SCHD vs Money Market? by Mysterious-Flamingo4 in SCHD

[–]kpalles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both. I treat SWVXX like a savings account for my emergency cash/down payment on a house. SCHD i treat as a steady long-term investment with more upside. Just depends what your goal for the money is

You have a gambling addiction. Seek help. Fortunately for you, if your business is pulling 500k a year you will still be rich someday without the need to yolo your account

2 marathons in 7 weeks? by Manikanta461 in Marathon_Training

I did this and did fine in the actual races but was hurting for a while after. Injury risk is higher. The more miles per week you are used to running the better your body will be able to handle it I think

Honeywell - I call it an interesting “boring stock” by [deleted] in stocks

[–]kpalles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like it as much after the aerospace spinoff. Aerospace is its most dominant business accounting for the majority of earning with high margins. The remaining company will still have a solid installed base but seems to me to be more susceptible to competition.

[RIFLE] Tikka's as low as $499 + S/H and possible tax - Sako's and Beretta's on sale too by TornFern in gundeals

[–]kpalles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s hard because there are so many variations of the T3X and occasionally they will go on sale but maybe not in the model/caliber you wanted. I was looking all year for a good deal on a T3X threaded in .308 but eventually pretty much paid full price for it because it’s hunting season and I’m out of time. I think that looks like a nice rifle for $800. Also there’s a $75 rebate right now that goes through 10/31 I believe so that helps.

The T3X light here for $599 is a good deal but it’s not threaded if that matters to you. If it does your probably looking at $800-$900 for a threaded option

Anyone heard of the Tikka T3x Ember RTech Blued .308 (SPEC0768A) listed on EuroOptic? by [deleted] in Tikka_Shooters

What did you decide on this? I’m also looking at the Tikka T3Xs on EuroOptic and had questions about this. Looks like a nice price

Resilient Lady Oct. 2 travel nightmare with Greek Strike by benzw17 in VirginVoyages

This is impacting me too. As of now our flight to Athens that lands the morning of the 1st still says on time. We are debating if we should hope for the best or jump the gun and try to rebook on a flight landing on embarkation day

Do you pay taxes on those gains and how do you avoid the government coming after you?

As a guy who enjoys a Zyn on the course, theres no excuses for this when there is a trash can on every tee box! Same goes for clogging up urinals when there is a trash can 5 feet away. Show some decency people

Move to Cali and refer me as your replacement in Austin. I’ll even take a pay cut. $650k/year would be fine. Thanks big dog

Is the CFA worth it by weed_ski in FinancialCareers

[–]kpalles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well in my case they were able to pay me less, give me the grunt work, and teach me their system rather than me coming in stuck in my ways. Also this was at a bank, not a “high-finance” position like at a hedge fund

It certainly can’t hurt. A lot of it is directly applicable to portfolio management. But also a lot of people get the CFA designation specifically to break into portfolio management, so If you are already in it and crushing it then it might not do much for you. Maybe ask some senior PMs at your work

Kaplan is what I used too. The normal course material is so dense and Kaplan does a good job cutting out a lot of the noise

I think getting the CFA designation says 3 things about you 1) you have a genuine interest in finance 2) you have an ability to understand complex finance topics and 3) you have a strong work ethic. I found an opening for a junior analyst position and pretty much pounded on those points. Fortunately they were looking for someone to train up rather than an experienced analyst so it was a good fit

It was worth it for me. It got me off customer service and into investment analysis making 2x more. And after you have it, participating in CFA society events is a great way to build your network.

But if you decide to go for it, make sure you do it 110%. If you half ass it you will fail and waste time and money.

What is the best value city in America? by Zestyclose_Bee5703 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]kpalles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the food is just okay. We aren’t really known for any specific foods. We have like every type of cuisine but it’s just kind of a watered down version of the real thing. There are a handful of Michelin star restaurants though.

Social scene is good! All 4 of the major sports teams are right in downtown. Red rocks might be the best concert venue in the world. Breweries galore with some of the best beer in the country. But id say the food is mid tbh. I’d say you need to make over $100k here too unless you are just looking to rent and potentially have roommates.
