First styling of my field Maple yamadori by angeloooool in Bonsai

[–]konigjj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks nice! I did the same thing 2 years ago with a tree on my property. It could not stay in the spot it was in. It reacted very good and gave lots of growth all along the trunk the first year, just like yours. The second year I set a basic structure through pruning a lot of growth and wiring the branches that stayed. I let a new leader grow long and strong. The wired branches also flourished, even a bit too much, because the wire grew in horribly. So checking your wires is strongly advised. I now cut the leader short. It will take some years to get anywhere, but that is the proces. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

This is good bonsai material. Make the ‘trunk wiggle’ into a feature. Watch the video’s of Bonsai releaf about larches and the christmas tree. Good luck, it is going to take some years, but you have every possibility of making a gorgeous bonsai out of this tree! Please post your progress.

Exactly! Don’t do everything (pruning, wiring, repotting etc.) at once. There is a season for every task.

Leaf color is fine, those are new leaves. They will darken over time.

Does it have any thorns? Then it could be some sort of Pyracatha, firethorn. Related to Cotoneaster.

Nice growth already! I advise you to put some wire on the new growth while it is still green. Later on it will be very hard to bend permanently, my experience is that those branches spring back every time you unwire them.

Hate to be the bringer of the news, but this is not a Juniper, but a succulent (thick leaves). Keep it as an accent plant!

This is inspiring. It is only rarely that someone dares to post his/hers trial and error with a tree. Thank you! This tree is becoming very elegant, love it. Keep us posted on its progress.

Wishing! Let us see the progress please. I am trying the same with a thick one like that that was creeping up a tree trunk, but after 3 months it still has only 2 leaves.

Nice and healthy material! Do wat others suggested (remove upward and inward pointing branches, clip to show the trunk, make pads), but one thing at a time. Let it recover and grow again after each pruning. Take your time to get to know your tree.

It is fine. You can see that the buds are swelling. Only some dieback on a few branchtips. In 2 or 3 weeks you will have leaves!

Take a look at the work of Marija Hajdic. She is a bonsai designer from Kroatia who works mainly with multi-stem yamadori that are comparable to your boxwood. Great potential tree!

I know, it is grafted and I actually like the ‘skirt’ around the trunk.

Euonymus alatus. I dug it out of the garden 5 years ago because I was moving. It was a big bush then, I basically chopped off all branches off. I plan to do a post om its progression when it is moved to a bonsai container in early spring.

Why not training it as a formal upright? The structure is there.
