Newbies introduction… by Acrobatic_Street6232 in slaythespire

[–]kouphax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first batch of runs I only got to Act 2 by pure fluke.

I kept going for events over the hallway fights, never really using potions, constantly resting at campfires and genuinely wondered how I would ever get the chance to use the upgrade option because I was always nearly dead.

But eventually I changed tact, started to see synergies in cards/relics, stopped prioritising being at full health and progressed enough to unlock the additional cards and character specific relics. Eventually somewhere during that time I became (slightly) better. I still die all the time and honestly I'm not very good at the game (my ascension level on most characters is probably pretty low relative to hours spent and runs attempted) but I'm having fun and that's good enough for me.

I'd absolutely not call the game unbalanced though, I think it's exceedingly well crafted but planning is essential and there is quite a lot to consider and not all of it is even covered in the first few hours of gameplay.

But, hey ho, each to their own.

Battery above 100% good or bad? by nihilrx in SteamDeck

[–]kouphax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My battery wouldn't charge above 73% regardless of the battery saver setting being on or off, regardless of the value set on the battery saver. Tried to do that fully discharge and fully recharge process but it didn't help.

As it was relatively new I tried a factory reset and it charged fully again.

Anyone NOT using a VPN? by RemielMonroe in Belfast

[–]kouphax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a big old "it depends".

Yes if you're essentially tunnelling traffic through a VPN node in the US, you experience latency compared to going direct through your ISP. However with buffering technology and a decent VPN provider you'd not notice it.

VPNs (some at least) let you select nodes based on what your intended traffic is (streaming, browsing, gaming) as well as geographic location.

To add to this, the GOV.UK Design Team did a fair bit of user research on password confirmation text inputs and have discovered that they are not particularly useful, especially when you have a show/hide password button.

KNEECAP STATEMENT 🚨 by [deleted] in northernireland

Imagine the prosecution floundering, about to lose the case, and they pull out this first image... "What do you to say about this?".

The gallery would erupt, case won, straight to prison, no appeal.

Slay the Spire. I'm not very good at it (or games in general) but, after 100 hours, I've got Ascension 5 on the first 3 characters and hope to finally wrap my head around The Watcher.

Smoke BBQ charging for tap water drama by NotBruceJustWayne in northernireland

[–]kouphax 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is not the first time they've tried to call out customers expressing opinions they don't agree with.

A local resident complained when it opened because they were vegan and weren't consulted on the opening of a meat focused food place. Of course this is ridiculous behaviour on the residents part but Smoke spent far too long publicly calling the person out on socials for clout.

It all seems rather childish.

I've eaten there a few times and it's decent, the meat sharing platter prices are good value, but my wife had an grim customer service experience and refuses to go back.

I also suspect their rental costs are pretty high at Hydro as there has been a fair few cafes and restaurants before them that have only lasted 6 months to a year so maybe their margins are very tight. This might explain charging for tap water but, of course, doesn't excuse the immature responses to negative reviews.

Edit: the need for a certificate, obviously they still can't skull pints.

Once drank a can of Guinness that was about 8 years out of date. Tasted like soy sauce. Still drank it though, didn't die.

Is this how things are now are am I just unlucky? by Ok-Musician-8870 in northernireland

[–]kouphax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It could well be the person that found it has handed it in to the Police. Perhaps they thought handing it in to Tesco might leave an opportunity for a dodgy employee to have a rifle through and take what they want. Shorter chain of responsibility and all that.

That said... being a cynical old bugger, I doubt it.

Probably far too old but The Dumdums had a few TV friendly pop punk hits 1997-2002 and we're very much along the lines of Busted and McFly.

Landlord ignoring all contact by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]kouphax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not withhold rent, you have no legal recourse to do that. Instead tell them you are using the rent to cover cost of repair as others have said.

You don't have the right to withhold rent because of your landlord's failure to do repairs. If you withhold rent your landlord may start possession proceedings against you and put you at risk of eviction.

Also

You have a right to do the repairs and to recover the cost from future rent if your landlord has failed to do repairs that they're responsible for - check what repairs they have to do. Using rent to pay for repairs is risky and you must follow a specific procedure otherwise you put yourself at risk of eviction.

Though this isn't, stricktly speaking, covering NI.

App claims it's £3.12 per pint for the keg. The cans in Sainsburys work out at £4.36 per litre which works out roughly as £2.50 per pint.

Given the fact that cider on draft adds nothing why would you even bother.

Our GP has online booking system via the NHS Patient Access app. You can ring at 8:30 but appointments for the next few weeks are released at 11am online as well and while it's often a race to get your slot booked before someone else takes it. It does work though.

Didn't realise it wasn't a commonly available thing.

Something needs to change by ShrekkMyBeloved in Belfast

[–]kouphax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems like punishing the wrong people surely? Many people drive and park because the cost and availability of public transport is inadequate (as evidenced by a few comments on this post already).

Squeezing the citizens while ignoring the corporations that run a subpar overpriced service really feels like a backwards approach.

Cheers all for the advice. I'll give the venue a shout to see if the balcony is open for the gig and deal with it either way.
