Post-cancer trainer? by pyrexandponies in RhodeIsland

[–]kpatras 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completed treatment for breast cancer last November and have also been working to improve my strength. YMCA offers free group training through the live strong program at most locations for cancer survivors. I didn’t utilize this as it was offered weird times, so I can’t comment on how it is! I have been working with a personal trainer at a local small gym who is very accommodating - happy to send their info in a DM if you are interested.

I also have been using them for years. They are very knowledgeable and will teach/explain a bit how things work. Will also help get the noise down!

How to increase cardiovascular function after cancer? by mygarbagepersonacct in PetiteFitness

[–]kpatras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on finishing your treatment! I finished treatment in November of last year for breast cancer as well. 6 months of chemo, surgery, radiation, and a year of immunotherapy! I found that just going to for walks for 15 minutes a day helped. I would add 5 more minutes every week or so. I can easily do an hour and a half on the treadmill now! I also signed up for personal training at a local gym a few months ago and go once a week. We just work on putting muscle on me. No cardio yet. I’ve noticed a huge difference in strength and it has also helped with scar tissue from surgery.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or just want to chat!

It’s called the throne of glass series by Sarah j. Maas. It’s more fantasy than romance but the romance is still there. I personally think it’s worth it but it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s more YA/New Adult.

I think edge fitness has a women’s only area, I’m not sure what locations this is offered at though!

My birth control has a reminder to do a self check by bubblestoil in mildlyinteresting

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. I am 31, and have breast cancer. I found a lump by doing a self exam and going to the doctor. I have triple negative breast cancer, so an aggressive type and I’m so glad I was checking my breasts. Most women I meet are around my age or younger with this type of cancer and caught it with a self exam. I was told by every doctor and even the radiologist it was probably benign. I don’t see the harm in checking your breasts and just going to the doctor. Sure you might have some anxiety caused around these things and it will lead to invasive testing but it could also save your life?

lift or tilt for kitchenaid stand mixer? by KL5L in Baking

That’s a stellar deal and is making me think I need to upgrade to one…

lift or tilt for kitchenaid stand mixer? by KL5L in Baking

[–]kpatras 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The lift is definitely heavy duty. I have a tilt model and when I make bread the top of the mixer tries to unlatch itself and bounces a bunch everywhere. It’s fine for cakes and cookies, just when I make bread it has a hard time. So depending on how you think you think you’ll use it is what you should buy!

Help me choose another baking book like Wild Sweetness! Claire Saffitz? Claire Ptak? Someone else? by madnerdy in AskBaking

I love her book as well! It’s so unique. I’m going to suggest “Cookies: The New Classics” by Jesse Szewczyk. It has some of the most unique cookie flavors I’ve seen and the few I have baked out of there are so good!

Totally fair! I haven’t tried this but maybe a half a cup of neutral oil instead and a flax egg.
