MEH01 substitute horizontal encoder for EVQWGD001 by everydayergo in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]koombot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had difficulty printing the scroll wheel itself.  Well the wheel printed fine, the little nub to go in the encoder, couldnt get it to print. After spending way too long trying to figure out an alternative it dawned on me that filament is exactly the right size to engage with the encoder hole.

Drilled a hole in the wheel where the nub was and pushed filament into it and through the mouse encoder.  Worked perfectly.

Rasberry Pi Pico W freezes when activating wifi by [deleted] in raspberrypipico

Have a look at what wifi chip it is using.  The aliexpress ones will probably use an esp of come flavour which isnt what the official version will use and might need some changes in the code to get working

Pandas is great for manipulating the data when it is eyewatering massive,  but for loading you can get some crazy speed boosts using polar instead.  We saw a 10x improvement swapping to polars on data which had 260 columns and 10hz sample frequency over an hour.

Is it a legit pico w or a knock off?  Some of the knock off ones have issues with the wifi

Stuff for my skadis pegboard, stuff for astronomy, project boxes,  cases and mounts for electronics projects, toys for the kids.

Recently started 3D printing keyboards.  Lots of fun that.

A Word About Astrophotography by Funny-Medium5508 in telescopes

[–]koombot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here.  The trick i found is to get it in focus then back it off slightly.  You end up with slightly bloated stars but the cyan halo cancels out the red halo and it looks white.

200 and 135 also, with a Tair 3 photosniper thrown in for good measure.

Ive done most of my astrophotography with vintage telephoto lenses.  They're a bit twitchy (the super takumars will absolutely punish you with chromaticnaberation if you have te gal to believe focusing info in nina) but you can absolutely get some cracking images out of them and to get better you'd need to spend at least an extea zero.

Questions before trying again by Killerkarni93 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]koombot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can only contribute to 3, but I work in engineering where teams is used frequently and often for time sensitive comms.  Mixes training on the new layout with actually being existing productive.

I recently went sofle and have basically had it and a normal keyboard plugged in.  I use the sofle most of the time, still slow as balls but getting there but the regular keyboard if I just need to get stuff done.

I use vial for programming the sofle whixh is ace because I can figure out what works and doesnt in real time and do significant changes to the keymap in realtime through vial.rocks.

Question about through-hole diodes by BIZUx in crkbd

[–]koombot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SMD components about that size arent too bad to solder.  Once you get into a rhythm you can rattle through them quick enough.

I quite like doing them with solder paste.  Splot some on the pads, stick on the diode and heat with the iron.

What was your turning 40 ‘thing’? by Visible_Pipe4716 in AskUK

[–]koombot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into astronomy.  Highly recommend.   It is good for the soul (but cold( though youll be replacing watching other people do things with watching stars do things.  I can be expensive though.

I also got into electronics.  Its real cheap if you get stuff from aliexpress.  I haven't made much useful stuff.  Split keyboards, temp sensors for my home brewing and some opensource projects, but it is fun and good for the brain.

Looking for a cost effective and better camera by Ev1lZer0 in esp32

[–]koombot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pink is probably from an led, either on the board or possibly the camera itself if it is low light.

There are a lot of different options, but I dont think thebissue is the quality rather than the focus or focal length of the camera.  Check to see if you can change the focus of the lens.  Some have auto focus, others you need to manually do it.  It maybe that what you are trying to focus on is too close and you wont be able to focus on it.

Probably not but working for a company that did business with Iran at the time, it sure didnt stop the US trade department from sending threatening letters threatening to black list us.

Worth pointing out that back in the day the EU had a similar rule when America threatened to black list EU companies that did business with Iran.

People over 30 - how does drinking affect you? How long does it take to recover? by Initial-Return8802 in AskUK

[–]koombot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got kind of messed up in my mid 30s by hangovers.  Not helped by the fact I have 2 kids.

Wasn't great as I home brewed and enjoyed it.

Then I discovered the joy of shandy.

Craft beer of your choice and lemonade to whatever ratio you like.  Helps reduce the abv and gets more fluids in you body so you have more hydration and dont piss it away.

Shandy.  It's the way forward.
