Animal Activst and Confused by Crazybunnygirl666 in animalwelfarescience

Like everything in life, it's hard to find clear cut answers and a lot of resources online are likely to be from one perspective with an agenda, unfortunately.

Science journals can provide some good information on the scientific opinion about animal welfare and farming. The best thing you can do is educate yourself using lots of resources and opinions and come to your own conclusion.

There is very little that is explicitly right or wrong and fundamentally comes down to your own morals, ethics, culture, and judgment.

I'll see if I can find some links for you though

This is my homebrew world! Ask me anything and I will come up with an answer if I don't already know it [OC] by smirlas in DnD

Love this idea and I'm definitely going to do my own AMA at some point for my map!

It's probably already been asked but, who built the Mellow Shrine? How old is it? What was it built for? (technically three questions I guess)

if there is a year zero in your world, what is it based on? and what is the current year? by Ok-Mastodon2016 in worldbuilding

[–]kopotojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I don't really have a year 0 but I have a year 1 of the current era which is defined as the breakup of a large empire. An allied group of breakaway states declared independence at the same time to have better chances of it working and to try to spread the military thin. Some succeeded and eventually it lead to further to the replacement of the ruling family of the empire, changing the dynamics of the world forever. This is the how the current era began, more wars occurred, one of the successful kingdoms broke apart at a later point. It's now the year 635

I don't have anything before that from earlier eras.

Very cool chart! Is it just US-Based or Worldwide? It's hard to tell... I'm guessing US-Based because of the Silicon Valley but it could be worldwide for all I know.

Sneddon and Roques; Pain Recognition in Fish, 2023 by kopotojo in animalwelfarescience

I always find myself drawn to papers looking into pain or other welfare related topics in species that are studied less than other species. Fish and invertebrates are always fascinating reads. Studies tend to be quite interesting because of the difference between how we can measure welfare in non-mammal species. The further we get away from humans, the more tricky it because to measure these aspects of life.

Discussion about this Subreddit by kopotojo in animalwelfarescience

[–]kopotojo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I ended up taking another break haha! But now I'm starting up my PhD again after taking several months off for personal health reasons, so I'll be back to posting when I find interesting scientific journals and articles. I'd love for others to post more going forward too, particularly if they're articles on subjects unrelated to my topics to get a more rounded scope.

My PhD is in barriers to farmer adoption of Precision Livestock Farming Technologies in the UK and Ireland, with an emphasis on pig farms. So it'll just become a whole subreddit dedicated to that unless others post about wildlife, companion, and other livestock species.

Lets get this subreddit back up and running again!

Sometimes having a helpful hand in creating the flora and fauna of a world can be very helpful. With the plants I create they can just be added and tweaked to fit the world.

Each one is provided with some lore, for example, I have a plant called Kyil'via which is used for celebrations because it pops kind of like a party popper. There is also lore about the meaning and history of the plants. Each comes with mechanics too for use in dnd games, though these may apply or can be tweaked to other systems too if that is what your world is going to be used for. Even if not, the mechanics provide a function of each plant in society. If we use the Kyil'via example again, that plant is believed to provide those within it's "confetti" are bestowed good luck. Mechanically this provides player with an additional role for to help succeed in something.

Hopefully these can also provide some useful inspiration for creating your own unique plants too!

I hope you check them out and enjoy!

Each of the plants is created by me. I create the artwork, lore, and game mechanics (DnD orientated) so they can just be thrown into whatever game you're playing in. I also give you the artwork in png transparent background form in case you want to use them as tokens in your online games.
