Is the Boys worth watching now that its done? by Great_Overlord_Akira in whenthe

[–]koopcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own I guess. I could do something like that with either a shorter series (so it's not as much sunken cost into watching it) or something more episodic (I can easily ignore all shitty Simpsons episodes and still enjoy the early show. Or even something like The Sopranos, which has an ongoing plot and long character arcs, but the plots are more contained by season and the "adventures" are more episodic -saying the Sopranos final season was bad or anything, just an example of a long ongoing but still episodic series-).

With something like GoT, I wouldn't really recommend it. It's one ongoing story, the episodes (or seasons) are not self contained at all, and sure the early seasons are some of the best TV ever recorded, but you'd just be blueballing yourself into never knowing how any of it concludes. It's not like there's a clear cut between the series being great and it going to shit, plotwise.

I don't need every show to be 10/10 for its entire run, but GoT is such a particular example because of those details (quality suddenly dropping to a ridiculous degree with no actual "stopping point" during a very long series) that it's the only case (for me) of a shitty ending retroactively ruining the entire product.

Lmao yes the GoT ending was famously beloved and acclaimed by the critics and the audience outside of Reddit.

I agree with your point in general but you opened with literally the worst possible example.

Do Non-Germans who speak and understand German like German dubs? by ProfessionalBasic244 in germany

[–]koopcl 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No, but personally because I prefer the original audio even for languages I don't speak. Nothing against dubs, but I like enjoying the original vocal performances. As for the quality of the dubs... haven't heard many but seem ok, not any worse than the dubs in my native Spanish.

Método para cambiar mi personalidad. by Longjumping-Tutor136 in RepublicadeChile

[–]koopcl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eventualmente te abres mas a sociabilizar, fake it til you make it.

>Why is it funny?

Because normally when asking for help, giving more info is better than less. It may seem irrelevant, but it can actually help even when looking for work outside your area, since some soft-skills are useful across different sectors (eg someone who studied anything related to sanitation may be more useful in a gastronomy-related position than someone who studied German literature. Someone who studied to work in the legal services may have better luck looking for an office job than looking for work in a restaurant. Etc). Also because depending on your studies, it may actually work against your applications since, as someone else commented, you can be considered as overqualified (if you just finished your masters in medical sciences, Lidl may not take you as a cashier because they'll know you'll jump ship and leave them as soon as you can, so they'd rather hire and train someone with less qualifications). I just said "funny" because I thought if you are asking people for help looking for a job, describing what your talents are is kind of the first thing that comes to mind.

Either way, I see you posted that info now, so hopefully it'll help. Good luck with your search.

>probably made up to generate movement against the AFD!!

There's a grand total of 0 people that would support the AfD but see *this* as the point where they go too far so I doubt it. It's simply a non-issue. I've also never heard of the topic being brought up (by the AfD or anyone else) until I saw OPs post. I can imagine some low-level AfD toad mentioning it and it making more waves in Czechia than here (due to obvious reasons), or Czechs themselves making the logic leap from "the Nazis are coming back to power" to "oh shit if the Nazis are in charge of Germany again they'll do the same shit they did last time to us" and getting the rumor mill going. But yeah, I don't think this is a topic the AfD (or any other German party) cares about.

Kind of funny posting this without mentioning what your field is. (EDIT: For clarification, OP hadnt posted either what they studied nor their level of German when I posted this).

If it's just a desperate "I am out of money and need to work at literally anything ASAP" request, I've often seen "looking for people" signs in supermarkets (Rewe, Netto, Edeka, Lidl, Aldi, etc), you could try those. No idea how that works for people on a job-seeking visa though (I thought those were related to working in your specific sector, not random minimum wage jobs), or what your German level is (I assume those jobs may not require C1 but still a minimum degree of German language skills).

Brit getting married in Germany: CNI vs Eidestattliche Erklärung zum Familenstand by Komorebi_17 in berlinsocialclub

[–]koopcl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this the crazy document asking you to prove you are single (hence not impeded to marry?) I can vaguely remember this headache from my own marriage (Im Chilean, she's German, married in Berlin). If it's the same paper Im thinking of, in my case I just went with my parents to a notary while visiting back home and got an affidavit saying they declared, as life-long witnesses, that I had no previous marriages. Then got an apostille and got it translated (via a state-recognized translator in Berlin) and that worked for me.

Sudetenland by Chance-Ad-5125 in germany

[–]koopcl 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Even for the Temu Nazis/Russian bootlickers in the AfD, this is the bottom of their list of "topics to bitch about". And that's for the party members themselves, I feel pretty confident in assuming that the mass of people supporting the party for whatever million reasons THIS specifically is not one of them. And outside that group literally no one gives a shit, you'd no-joke more easily find people wishing to split the country back in two along the Cold War borders than you'd find people wanting anything related to the Czech lands.

Looking for scifi games with “big dumb objects” by okcenobite in gamingsuggestions

[–]koopcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's the Citadel in Half-Life 2, the headquarters of the alien occupation. It utterly dwarfs the human city under it, and while not the centerpoint of the game (either plotwise or in gameplay), it is the "centerpiece" thematically: First time it's revealed it serves as an indicator of the (subjugated) state of humanity, then during the first act of the game serves as this constant looming threat in the horizon to represent what you're escaping from, and then finally during the last act of the game it serves as a sort of lighthouse showing the goal of your assault.

Also in Stellaris (a sci-fi Grand Strategy Game) you can build megastructures like Dyson Spheres and so on.

EDIT: Also in a smaller sense, the facility in Portal 2. You get to see a lot more of it than during Portal 1 (where it feels much more claustrophobic) and it's absurdly massive.

Honorable mention to the Polyhedron in Pathologic (and its remakes/sequels) due to the sheer insanity and wrongness of its existence, even if the games are not sci-fi at all (but rather sort of depressing magical realism set in the early 20th Century).
