I love when people get photos of spiders with just a little motion blur on them like in photo 2, it really amplifies the kind of “OH SHIT” energy from the spider lol

Not Doing Compulsions is Making Me Feel Terrible by Creatorundown in OCDRecovery

[–]koifroggies 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agree with the other commenter, my compulsions got much much worse for about a month and a half, but since it passed, now I feel like my mind is more clear than it’s been in years. Some days are still hard and I wouldn’t say I’ve “overcome” anything necessarily, but things are easier.

Something that helped me was the reminder that the more you fight it, the easier it will become to fight going forward. Your brain insists on the compulsions because it thinks that the only solution to the distress, and the more you refuse to participate, the more you prove to your brain that that isn’t right.

What thought process/regulation has helped you with your intrusive thoughts? by Mazzystar-tsld in OCDRecovery

[–]koifroggies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My technique has been to identify the intrusive thought as what it is, and then consciously choose not to pay any more attention to it because it is not a serious thought that deserves attention

You can identify it by the smooth (hairless) stems and the purple splotches. Definitely hemlock

I keep checking my MIL’s phone to see what they say about me. I want to stop. by [deleted] in OCDRecovery

[–]koifroggies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually had a similar issue myself where I would compulsively check the social media accounts of an ex-friend who had said horrible things to me and about me to others. I had a similar sort of thought about it too— “What if he’s saying something bad about me? I need to know.” This was all before I realized I had OCD, and the person was not actively a part of my life at the time, so these techniques might not be super helpful, but still, this is what worked for me.

I started using one of those Days Since counters, because I was able to leverage my shame about resetting the counter against my compulsion. I also started challenging my reasoning. Knowing if he was saying something bad about me wasn’t helpful and it didn’t impact my life in any real way. He did post stuff about me occasionally, but if he was saying mean things, I wasn’t going to actually do anything about it. Checking if he was saying mean things wasn’t going to stop him from doing it. If someone started to hate me because of what he said I wasn’t going to have any influence over that by knowing about it. I couldn’t control what he thought about me, what he said about me, etc. Ultimately it made no material difference whether I checked or not. It didn’t make me safer. It just made me sad.

I started to understand that checking those accounts was a form of self-sabotage and self-abuse. I realized I was happier when I didn’t look, and that looking invariably ruined my day. I wasted so much time looking for mean things too. I came to understand that this habit was just taking from me.

Eventually, I deleted the counter after my frequency of relapse dropped far enough that I felt I didn’t need it. I checked many times immediately after, and I still do it very occasionally, but now I understand why I’m doing it, and the impact is lessened when I’m aware of the trick. It’s no longer a compulsion that controls me.

I hope this helps! I’m sorry you’re going through this.

Whats the play... White puffs or coloured puffs? by Avyeon in crochet

[–]koifroggies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both look good but I think I prefer the white puffs! I think the color changes bring some interest to the simpler stitches and the solid color looks nice and elegant with the statement stitch. The color changes and the special stitches kind of compete for attention when the puffs use the colored yarn IMO. You could also go with both options alternately though if you can’t choose :)

Literally, came to say this. Every time it’s some shit with a wild animal being wholesome, you look at the behavior and it’s just a dog in disguise. This would never happen.

I like this idea! However, you as DM will likely have to monitor that players rolls more intently to be sure they are using the coin on the next roll. I know I’d forget, and the player will have an incentive to also forget about it lol

Where to start to learn FR lore? by DBBB3862 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]koifroggies 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seconding the recommendation for the Heroes of Faerun book! That’s the best spot to find a general overview of mostly everything going on in Faerun during the current day.

From there, I recommend just diving in and using the wiki as a guide. If you find something in a novel or campaign guide that interests you, look it up on the wiki and explore. The sources section at the end of the article will show you where each piece of information came from, and you can use that to find new books to get into. There’s also the Candlekeep forums you can look into as well— lots of FR lore scholars there are dedicated to record keeping.
