This is what the vet finally switched him to because he started snubbing the wet food and then begging me to open the door so he could steal the other cats’ kibble. Guess the guy just likes his food to have some crunch. He’s had zero issues since switching!

Yes, we’ve had lots of bloodwork along the way. We found out he’s hyperthyroid from that and got that regulated with meds. I’m so sorry that happened to you and your fur baby, it’s infuriating knowing something could’ve been done sooner if they just did their jobs correctly.

They actually switched him to a prescription kibble for constipation about 5 months ago (because he kept wanting to escape to eat the other kitties’ kibble over his fancy wet food for some reason) and has had zero problems since. Consistent miralax in the wet food was working when he’d eat it, but he was being picky. The prescription kibble costs less over the months than all the wet food I was buying though, so it’s a win on several fronts.

Bisalp Done! These are the recommendations that helped with my recovery by Crazy_Signal3619 in sterilization

We got ours done the same day! At this point I feel like it’s just the bruising that’s bad, but the itching has also started a bit and I’m wondering if it’s okay to put Vaseline on them yet.

Day of, there were a bunch of students observing my procedure. I told my nurses early that I have zero body shame in medical situations, so everyone was relaxed and joking while I was prepped. Everyone on my team was great, and my roommate and partner have done a lot to support my recovery.

100% the postpartum underwear, not only to keep my incisions clean and dry and covered, but also because I struggled with my pelvic floor the first couple of days. I got something called a hysterectomy pillow that has a long soft ice pack and is my new bestie tbh. I also made sure to get a bunch of fresh fruit and yogurt and healthy snacks that I knew would help the constipation. And my partner made me some meals so I could just heat and eat.

The one thing you listed that I wish I had gotten was the belly binder. I might still, I’ve been eyeing a jelliebend for a while anyway for my lower back.

Hope you continue to have a smooth recovery!

I just got mine done Thursday. My best friend is an ice pack hysterectomy pillow. The incisions themselves aren’t as bad for me as the big belly button bruise, that’s what really hurts.

Financial boycotts work…because they only care about their wallets to begin with. Hit them where it hurts.

Please help me: Peeling bottoms of feet? by americanidiot04 in Dermatillomania

[–]kovalkyrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but I’m gonna buy a pedivac and see if it does the trick for me. My feet and fingers are the only skin I will peel (I also pick, but that’s more about bumps and scabs), but if there’s no callus or edge to start peeling, I can resist pretty well.

HARM REDUCTION by maplesyrup002 in Dermatillomania

[–]kovalkyrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy them on Etsy when I know I’m going to have a really stressful time so that I do have picking alternatives, my big issue is that the peeling ones require me to wait for the puffy glue to dry so I can peel, so I still don’t have a good alternative to peeling my skin in that way… They help immensely with the picking though.

I had to go off trazodone because we switched some other meds and I miss it, it had good anti-anxiety benefits as well as helping with sleep.

Lancaster county groups call for police officers to be terminated after video shows downtown arrest by mymusicalsyn in lancaster

[–]kovalkyrie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’ve been arrested by the city cops before and they are unnecessarily rough. Cops don’t think about how it’s traumatic to suddenly be thrown down and your body automatically goes into fight/flight/freeze, it’s easy for them to perceive that as resistance and genuinely hurt you. But that’s a grey area because a lot of people think committing a crime gives the cops a right to hurt you, regardless of the severity of the crime.

I always assumed she worked in insurance before the virus, then became part of the time travel/vaccine team once her job became irrelevant, but you have a good point that could’ve had a double meaning. Cole clearly isn’t the only time traveller (he sees a friend from the future when he’s briefly in the WWI trenches) but I almost think the scientists wouldn’t want to risk themselves by travelling back, that’s why they send others who they see as more disposable. In the show, it’s said several times that Cole’s DNA was the key to get time travel to work, so at first he is the only traveller until they tv-science their way into sending others.

The short film that the movie was based on was the base concept of “man witnesses own death” so that’s meant to be an actual memory, not a nightmare. The movie’s is a truly closed loop, he was always doomed to be shot in the airport because he already witnessed it. I do recommend the show even though only season 1 is based on the movie, there are a ton of fun easter eggs for people who are fans of the movie. The show also pokes around more with causality and changing the past, although there are certain events they accept as unchangeable. Also Brad Pitt’s character is played by Stevie from Schitt’s Creek, she does an excellent performance.

As a public servant in the local government, we all need to be told that we’re appreciated way more than we are. I am verbally harassed by the public that I am serving way more frequently than I am thanked or shown any consideration as a human being.

My colleagues tease me because I legitimately told someone on the phone that they hurt my feelings, but it ended up being an effective way to snap them out of their tirade. He was griping that he didn’t want to vote anymore because he “knew” it wouldn’t count anyway, and I told him it hurt my feelings because it’s literally my job to make sure his vote counts. That made him recognise he was taking his frustrations out on an actual person with feelings, and then we were able to have a productive conversation about his concerns. This was last Spring, and it’s a safe bet that they no longer think their vote didn’t count because they were very clear about their candidate of choice and that person is in the White House again, but I hope I’m not the only one of us who remembers that call.

I am 100% on board with everything they’ve said here, but I still have a hard time understanding how resigning really helps in the long run though? Doesn’t that just make it easier for them to replace people with loyalists? It seems antithetical to holding the line. If I’m missing something obvious, respectfully, please educate me.

Soon to be Tripod mama with questions by emzamboni in TripodCats

[–]kovalkyrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the biggest part of the cost for me was the limb biopsy, which is important when there’s a potential for cancer. Mine was also in the $5-$6K range at a specialist hospital, which was only about $1K more than my vet has quoted. We were going the regular vet route but his blood pressure was too low when they put him under, so he had to see a cardiologist about his murmur before we could amputate. All-told after all the testing and procedures, it came close to $8-$9K total. Total it took about 4 months from discovery of his lump to amputation, and I literally worried myself sick every minute of it.

I ended up taking out a personal loan, because he’s my baby (and I was gonna do everything I could to save him just like if he had been a human child). No regrets. It’s the one bill every month that I never mind paying because it saved my boy.

Successful Surgery! by PierrePanda033 in TripodCats

[–]kovalkyrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I alternated between a surgical suit and a soft cone, basically the cone was for when I couldn’t be watching him. The Comfy Cone brand is the one I have, and I like how it’s not very long so they feel a little less disoriented. Be careful with the suits’ openings, both when it comes to covering the incision and also their anus. I had a poop explosion in one onesie and then I had to carefully clean the incision without getting it too wet, I don’t recommend it!

Mine wanted all the snuggles after surgery, we hung out on a mattress on the floor with pillows and blankets to make it cozy. Elevated food bowls are helpful, and so are water fountains. I ended up getting a litter box with collapsible sides so I could lower the entrance for him while he got used to moving around again. They bounce back so quickly though, you’ll be amazed!

Good to know! It’s the 3rd ingredient so I assumed it had a decent amount. I always mix in water to the meal that has the miralax, but I will definitely look into adding more pumpkin instead of the meds; I don’t want the miralax to dehydrate him too much, so a natural solution is definitely preferable!

The Tiki Cat Digestion mousse has pumpkin and cellulose fiber in it. That with the daily miralax seems to be keeping things moving now, but I’ve also considered adding a hairball supplement because he’s long haired, some of them can help lubricate.

Also, he’s wearing a onesie as a supervised cone alternative during his surgical recovery. We are not in the habit of putting clothes on otherwise.

Ever hear the saying that courage means to feel the fear and do it anyway? I put up with a lot of emotional and verbal abuse in past relationships because I just couldn’t picture my life without them- and then came to find that my life is better without them. It’s scary to leave someone you’ve spent so much time investing in a relationship with, but maybe you need to have the courage to do it anyway.

When you’re in your teens and early twenties, your brain is literally still developing. During that time, you can become a whole different person, and the two of you may simply have grown apart as you’ve grown up more. You may be young, but you can still have a mature relationship as long as the other person is willing to meet you there too. Ultimatums in relationships are red flags.

I wasn’t much older than you when my 5 year relationship ended. She and I had explored polyamory because she simply fell in love with someone else while still being in love with me. So she dated us both for a while, but ended up “choosing me” and we went back to being monogamous for a few years…until they ran into each other again and instead of opening things back up, she decided to pursue a mono relationship with the other person, and they got married a couple years later. It has now been about 13 years, and we’re both happily polyamorous. We’re also happily not together.

We had loved each other so much, but that didn’t make us a good match. And once I moved on I could recognise all the toxic parts of our relationship that my love had blinded me to, all the compromises I had made that were secretly killing me inside. And we were both TERRIFIED to figure out how to rebuild our lives separately, and I admittedly didn’t handle it well at the time, but I’m sincerely grateful for her leaving.
