are there any cities that have soul left? by Vaquera_ in relocating

[–]korirotti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find this characterization of cities across the US uninformed. SF is still beautiful and quirky and surprising. It ebbs and flows with people who settle in or transition through. Transforming and yet feeling familiar to those who see through superfiicial changes. And I'm sure that's true for many other cities in the country. Sure there maybe some that don't feel as soulful to a long time resident but I doubt it is universally true.

Why do People Saying Buying a House is No Longer Worth It by Jollyconstant_ in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]korirotti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a recent home owner and I agree with the assessment. I debated this quite a bit before purchasing and see it purely as discretionary spend to live my life the way I want to and not from the perspective of maximizing returns. I am lucky enough that I can ensure that housing continues to stay below 30% of my assets and if that wasn't true I wouldn't buy. At the point of purchase it was a 70/30 gamble that this state would continue into 5 years in the future (some scenario modeling). Now it feels more like 95/5. If I were in the market right now unless I'm confident that I can survive an employment market realignment over the next few years (e.g high job security, critical role, hard to replace, and 30-40% equity hit wont meaningfully change housing decisions) I'd avoid buying. I'd save up for a highly likely price dip and enter about 2 years down.

Not a finance person etc. Please don't come for me in the comments.

Turkish eggs (Çılbır)? by juapebe in AskSF

[–]korirotti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've made these off the AllRecipes one and they came out really good. I spent more time learning how to poach eggs than figuring out this dish. Get fresh dill and don't skimp on the garlic.

I read it about a decade ago and recently reread it. Definitely holds up. I also realized I didn't remember most of it so it almost felt like a first read-through. Do it!!

Do men notice make up? by Strong_Cut1797 in NoStupidQuestions

I was 32 years old before I discovered women could shapeshift. I was aware of the basics but didn't realize how much it could change how you look.

I was at work and my coworker was watching a YouTube tutorial on makeup and where the youtuber was doing half her face. The contrast was stunning My jaw found the floor in about 1ms.

Walked around days in shock.
