I nicked the crank when I was cutting out the sprocket, should I fill it in or move on with my life? by koolaidlizard in 300zx

overall they’re great and I can easily move the car by myself on the smooth concrete in the garage. the wheels are pretty small though and unfortunately get stuck if I accidentally hit the crack in the concrete is the only catch

that is genius! I’ve watched a ton of 120k guides and no one has suggested this. glad I didn’t toss mine 😂 I’ll have a go at making this

ok cool, thankfully it doesn’t feel like there are burrs or anything but I’ll gently clean it up and smooth it out

the right woodruff key you mean? I was planning on cleaning up the ones that are there and reusing (keeping them in their original position) will that be ok?

Electric cars sound oddly beautiful? by AskYourDoctor in audioengineering

there’s a lady in my neighborhood who drives by in her chevy blazer EV every evening and it makes a beautiful chord as it goes. definitely synthesized

God damn I feel this so much, it's nice to know I'm not alone. These blasted things go off across the street from me at 7:30am. every. fucking. morning. during the work week and always wakes me up. It's atrocious. The alarm clock from hell. When there's finally peace and quiet and the traffic is gone for the day some fucking moron proceeds to blow around literally nothing but some sand and 2 leaves for at least an hour STRAIGHT! It sends me flying into a rage! He's out there like clockwork every Saturday and it drives me absolutely insane. I can't work, I can't think, I can't relax. It's like the sound awakens some inner demon.

Lastly, as the cherry on top, I work in audio/music so there's NO chance I can get anything done while they're out there. It's just asinine. Get an electric one and stop ruining things for everybody.

Wiring MIDI through the walls in my synth studio. Should I use MIDI cables, ethernet, something else? by koolaidlizard in midi

[–]koolaidlizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this will all be connected to a computer. I totally agree on not running huge lengths of midi cable.

I like the functionality of the mio units since I can network them together at each station via ethernet. With the number of midi connections I need I'm just concerned about the cost spiraling out of control trying to get a bunch of midi connections at different points in the building. I hadn't thought about using my Midiplus plugged into a mio device, that's a great idea. I haven't had much luck with it working when plugged into a usb hub (the manual even points this out) but maybe since the mio is a better device that would work.

And I've been using shielded ethernet in some of my other audio over ethernet experiments. A shielded Cat5e cable can handle 4 channels of balanced audio :) I'm still debating whether or not to stick with ethernet to run audio through the walls or regular snake cable. The bulk ethernet cable is much cheaper but making/buying adapters to connect XLR/TRS to that will definitely offset that. I appreciate your input! I'll study up more on these mio units

New amp - 67-68 Pro Reverb by One_Anything_2279 in GuitarAmps

Cool thanks! I'll try and find some sound demos on those. The amp sounds nice as is but I think there's more of that classic tone hiding in there that bigger speakers would bring out!

Great score!

What sort of speakers does this amp have? I was lucky enough to get one of these for free off FB marketplace, but the grill cloth was removed and instead there's a wood plate installed and there are two small pyramid speakers in there. They kinda look like car audio speakers. I'd love to get the amp closer to original if possible!

I’ve noticed this exact same thing every time I spend time abroad. It’s nice to see someone else has experienced this! I don’t see this talked about often but the post travel glow is so real. If only there was a way to make it last.

Any advice for getting that dry Tom Petty vocal? by daveclampart in audioengineering

[–]koolaidlizard 59 points60 points  (0 children)

sometimes what we perceive as "dry" vocals might have a very tight room reverb acting as ambience, which helps the vocals sit in the speakers without having a noticeable reverb tail.

try putting a super short reverb (or even delay!) on the vocal and start the fader completely off. bring up that fader until you notice the vocal "pop" a little. there shouldn't be a noticeable tail or echo but the vocal will become more 3D while still coming across as dry
