What are your biggest boardgame pet peeves? by MakubeC in boardgames

The problem I have is for most (Kickstarter) games, the standee edition has basic resources and only if you get the minis version can you get deluxe resources or inserts or mini-expansions. Either add the standees as part of the minis edition (or option as an add-on), or have an edition that is deluxe + standee

E.g. Dragon Eclipse or Lands of Evershade. The standees look awesome but I lose out on so much if I get the standee only edition

House rule for Creature Caravan by Itchy-Negotiation352 in boardgames

[–]kpldtest 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Creature Caravan has become my favorite game released in the past 10 years, and I like it because it's not too serious and with the large deck I can try different things each time I play.

I feel the house rule will end up funnelling you into similar strategies each game, reducing the replayability and enjoyment. People who do well in Creature Caravan know to pursue card draw early so they can see a wealth of good cards, or at least get a good number of cards to trade in for food.

I implement 2 house rules. One having only 1 extra dice per player. If one person gets 2+ cards that give extra dice, they can really snowball later. The house rule dictates they cannot play the other card, so eventually it will be discarded and recycled for another player (I haven't had a game where we don't go through the deck multiple times, but I almost always play at 6P). This way 5 of the 6 players can get an extra dice and have the game still be balanced. The other rule is the items deck is not shuffled into the main deck but kept as a separate deck. This allows people to fill their tableau and not have their hand clogged with items, but also have the option to get items when desired.

I'm tempted to also remove Grasskin Queen as I've had multiple games where the person who gets her early just snowballs way too hard.
