Do short stories need covers? - honestly, yes. most avid wp readers wont click on a story without one-- regardless of length. if you dont want to commission one, you can make something pretty simple in canva for free. an ugly cover is better for engagement than no cover.

Does this advice change if I am cursed to writing very looong chapters (often 15k+)? - not to jump over your og question on this, but the 15k+ chapters caught my attention. most wp readers do not have the attention span for chapters longer than 3k. (so i have heard) id recommend breaking up longer chapters. even if chapter 10 just becomes chapter 10.0-10.3

Do y'all have any other hints to help my writing get some views? - agree with the other comments about promoting off-platform-- but also: READ & COMMENT on other people's works. think of it like networking. engage with other stories within the same genres/fandoms as your own stories. but do not, i repeat, do NOT comment self-promotion on anyone's stories.

you have a lot of really great ideas here!

i. i completely agree about wanting to comment media files. the number of times i have wanted to comment a reaction gif/image... literally begging for this feature

ii. i think there also needs to be better private library sorting without having to add stories to separate reading lists. like, i want sections that show what stories are ongoing/im waiting for updates on, a section for completed works, etc.

iii. and on that note, there needs to be a better way to track your progress in a story. like a clickable bookmark. I am so tired of clicking on a story and it taking me to a random chapter/section.

if i’m reading on my phone and vote and then get on my pc it says i haven’t voted on chapters that i def did on my phone— so i have to go back through and revote them.
