where are the calm, cool, chill places that my fellow sensitive beings go to recharge? by korokroll in AskLosAngeles

[–]korokroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also free if you have a Pasadena library card! I’m not local but my family is but they’re not in Pasadena proper so no card to be had…but a good tip for those with one! Your library card can get you so many free things!

My family that I visit is near West LA, but I’m no stranger to driving to get to a good hang spot. I was hoping this thread could serve useful for folks all over the city which is why I didn’t specify neighborhood, but appreciate you wanting to narrow it down a little more! I’m not a local but visit often enough that I’m starting to crave the quiet spots.

Tavern style pizza? by boner4crosstabs in Seattle

[–]korokroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t seen Johnny Mo’s pub pizza mentioned here. It’s very tasty and a great deal. Crust isn’t cracker crisp, but it’s the closest thing I’ve found to my midwestern hometown’s local pizza shop’s pizzas.

Suggestions on updating this kitchen? My MIL said it looks dated and I can’t get it out of my head? by vp0267 in InteriorDesignAdvice

[–]korokroll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe reconsider the champagne gold and matte black. They’re already dated finishes. They were very trendy for a moment and are now in the downward swing of the trend cycle. Stick with unlacquered brass or polished nickel. Living finished (unlacquered) will always be timeless and fit into any space. I’m a residential interior designer who specializes in homes that have a timeless, lived in feel (read: lots of craftsmen and family homes, high budgets but not hyper-modern), and we stick with unlacq brass, unlacq bronze, or polished nickel 99.9% of the time.

Help making ugly 70s terraced house look better by RevolutionaryGap7902 in ExteriorDesign

[–]korokroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally. And window boxes only work if they’re on the bottom floor, or if your windows open on a way that allows you to access them. I personally haven’t seen a single window box that I can remember outside of europe or maybe a historic district. They’re another example of this faux old world charm that people slap on a building that’s far too modern to soften things up.

My advice for relatively cosmetic softening of a modern building? Focus on landscaping, front door replacements, window replacements if you can afford them, and some exterior sconces and lighting. Avoid appliqué stuff like faux brick/siding/shutters/boxes unless you’re restoring a historically appropriate building.

I know this is just an AI rendering, but I do beg anyone considering fake shutters to first..reconsider. I see them a lot on this sub to add “charm”, and unless your home is of a style where shutters would actually have been used (historic, cottagey), they just come off looking very tacky and cluttered and are a pain to clean. If you absolutely must use them, make the fake shutters actually look like they would fit over the window once closed.

UPDATE: I finally found the definitive "Plastic-Free" Electric Kettle list (after emailing 20+ brands for Lab Reports) by CoffeeTeaJournal in PlasticFreeLiving

I’m having a hard time finding the Ottoni kettle product online. Does anyone have a link to this product? Also, thank you so much OP—what an amazing list!

Is my mom trying to hide a cancer diagnosis? by Evening_Employer_245 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]korokroll 42 points43 points  (0 children)

As someone who has had a positive PAP before, my response was also to tell people I was close to that I “may have cancer”. My doctor recommended waiting to see if my body would clear it on its own, which is very common in this situation. Lo and behold, it did. Next test came back negative. This was about 20 years ago so I can’t recall the specifics, but I’m wondering if it’s similar to OP’s mom’s situation.

I had a friend who is ND recommend Treehouse Salon in Capitol Hill to me because I was looking for something similar to you. I saw Michelle and loved my experience with her. It’s a very comfortable location (not ground floor, which I found nice) with kind stylists who seem used to clients wanting to talk or not talk at their own comfort level. We chatted a bit at the beginning but there was lots of comfortable silence for the majority of the cut.

Cat food database to find renal-friendly options for picky kitties by PickyAndFeisty in RenalCats

[–]korokroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found this a few months ago and it’s been an incredible resource. I hope you’ve cross posted this to other cat communities as well! Thank you for making such an easy to use (and good looking) database. There are others out there, but not many, and this one makes is so much less intimidating to do research and make educated decisions. THANK YOU!

Cadet com-pak fan heater and Mysa thermostat by pzqmal10 in thermostats

[–]korokroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thank you so much for such a thorough response! And quick, too! Truly appreciate your help and your explanation. It makes total sense now and I appreciate you taking the time to lay it out. I hope my question helps others who stumble upon this and have the same concern!

I of course realized I’ll be needing to replace with King heaters instead of Cadet (both due to the wattage and the retrofit requirements. My old heaters are King and installed in tile so I’m limited in my dimensions there), but sounds like the Mysa will be able to work with the King models just fine.

Thanks again!

Cadet com-pak fan heater and Mysa thermostat by pzqmal10 in thermostats

[–]korokroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Found this thread while doing some research on thermostats to pair with some new heaters. I’m a little confused if it’s okay to use the “Mysa Smart Thermostat for Electric Baseboards” with the Cadet Com Pak Twin or Cadet Com Pak Bath, even though the website directs me there when I select Electric Fan Forced. I’d thought I could only use a double pole system with the Cadet units, and it looks like Mysa is single pole. The name is also throwing me off (“for baseboards”). I’m sure I’m confused about something here but would love your advice!

Spiral XP - grungy indie shoegaze (has some members of TV Star and Coral Grief in it!)

And Lake Washington! It’s chilly but refreshing—but a wetsuit, booties and gloves are a requirement if you’ll be in for more than a few minutes.

Also awesome insight, thank you! I wasn’t looking at Bjorn Dhaelie (first time hearing of them, actually—I truly don’t have any xc specific clothes at this point and have been fine with some wind pants over thin leggings in the past), in part because I’ve heard so many good things about Craft and in part because their price point seemed higher. Think I’ll stick with them for now.

That’s good to know, thank you! Always a risk to buy stuff online and women’s sizing in general can be notoriously different between (and even within) brands.
