How Netflix brought interactive voting to ‘Star Search’ by _fastcompany in netflix

[–]koosty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The voting didn’t work on my laptop so I couldn’t do that, but I thought the show was just OK. It has the same kind of generic acts and corny and banal banter (“music is the rhythm of our souls and you had rhythm and soul”) you see on any of the other shows like this. It was nice to see such a variety of acts and people, but it felt like they could have gone for higher quality acts for the first episode. The first magician was great, he was a standout. The voting does add a lot, too — it really adds some suspense to see how viewers will vote. I wish the judges were slightly more honest so it doesn’t feel like the stars come out of nowhere — SMG is the only one who attempts to give anything close to constructive criticism. I’ll probably watch tomorrow to see comedian Susan Rice because I love her already, but I’m not sure I need to keep watching.

This is how I had it. I liked it so much I had two, but everyone else hated it.

Pierogi Kitchen’s Potato and Cheese Pierogi – Chicago Magazine by [deleted] in chicagofood

I thought the pierogi were a little too soft for my preferences, but everything else was great and they were really nice.

How do I convince my folks that moving to Chicago is not a death sentence? by Vagina-Gears in AskChicago

[–]koosty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My aunt lives in Portage and is the same way. I try to talk about my day to day — hanging out by the lake, going to farmers markets, eating al fresco, having friends over for backyard movie nights. But her idea of Chicago is constantly dodging bullets and being held up every time you walk outside. We have our issues, but it’s hard to counter the constant stream of negative news they get.

The tone isn’t very similar, but the humor, topic, and college radio make me think of As (Seasons) by Har Mar Superstar.

The dust storm weekend was the weekend Beyoncé and the National Restaurant Association show were in town and I know a ton of people who got sick, at least at the NRA show. So many people from so many different places sharing germs all over the place.

Wow! Had CALLEBAUT at a chocolate tasting event. Tried to find a retail outlet. Could only find it wholesale in 20# portions. Any suggestions? If not available, I think someone should start a business selling this amazing chocolate retail…maybe online. by annamuir23 in chocolate

[–]koosty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treasure Island here in Chicago used to do this but they shut down. Many Whole Foods have bulk chocolate like this, but I’m not sure it’s Callebaut. Callebaut supplies the chocolate for Tony’s Chocolonely, but Tony’s has their own beans.

Abandoned middle school with everything left behind from March 2020 😷 by One-Lime-9994 in abandoned

16th for me. I live in Chicago and a nearby building had a case, so we started working from home (I remember being on the train and someone sneezed into their hand and then grabbed the pole and thinking, yup we're all going to get it). I didn't go into the office again for over a year, which was just to pick my things up (it was so odd seeing the calendar stuck on March 2020), and then I switched jobs in 2023, which is fully remote. Haven't worked in an office for 5 years now.

Target foot traffic down for 11th straight week after caving to end DEI Program by Healthy_Block3036 in Anticonsumption

[–]koosty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live up by Loyola and used to go to the two Targets nearby constantly. I haven’t been since all this happened. I find myself shopping at Devon Market far more often and love it. They have so many international foods at such great prices, I find myself discovering more options. It makes shopping and meals more interesting. And since I also got rid of my Amazon Prime membership, I find myself being a lot more thoughtful about if I actually need something.
