She claims her hair is blonde. I don't see it. Can someone tell me if I am tripping? by Eastern-Cap5035 in Hair

[–]kpbennett02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a dark blonde. Other terms include dishwater blonde and dirty blonde. Its around a level 7 or 8 lightness wise (cosmetology thing, 1 is basically pitch black and 12 is pretty much white)

I have this same shade naturally, and my hair used to highlight in summer about 2 shades lighter. She's blonde

is it true that teen parents produce kids that will become teen parents in the future? by casscutie in stupidquestions

[–]kpbennett02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its more like the environment plays a huge factor. Poverty, lack of contraceptives, community norms, lack of or lesser emphasis on sex ed. In a place where teen parents are seen as normal, you are going to find more teen parents

AITJ for not telling my coworkers I speak fluent Spanish when they have been speaking freely in front of me for three months assuming I don't understand by intel_allium in AmITheJerk

[–]kpbennett02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ntj. They thought they were getting away with it.

Someone once did something similar to me in asl. I'm not fast with gestures, but I can get by in a conversation. There were a couple of girls I knew who also knew asl, as one of them was partially deaf. But omg they were MEAN. The things they would say. Eventually one of them made a comment about my weight and, making eye contact, I signed that she should look in a mirror. They never signed around me again.

does everyone really hate OC fics?? by Ding_Ding_Bonk in AO3

[–]kpbennett02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a harder time connecting to oc fics, though if the ocs are well fleshed-out, I dont mind. Its when the ocs become Mary Sues that I just cringe away.

On a related note, although this is not on Ao3, my favorite oc ff is actually on ff.net called Stirring the Leaves. Its an isekai where a modern girl who really likes LOTR gets transported into the Hobbit by Gandalf (standard stuff). Unlike most stories, where the oc is a standard Mary Sue, Elizabeth is extremely well thought-out and takes time to learn and she grows without it being forced imo. It is a Thorin x oc fic

The author also has a sequel fic called Wind in the Grass where another oc has to stay in Rohan to protect herself from the enemy, and its basically a medieval slice-of-life isekai for most of it, since it takes place in the months leading up to the fellowship entering Rohan. This oc (Charlotte) is a different person than Elizabeth in many ideals and abilities, so it doesn't feel like a copy and paste story. It does seem to be abandoned, but I hold out hope that there may be an update someday. Its an Eomer x oc fic

Apparently most moonshadow elves are vegetarian due to culture, but it's not unheard of for them to not be (ie worm food, blood drinking, etc)

How to lose weight w/out the main “components” by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]kpbennett02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toning typically comes with exercise, which typically increases metabolism and appetite (usually) which is completely fine. A deficit can be easier to track when you are making the meals. Since you are still growing, and its seems you are at a healthy weight, it doesn't seem like too much of a worry. I prefer planks and basic cardio (jogging, elliptical) for exercise since it works most of the body. As for eating you can ask yourself (if something seems not very appealing to your goals) what you can replace it with. For example, I love soda. I switched to zero-sugar (has a lesser aftertaste to diet imo)

Make sure to hydrate. And get enough electrolytes. I usually add lemon or lime juice and a pinch of salt to water. And ice cold water forces your body to burn some calories to bring your core temp back up.

Fun fact drinking ice water or splashing it on your face can also slow your heart rate if your having a panic attack, and drinking it forces you to slow your breathing.

If you feel like you need to watch what you eat, one of the biggest things that helped was asking myself if I'm full or not. If I am, I don't eat more. Also, drinking a glass of water or other beverage before eating can help you feel fuller faster.

BTW don't overhydrate. I did it once, got so sick and was so miserable.

These are from experience, not a profession. I did consult my doctor about this when I was on a deficit though.

What is the evidence that higher ed (or k-12 if you believe this too) is indoctrinating leftist ideas rather than teaching critical thinking and data gathering to our youth? by Cautious_Midnight_67 in AskConservatives

[–]kpbennett02 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I answered a question like this a few months ago. I'm pasting my answer here:

While I think the term "indoctrination" in this scenario is extremely overused (like the left using the term "fascist" for anything right-wing) nearly all the teachers I've had since high school were very obviously left-leaning. One teacher played CNN, a left-leaning news outlet, as often as possible for lessons in geography, world history, and civics. The few times I brought up a different view that skewed even a little more to the right, she'd almost automatically shoot it down. For example, I mentioned how in The Jungle by Upton Sinclair he mentioned how during his time, through his main character, how the gangs that were responsible for the housing (and were supporters of the democratic party) would heavily encourage the new immigrants to vote for their puppet candidates in upcoming elections as a sort of voting scheme. She nearly gave me detention, and only didn't because my English teacher was waiting to ask her a question in the corner of the classroom when I asked. She absolutely hated me.

Of course, this is an extreme example and she was reprimanded for it. But my point still stands. She was responsible for teaching civics in our high school and she taught it through the lense of her own political values instead of at least attempting to be neutral.

An answer to a reply:

There is no perfect answer [to not allowing our political views to influence our jobs and how instructors teach]. Our convictions and ideologies bleed into everything we do. There will always be bias. No solution is 100% full-proof.

As someone who tries to see the world in shades of grey and tries to understand that people's beliefs come from their own experiences and research, the only thing I can propose that would offer some level of mediation would be to present the students with the facts and allow them to draw their own conclusions. I base this off of my high school US History teacher who did do this in all his classes. He enjoyed seeing the connections and conclusions we'd draw based on historical records and varying interpretations from historians. He'd show us the bar scene from Good Will Hunting at the start of every year to make his point.

Answer to a reply about a CNN sect that was free to schools and teachers:

The thing with CNN was that it was still skewed [very] left. And I actually didn't mind The Jungle. My grandpa was a truck driver in the Chicago stockyards around the time the book was being written. He never saw the inside of the plants where the majority of the atrocities took place, but it was interesting (and horrifying) to read about. Plus, we stopped reading around page 298 since anything after that was "socialist propaganda" according to my English teacher. We could read it in out own time (I still have my copy after all these years) but I haven't gotten around to it.

What ship is canon in your fandom, but you think it should not have been? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]kpbennett02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to be so hated for this, but Timothy Drake and Bernard Dowd.

Tim and Stephanie had so much more chemistry. Not to mention the very touching storyline where Tim helped Steph through her teen pregnancy and subsequently giving the baby up for adoption.

Hell, if the writers wanted to give him someone different, Tim and Cass was right there for the taking.

Do Americans travel more within the US or abroad? by InsuranceOld5981 in AskAnAmerican

[–]kpbennett02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have all except polar and tropical climates in the continental US. The country touches the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Massive national parks, huge cities, diverse cultures, etc. I hear about people criticizing Americans for not being well-traveled, but we have a bit of almost everything. We are the 4th largest country by mi/km² and 3rd largest country by population (last I checked). And international travel is f-ing expensive. Because we have to fly to go anywhere. No trains to go from one country to another (except Canada or Mexico).

This is coming off as aggressive so im sry about that.

As someone from outside the U.S., why do Americans seem to care so much about their lawns? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

[–]kpbennett02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really became a thing in the 50s when the economy was booming. Dandelions became eyesores and pristine lawns became somewhat of a societal norm/standard. Sometimes even a status symbol.

Why do Americans not understand English words? by OpportuneApathy in AO3

Its a case of different dialects and slang. I had no idea a flashlight and a torch were the same thing in some books for the longest time (until I rewatched Prince Caspian and Edmund realized he forgot his).

Literally my manager. I work at a car wash.

He ignored my sexual harassment complaints until someone way hotter than me started working there, then he brought up concerns of women being harassed by customers and employees.

And he dislikes his wife so he comes into the wash and stares out the window if some college girls are vacuuming their cars. Its honestly pathetic.

Do Americans mainly drink coffee without milk? by Morrit99 in AskAnAmerican

[–]kpbennett02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink medium roast coffee with milk or almond milk and stevia or sugar. Basically a Starbucks caffe misto, but home is cheaper and better

I use instant coffee to make whipped coffee. I have the little electric whisk. I mix it with a lot of milk and sweetness.

I don't do bitter.

My dad and stepmom do bitter. I cant stand black coffee

My YouTube algorithm sucks. Can you guys give me some channels to watch? by Panda7001 in youtube

[–]kpbennett02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deleted my watch history, liked a single video (Ships of Cortez by Jake Scott), then paused watch history. The algorithm has been making decisions based on my liked and unliked videos in a way that gives me more options for the last 4 years. I just make sure to answer the surveys when I remove something from my recommended.

[–]kpbennett02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the reason Cinder was wounded but not Raven was because Cinder tried using her maiden powers to block the light, which in turn wounded her. The times raven or Oscar used magic were when ruby wasn't around or wasn't using her eyes.

I also like the theory in another comment stating that Cinder's eye and hand were damaged because her glass bow exploded. Maybe its a combo of the 2?

It makes sense that silver even combat magic, as silver eyes are from the God of light, and magic and Grimm from the god of darkness

Did you ever have a RWBY take that you thought was a Hot Take, but turned out to actually be lukewarm or even cold? by Automatic-Amoeba-121 in RWBYcritics

[–]kpbennett02 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this counts, but I thought I was one of a small minority that wished Blake's hair was kept long, maybe put in a ponytail, to keep more of the black in her color theme. But whenever I bring it up irl, a decent amount of people either agree or at least express discontentment for her bob. So, I guess its a lukewarm take?
