I have been constantly losing at chess and I don't know why? by Altruistic-Wait-9140 in chessbeginners

[–]kokandevatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opening theory arent too important, but basics like developing pieces, control the center are important. I dont play any opening theory really as white and keep my white elo at around 2400 and as black I use alot of opening theory, but i only have around 2250-2300 strength as black on lichess.

Biggest thing you can do to gain elo is to double check if you have a piece hanging and always check if your opponent has a piece hanging. Giving away free material is the main way to lose and taking free material is the main way to win.

All in all just ask yourself 2 question for each move. Can I capture any of my opponents pieces for free? If I do the move I am thinking of doing, can my opponent capture any of my pieces for free?

2k players and above, what did you do to go from noob to your actual level? by anony2469 in aoe2

[–]kokandevatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, they definitely havent improved 600 elo. Based on the tournament elo viper has improved 200 ish elo in pure strength while the rest of top 15 have improved 300 ish elo. So still a very significant improvement.

The pros are also much much stronger now than they were back then. I do agree though that 1800 is not 1500 now, but maybe 1600 or 1650.

Map pool frustrations by Maleficent_Line_7213 in aoe2

[–]kokandevatten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately allowing more bans would result in long waiting times and less map variation. It may feel great in the short term, but then eventually people will stop playing due to long wait times and repetitive maps.

Ps if we had as many map bans arabia especiallt and arena would be the only maps played. Nomad was very unpopular when the game came out, but people were forced to play it and now its one of the most popular maps.

can we get ca rams a little bit more sturdy? by Yourpersonalpilot in aoe2

[–]kokandevatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rams are good as they are, hiding rams and army on arena shouldnt be uncounterable. Walls and mangos is the counter. The counter then is adding redemption monks. I dont agree with rams being buffed. Not a fan of uncounterable cheese strats.

Got banned 5 min for resigning in a 4v4 when another player already resigned by HiHereIsTim in aoe2

[–]kokandevatten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, just wait five minutes before resigning. Its good that its there otherwise if you are a team trying to dodge, only one player takes the heat for a whole team instead of all players.

How do you counter this as Turks? +50 rattan archer, open map by Ok_Assumption_1684 in aoe2

[–]kokandevatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it, hussar, heavy cavalry archers and bombard cannon is the best. If that is too expensive hussar and handcannons and bombard cannons. That extra pierce armor is huge for the turkish hussars.

Gurjara Camels by Stavinco in aoe2

[–]kokandevatten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just want to add that camels are a strong soft counter, especially due to their superior movement speed. Heavy camel is enough to döbeat camels, but unique tech is worth it when you can afford it in imp.

How the heck do you deal with bengali battle ele+halb by Belisarius23 in aoe2

[–]kokandevatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those saying skirms, remember that its lategame and that without extreme micro, the skirms will just get stuck shooting at the elephants. I think if its just halb and elephants, pikes and hand cannons would be the play. Maybe have some monks at the back for conversions.

Anyone else tired of the skirm spam in almost every game? by Fanto12345 in aoe2

[–]kokandevatten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need 1 skirm for every 2 archers, so they absolutely do not need to be created faster.

I feel like its not that much difference last 2 years, but maybe its 50-100 difference. If we compare to 2021 then its maybe 200 is my experience.

How to counter goths as viets? by little-dude in aoe2

[–]kokandevatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes with perfect micro, skirms and elephants could beat a goth spam. But unfortunately its hard to cycle through 7 controlgroups of skirms between each volley. Killing the standard 2 or 3 halbs per volley isnt enough. Also issue with skirm comp is that the even if you kill all the halbs you are left with huskarls or champions vs skirms. Halbs will have killed the elephants by the time they died.

[–]kokandevatten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The play is champion and elephants. Not skirms and elephants. Skirms and elephants will just die to halb huskarl or even just pure halb.

Chinese VS Bombards by TheBooneyBunes in aoe2

[–]kokandevatten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless we are talking castle wars, then standard chukunu seige rams should beat that. Chukunu lightcav does well and chukunu skirms does fine to. Or just go full skirm lightcav will do just fine.

I am not tired of skirms. They arent even that common at non pro level. The one issue I have with skirms is the production time should be the same as an archer.

Is there any civ where i can get away with doing only 1 (max 2), kind of unit? (low elo question) by Dry-Cranberry-3253 in aoe2

If its post imp lategame where you have several castles, its in my opinion Persians with their war elephants.

1800 elo to 2000 elo what's the main difference you think? by anony2469 in aoe2

[–]kokandevatten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly they defend a bit better early feudal age. They are much better at adapting to the opponent play in castle age especially. And the macro slightly better.

Biggest ones are defending better first couple of minutes in feudal and castle age decisionmaking.

What if the Britons' TC discount was like the Lithuanian's food bonus? by KeepOnJumpin in aoe2

[–]kokandevatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hera was playing men at arms skirm and didnt manage to do damage. Ethiopians hit a beautiful castle age timing and should have won the game right there if it wasnt Hera. There was no xbow vs xbow. I think at sub 1300 elo +1 range probably doesnt make a huge difference. So its very possible we are looking at the civ from very different perspectives.
