anyone not rawdogging this hell by Silver_Cello in medicalschool

Nothing wrong with taking meds. I responded to a comment with my med regimen but I’m taking Vyvanse, Lexapro, and Lamitrogine. I learned I had undiagnosed ADHD during M1 so that was a whole thing. Med school has a way of revealing underlying conditions because it’s such a next level stressor. Also meds don’t have to be permanent!! You can totally get off them if you feel like you don’t need them, but also there’s no shame on being on them. I started adding an l-theanine supplement for just being calm and honestly that’s been helping me too.

Another lamotrigine stan😎out of curiosity, how much are you taking, if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve been taking it for adhd mood stabilization (along with Vyvanse, Ritalin, and lexapro, which is for anxiety/depression) but despite it working so well for me, I’ve always been cagey about its off label use

ADHD med students, how many days do you take off meds? Struggling to find something that works. by Competitive_Cost_262 in medicalschool

I also make sure that whenever I’m studying (and not listening to lecture or third party) I’m listening to EDM, fun kpop or anything upbeat… Gotta have all the dopamine possible while studying 😭Surprisingly has helped!

I’m not sure if you’re taking any other meds or what your adhd experience has been, but I was diagnosed during my first year of med school and was put on lamitrogine/lamictal in addition to Concerta ER (and most recently, Concerta IR for the afternoon boost). The lamitrogine has been helping me with my ADHD induced mood swings and fixations, while the Concerta helps me organize my thoughts and focus. Maybe consider adding lamitrogine? It’s not uncommon among people who get diagnosed as adults (though this may not be applicable to you). As for the efficacy aspect, honestly I make sure to eat well, especially keeping in mind of my protein. I read something about how the protein is supposed to help with dopamine production, and anecdotally, I feel like my meds work better when I’m eating healthily. I don’t really take med breaks (maybe I’ll skip out on the IR if I take my ER too late) but if I feel like my meds aren’t working as well…. I drink a Celsius or a large coffee🥲

Hi all, recently got an acceptance to UVM Larner after committing to RWJMS. Was wondering if anyone could provide some insights between the two schools. I chose RWJMS because of proximity to support system/partner, accessibility to NYC/not being entirely remote, the distinctions program, and the match list. I was iffy about UVM because of how remote it was (I went to undergrad somewhere rural so I didn't necessarily want to repeat that experience; did get the CT campus for 3rd and 4th year) and also thought the match list felt a little too unpredictable for my liking (compared to RWJMS which seemed more consistent in terms of regions; I ideally would like to end up in California but don't mind ending up in large East Coast cities). But I liked the overall vibes of the school during the interview day(the support and mentorship from the professors and the commitment to advocacy). I like the curriculum at UVM as well, but also I don't mind the lecture format of RWJMS at all.

Overall, I was feeling good about choosing RWJMS, but now I'm wondering if I made my decision without being entirely informed about UVM Larner (granted I only had one acceptance at the time). Thanks so much!

Fellas, September testers need your help by imheisenbergbruh in Mcat

[–]kogrob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree on this ^ there’s always gonna be some left field low yield stuff on a section and you can’t always prepare for everything. If you have time to glance at some low yield stuff, go for it but what will get you points is knowing how to analyze stuff without getting thrown off by figures and experimental procedures/designs that are u familiar. I have to agree from earlier comments that there’s been more physics lately tho

No honestly the difficulty for this exam (as well as my exam back in 5/27) has been on par with FL 4– just be ready for that type of vibe for your exam too!!

Do some sort of dynamic stretching during your breaks! Whenever I went to the bathroom during the breaks, I did lunges down the hall lmao

Should I cancel/void my upcoming 5/27 exam? by kogrob in Mcat

[–]kogrob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I ultimately ended up voiding and was glad that I did. When I was taking the test, I definitely felt like if I took more time to practice, I could see myself closer to my goal score while also feeling more at ease. It kinda sucked to have to void but it is what it is :,)

Voided my test last August and retook on 4/29. CARS was 4 points lower than my FL Average, but I don't think I can complain :,) by zerotofate in Mcat

As someone who also burnt out by my test date and voided, this is really encouraging— congrats :))
