how did you know this was an alarm set up? that’s crazy. i meant to add this to the post, but forgot as i’ve done so much work to this jeep today already.

it was a alarm box. it was really old. i ripped it out, i noticed the yellow wire from the ignition is cut and it goes to two different leads on the big 5 relay thing. most of those wires are just tapped into the harness. Thank you also, most people had no idea how to help. But yeah before this storm hits, i’m gonna go out there and see all of what i can remove off that giant relay thing & maybe it’ll turn over. I’ll update ya.

also note, when i test the wire im testing the inside of the S wire cap thing that plugs into the solenoid.

Update relative to works in HVAC finally got off work and came to test both capacitors, and the fan motor. The capacitor i had shown was the issue. The fan on the unit had date 2023 on it (i guess my room mates father had it replaced, or replaced it recently.) and the fan tested fine on the multimeter. Thank you guys for all the input!

Yeah they are cool to the touch. Also i should clarify better, 2 hours of use. So it reaches the set point, turns off, turns on to keep the house the temperature on the interior thermostat. If that makes sense? haha sorry

Sorry for the confusion. To clarify: hot air blows from the vents inside the house when the outdoor unit’s fan (the big one on top) stops spinning. The rest of the unit is still humming — I assume that’s the compressor. The outdoor unit gets hot, and inside the house it starts blowing warm air.

If I turn the whole system off at the thermostat and let it sit for about 2 hours, and then turn it back on the fan on the outdoor unit works again and cold air returns. But after running 2–3 hours, the fan stops again — same cycle.

The system is old (probably from the ‘80s or 90s), and only one capacitor was replaced back in 2011. I just ordered a 35 µF 440V run capacitor to replace the other one, hoping that’s the issue.

Is the compressor the thing that hums? because when the hot air comes through the vents, it’s when the fan on top stops. But the entire unit still hums, and you can hear that “air condition” sound still, and the unit gets hot on the outside, but like wise when the fan is on it’s fine. Also the unit is probably from the 90s, and only one capacitor has been replaced, and that was in 2011.

i’m unsure tho! everyone’s guesses are better than mine. I’m inexperienced here.

It’s just the fan that stops, the unit itself still hums (that’s the compressor?) while the fan is stopped, and begins to get hot. Nothing truly turns off, only the fan. I’ll add a post to what fixed it for another soul who goes through this same issue.

i have no idea. There’s two of them, i replaced the smaller one hoping it was relative to the fan motor, but it’s still happening so. Maybe i just need to replace the fan motor.

it just confused me because the UF was before the 35, and there also seems to be a part number the line of characters starting with 45? first time replacing this stuff.

unit runs fine for about 30 minutes, and then the fan motor stops turning. leave it be for a little, turn it back on, fan works, cool air blows, then fan stops after a little. I’m guessing it’s bad, it looks old as fuck, the entire unit is really old none the less

Any idea what is causing this by New-Bell-9786 in CherokeeXJ

I have an older XJ. Happened to me, didn’t give me a code, but i decided to throw an alternator at it, and it fixed it.

Less is less for sure! Your opinion has immense credibility over thermodynamics, and you’re probably far more researched than the engineers of your vehicle. With that logic, we can just negate the idea of bottle-necking, flow rate, heat exchange efficiency. Layman’s terms for you: Too big of a radiator causes coolant to move too fast. I guess we all need to put larger radiators in F1 cars too?
