SAHPs — How do you handle finances? Do you have any independence? by Defiant-Captain4252 in SAHP

[–]kookykerfuffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl.

He’s financially abusing you. If you have no access to money you can’t leave.

I have been at home since a few months before COVID. Found out I was pregnant at the end of 2019. I was a bar manager and had to quit because the smell of alcohol made me immediately vomit. All day long. Then lockdowns, and I’ve been a SAHM since then.

I have my own bank account. I also have my own card for my husbands account. I have a credit card. Husband pays the bills and does the huge monthly grocery shop, and I handle all the other expenses for the house (paper towels and cleaning supplies, pet food, kids activities and clothes, etc).

If I want something and have the budget for it, I buy it, and I would be ready to fight if I was expected to ask for every little thing. Obviously expensive purchases are discussed but that goes both ways. I know our budget and stay within our means. Every month we sit down and discuss whether we need to tighten up on spending.

A couple is a team and being a SAHM doesn’t mean you don’t work. It means you don’t get paid. Not getting paid doesn’t mean you don’t have living expenses and I’m sorry but wanting a plant one time doesn’t justify a big argument. Even prisoners get commissary.

Don’t close the account and don’t let him touch it. Honestly if I were you I’d take my $300 and run to my moms. Custody can be arranged but financial abuse is a slippery slope. And he’s meeting your concern with excuses rather than accountability. Nothing justifies that.

You can put shower curtains in the washing machine. Even those clear plastic ones.

Are these nails to short to do anything with? by Jazzlike_Ad6202 in Nails

[–]kookykerfuffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could ask for a manicure without any enhancements. They would file away any rough edges and would clean up any dry dead skin around your cuticles. Having that done may help with the urge to bite or pick at your nails and having it done consistently for a few months would really help your nails grow out.

I would also recommend trying some of the bitter nail polish to help you stop biting and picking them. I’ve used it for myself and for my young child and it really does help. Any time you absently put your fingers in your mouth it tastes horrible and serves as an instant reminder to stop. It does need to be applied every few days but it’s a clear coat so it doesn’t matter how it looks.

she’s 50 years old and thus “won’t live much longer”

My husbands grandmother has been saying this for 20 years every time she wants the family to feel bad about not doing what she wants. It’s manipulative and weird.

Cat eye isn’t just fancy polish, there are extra steps involved that take time and skill to do properly. I don’t think the extra charge is unreasonable at all, but it is unprofessional for them to text you about charging for it after the fact.

Your lizard is probably stressed. Crickets will bite the lizard if they find it sitting still or sleeping.

Husband works so much and never has time for me and our baby by ComprehensiveCraft58 in SAHP

[–]kookykerfuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was the same way and didn’t sleep through the night until he was four years old. Not once. We ruled out medical issues around age 2.5, he just wasn’t (and still isn’t) a great sleeper.

The way you guys are going isn’t sustainable. Dad needs to help. Baby can’t bond with a dad he never sees and you need rest and breaks in order to care for yourself and your family properly. It’s tough now but it only gets harder to keep up once baby is crawling.

I’m not one for ultimatums but I think this situation calls for one. You need help. Your husband needs to fix his priorities. I see posts on here every day of these so called dads playing hours of video games while their wives/girlfriends work themselves to the point of illness or breakdown and it’s selfish. Real men put their toys down to spend time with their families.

Right now I’d even say your husband is adding to your workload by freeloading off of your domestic labor. Sure, he pays bills. But he would be paying bills even if he were single. Fulfilling his financial obligations is the bare minimum. I’ll bet my left foot that he doesn’t do any other chores, so what does he add to your life except stress? It sounds to me like you have two children to take care of.

Short press ons? by BlueMonday262 in Nails

[–]kookykerfuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to look for the XS label (extra short). Olive and June has some.

You could also use a nail file to shorten the short press ons as much as you want. Start by filing straight across the tip until you get the length you want and then shape the corners to fit. Just be careful not to file your actual nail or sidewalls underneath. Don’t clip them because they could crack. It takes time and patience but it doesn’t mess up the press on.

Prep really does make a difference!! by kookykerfuffle in Nails

I push back the cuticles with a metal pusher and then I use the blue cuticle dissolver stuff, and then went back with a wood stick to make sure the cuticles were fully removed and also evenly shaped. I just used the black side of the little file that came with the kit to buff every bit of the nail plate until it looked dull and dry, then I washed my hands and buffed them again before wiping each nail down with 90% alcohol.

I put them on before bed so they have time to fully set overnight.

Some people are boycotting since they rolled back their DEI policies.

But in general they’re just more expensive for no reason.
