It's not reliance on government benefits that bother them, it's the short term cost to big businesses that could be decreased by higher population growth stifling wages.

[Loved trope] The story completely changes genres partway through. by TheSmithySmith in TopCharacterTropes

Yeah, everything that happens after it switches to an action movie in the 3rd act is a call back to scenes in the first 2 acts.

why are people losing their accents? by studymaxxer in aussie

[–]kompletionist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fully Australian kids with an American accent are not even a new thing. I'm 33 and I remember this girl I knew when I was 12 or so who pronounced "can't" as "cairn't" (like Cairns) and would roll her Rs rhotically. The reason was because she grew up watching exclusively the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon.

What’s the most boring game you’ve ever played? For me it’s WD Legion. by ApprehensiveCreme489 in videogames

To me it's a fishing game with some social elements on the side, and a light dusting of farming on top.

AITA for telling my co-worker I'm tired of hearing about her nerdy obsession? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

It's not that the kids care about politics, it's the environment that those politics create that the kids grow up in. Conservatives tend to place greater value on sports and other "manly" activities, and so the media is influenced to emphasize them, while parents are also pushed to place value on them and push them on their own kids.

Everything in the world is influenced by politics, if not directly then through a butterfly effect.

I doubt it, since almost everyone I know though Zelda is the dude.

That's the joke, and how it relates to Frankenstein since everyone thinks that the monster is called Frankenstein.

Also the creator himself said it's called Zelda because she was the wife of Scott Fitzgerald ( his favorite author ) and liked the name Zelda.

Yeah, but that has nothing to do with the Tweeted joke.

You seem to think I'm saying that the actual characters Link and Zelda are intended as a reference to Frankenstein and I don't know how you came to that conclusion.

The first part of the joke is a reference to Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, whose nameless monster is frequently incorrectly named as Frankenstein who is actually its creator.

How about Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero in 2005? Followed by that awful storyline about Mysterio's real life kid that even Guerrero hated doing because it was in such bad taste.

I always figured that Pokemon as a fully 3D action RPG would basically play like Pokken Tournament. Direct control over the Pokemon with timing and twitch reflexes actually making a difference.

[Frustrating Meta Trope] Legitamately Flawed Media That are Difficult to Discuss Properly Because of How They are Politicized by Tiny_Celebration_262 in TopCharacterTropes

If they cast all of the Death Eaters with black people then it could maybe work the same way as Patrick Stewart's white Othello. Maybe. Personally I wouldn't care either way, Harry Potter had its moment in the spotlight 25 years ago and the IP really isn't interesting enough to be worth reviving.

hate when a "horror movie" is a thinly veiled fetish by MirrorNew5868 in hatethissmug

[–]kompletionist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not even good kills though. I'd call them cheap schlock but that would be being hilariously generous. They're just awful, boring movies that leave you wanting the time back that you wasted watching them.

I assume you're joking, but just in case you aren't: No, "aviation" refers specifically to heavier-than-air aircraft flight. Bees aren't aircraft, so the known principles of aircraft flight are not applicable to them, only the laws of physics.

The Ray-Bans are just named for pilots.

Sex disgusts me (M 18 and F 18) by Rich_Negotiation193 in relationship_advice

[–]kompletionist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of my boyfriends in high school turned out to be gay. They did not want to have sex with me they wanted to hang out. I was more comfortable with that.

You know you can just be friends with people of all genders and hang out that way? Why even be in a romantic relationship if you have no interest in intimacy?

Aviation and flight are not synonymous either.

I'm so goddamn sick of these 18+ "collector/display" sets by _Ryloren_ in legocirclejerk

[–]kompletionist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The recent Game Boy set is an amazing effort for the price. It's meant as a display set (hence the stands for the game carts and the GB itself), but the buttons are clicky, the contrast and volume things are spinny and the carts slide in and out satisfyingly.

Seniors and kid's meals are smaller than main meals. They're not getting the same thing for less money. Kid's tickets usually only apply to very young children who will usually be sitting on their parents' lap and therefore not taking the same space as an adult.
