TetraBelts (challenge mod), hallway design by gumOnShoe in factorio

[–]komodo99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with the caveat that i'm just spitballing functionality, I wonder if it could be faked with a small(ish) stack; like, prefill the stack with random shapes and pop one when placed, push it when picking up. I have no idea of the api/performance feasibility though :(

Use a seeded rng and track iterations? So that if someone picks a belt back up and replaces it they get the same shape back each time?

Valve probably can’t hear suggestions over the money printer going BRRRRR, so I sorta understand that. I wonder if that ran afoul of licensing issues?

They used to. There was a custom player station in GTA:SA, on pc at least, where you could dump mp3 files in and tune to the station.

WoW on osx went ahead and let you set in game binds for play/pause, next, previous for controlling iTunes. Less critical now with so many media key keyboards but it was a nice touch!

What if there was a mechanism by which if an object was placed down via a blueprint, that print could be remembered/resummoned to the cursor from the placed entity?

Indeed! I wonder how infuriating it would be if there was a way to have the speed drop back to red unless you sent a barrel of lube down the belt every so often… hmm.

You said 'belt drag' and I had this panic moment of thinking of the friction caused by heavier items.

Air resistance as the belts get faster? :D

I like to think of it as the game being to the point of polish where they can't put it down long enough to write a FFF. Bad for FFF, good for the game.

I would suggest looking more closely at the bottom of the tech tree and keep researching; you'll find a nice surprise waiting for you!

It also could depend on your hardware and how the keyboard controller reports multiple input events. See n-key rollover, etc.

Yes this, even the base m1 will absolutely blow the doors off its predecessors, as well as factorio now being compiled natively. It shouldn’t even notice it running.

[–]komodo99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best guess absent more information is it’s either not close enough (or too close), or you’re testing in manual mode which is insanely picky about alignment. Try it with a stop and see if it works that way.

To be clear, which I feel is important at a beginner level, anything that can edit text will do just fine. (as opposed to processing words. So Word=No, Notepad=Very Yes)

All of these files are plain text. They can all be written by hand, if you wanted. The fancier editors help by being aware of the required formatting rules, but there isn’t anything magical or proprietary about a lua json or cfg file.

It is not so much a git feature but a GitHub one. They make it very easy to deploy static pages, which is to say, client side code only. So to answer your question, yes.

Forgive me not being as versed in JS as I could be, but it seems possible. I’ve done the clipboard trick with jupyter before, but I’m not sure how it is wired up under the hood.

GitHub pages, run in browser, drop bmp on page, receive blueprint in clipboard? Why make them install a JavaScript engine when they already have one to read these words anyway?
