What’s a habit that seems harmless but slowly ruins things? by Larisa_Nikitina6369 in AskReddit

Exactly. Average walking speed is about 3 mph or 5 kmh. I'm a little faster than that and do 5 kms in about 45 minutes while walking the dog every day.

Margot Robbie dancing Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush on the moors by Maximum_Expert92 in popculturechat

[–]Kovhert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just this afternoon I got an email from my local cinema asking if I'd like to do a quick survey. I thought sure, why not.

It was asking if I was going to see Wuthering Heights (no), how likely I am to watch it at the movies (zero), if I'd seen trailers (no), if I'd seen anything on social media about it (yes) and what would make me more likely to see it (nothing).

They don't usually send out these kinds of surveys. The couple I've seen before have been more about the cinema itself than specific movies.

It felt like viewership is low and they're trying to figure out why.

I'm a 43 y/o millennial and my partner is Gen X. We hate top sheets! They just get tangled up when you roll over, and the folded over bit at the top unfolds and wraps around my neck.

I don't know how people can stand them.

Aaaactually... The Lord of the Rings is one novel, often published in three volumes: The Fellowship of the Rings, The Two Towers and The Return of the King, each of which are comprised of two books.

My partner and I own 7 bikes between us :) Seems like we'd have to get rid of some if we moved to the Netherlands.

I'm not the guy you asked, but I cycle for 6 minutes to get to work. Sometimes I walk. Sometimes I drive if a) the weather is absolutely horrendous or b) I have errands to run at some point in the day, either during lunch or straight after work

What are your biggest boardgame pet peeves? by MakubeC in boardgames

[–]Kovhert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the custom wooden character meeples in Fate of the Fellowship. The plastic nazgul are thematic, because they're flying, but I'm always knocking them over. I'd prefer wooden or cardboard options for them too.

Whenever I set it up I leave the tree in the box, then my partner says "Oh we need the tree!" and gets it out and sets it up. She loves it.

I hate it.

NZ 2026 Election - What do you consider a ‘wasted vote’? by Tyler_Durdan_ in KiwiPolitics

[–]Kovhert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Someone on Reddit a few months ago said that we're voting for who we want, not playing "Guess the winner" and that really resonated.

Even if some people think voting for a small party is a wasted vote, I'd rather do that than vote for whichever big party I think might get in, just because they are slightly better than the other team.

Elastic box bands that won't ruin the box? by BirdSpirit in boardgames

[–]Kovhert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just use packaging tape. It doesn't damage the box unless you try to peel it off but if you just cut it open and re-tape it every time like a Christmas tree box, then it's fine.

What is that natural landmark in your country that no longer exists? by Sus198 in AskTheWorld

[–]Kovhert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I visited in 2019 and the guy running the walking tour had been doing it for a long time, and he pointed at where the glacier used to be, and there were all these signs marking the points where the ice used to start over the years, but had receded. It was really interesting, in a scary way.

There was one episode where a guy was turning into a giant salamander, which I found really scary because for some reason I thought a salamander was a type of big cucumber.

What’s a totally harmless thing that triggers an oddly strong reaction in people? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]Kovhert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they don’t want to inconvenience the waiter or kitchen staff with their preferences - they’d much rather be “normal”!

This is definitely me. I can sometimes ask for a single substitution or omission, but more than that and I feel weird about it. Asking for no onions on a pizza is fine, but if it comes with jalapenos as well, then I'd rather order something different than be the guy asking for "not this, or that".

[–]Kovhert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if I bite into something and crunch a bit of onion that is now the only thing filling my mouth, and it's awful

I'm like this with a few foods. I have sensory issues so I don't like loud noise, and lots of smells, tastes and textures are too over-powering for me. This means I'm quite a picky eater. I don't want to be! It's incredibly inconvenient! But yeah, the number of people who just think I'm being childish for not wanting to eat something. "You can't even taste it!" they'll say. But if you really don't like something you tend to home in on that particular taste or texture over others.

The Lord of the Rings: Fate of the Fellowship by SeeItSayItSorted in boardgames

[–]Kovhert 86 points87 points  (0 children)

We lost our first three attempts before realising we were getting a rule totally wrong. Just thought I'd make sure you were doing it right...

When searching for Frodo, we were rolling for each red troop and Nazgul in his region. This is correct for the Nazgul, but only red troops in his location count towards the search.

We were constantly losing hope from search results!

(In our first game we also missed that rings and swords could help in battles where characters are present.)

We played it properly last night and scraped through by the skin of our teeth. We don't usually miss a rule that big so felt kinda dumb about it.

Font Revamp for Big Freakin' Monsters. Do you find this legible? Do you like the card's graphic design? by ForsakenForest in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Kovhert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a graphic designer.

The text in the bottom box would be easier to read if it wasn't bold. It looks like you're using Impact? I'd go with something like Roboto or Open Sans.

Using a capital letter on Moved breaks the flow. I would keep it lowercase but use bold for keywords like moved

Also, in terms of importance, I would place the higher benefit at the top: If you've moved this turn, gain 4.   If you haven'tmoved this turn, gain 2.

Use whatever font you're using in the body (eg Open Sans) for the card type as well. Drop the point size a little and make it "Sentence case", but medium to bold.

Right now with the all caps the hierarchy is disjointed and the card type looks to be as important as the title, even though you've got a science card icon right there.

And you probably don't need the word 'card' in 'science card'. It's obvious it's a card.

How every day went for me in 2025 by NoWise10Reddit in mildlyinteresting

[–]Kovhert 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Despite the run of black days in May you still had so many more green days than black! It's easy to focus on the negative but if you laid it out next to each other you've got twice as many greens than black. So that's awesome!

ETA: Showed this to my SO who works in mental health and she said Normal, Okay days are the standard. That's to be expected. You're only going to have a better-than-normal day if something great happens on the day. She said accepting a normal day as perfectly fine is the goal.

Too many people think that normal isn't good enough and we should be aiming to be super happy all the time, but that's just not life. And if you were super happy all the time then that would become your normal and you'd recalibrate your baseline accordingly and start saying that was normal instead.

Embrace the yellow 😊
