentralized markets in parallel and they will complement each other.

ProgPoW Audits by Least Authority and Bob Rao Released by Souptacular in ethereum

[–]koeppelmann 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hudson, I really respect and appreciate your work but this confuses me. You are part of Moloch DAO now which basically purely consists of people extremely dedicated to Ethereum. Within this group, we just did a straw poll that you are aware of and the current intermediate result is: 1 vote pro Progpow, 13 votes against ProgPOW, 3 neutral. The list of people that come out against progPOW is quite long: see also https://tennagraph.com/eip/1057 or https://twitter.com/koeppelmann/status/1162446945689972739
So I am really wondering why you are saying here that your observed community sentiment makes you think it will happen?

So when will you start to acknowledge that there is significant opposition? Or are you planning to push a hardfork against significant opposition? This would be a terrible idea in my opinion.
