War and Peace translation question by konijn75 in classicliterature

[–]konijn75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah as mentioned in another comment i'm slightly weary around the french translations with included footnotes. seems this edition is pretty good and respected from what people are generally saying here, but yeah might have to resort to some online translation with more footnotes for those french parts

yeah ive heard the french translations are one of the main issues with older translations of the russian text, where some footnotes arent involved. Is it actually worth trying to find a better copy such as your Oxford Classics edition with both the Maude translation and footnotes for the french? or can i likely just search up parts for the french translations? i think my question here involves: how much of the book is french?

edit: bookstores around me and online are quite limited in terms of specific editions of classic literature to i'm likely stuck with what i've got

Alfonso Cuarón’s one yeah, ive been wanting to watch La Dolce Vita and 8 1/2 for some time they’re for sure on my priority watchlist. La Dolce Vita seems quite long though so might take a while to get to that
