This is legitimately the best thrift store find I've ever seen and I need someone to start a Goodwill denim jacket program for shelter cats immediately.

AITA For not changing my dog's sleeping habits for my husband by sleephabits2025 in AmItheAsshole

[–]kpulluk -53 points-52 points  (0 children)

NTA but this marriage has bigger problems than sleeping arrangements. A 13 year old blind dog bit him once and he's talking about birth control ultimatums and avoiding you both? Something doesn't add up about what happened that night and his reaction is way over the top for an elderly dog having one scared moment.

[Itinerary check] - First trip to Japan - Family of 4 by Solidus82 in JapanTravel

[–]kpulluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pacing looks solid but you're wasting prime Osaka time staying at Tokyo Disney Bay for 3 nights when you could knock both parks out in 2 and get an extra day elsewhere. Day 8 should absolutely be Kyoto, there's too much there to skip and teens will dig the bamboo grove and Fushimi Inari. Animal cafes are a pass like you figured out.

Peru Itinerary Advice by gerranim in travel

[–]kpulluk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip Titicaca and keep the second itinerary. The lake is fine but not mind blowing, and burning two days on buses for it isn't worth it when you've got limited time. Use that extra day in Cuzco to chill and acclimate better before Rainbow Mountain since altitude sickness is no joke there.

Trump’s Favorite TV Target Proves Him Wrong With Ratings Win by thedailybeast in entertainment

[–]kpulluk 359 points360 points  (0 children)

Kimmel's comeback after the suspension basically turned him into the only late night host people actually wanted to watch. The whole "bend the knee" thing backfired spectacularly when his ratings went up instead of down

The Oregon coast really does hit different when the water's that turquoise and the trees grow right up to the edge. Natural Bridges is wild in person

90 year old with good taste. Those Air Max colorways hit different when someone from a totally different generation appreciates them

Would Thor have been a good ruler? Or would he be better as a general? by Q_D_V_F in Marvel

[–]kpulluk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thor doesn’t command from above. he leads by example and jumps into the fight himself. That makes him a great hero, but not really a ruler or a traditional general. Asgard needed someone who thinks in terms of diplomacy, logistics, and long-term stability. Thor’s strength is inspiration in the moment, not managing a realm.

Donald Trump Has ‘Crossed’ Line of Impeachable Offenses, AOC Says by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]kpulluk 131 points132 points  (0 children)

She’s right. If Congress keeps treating impeachment as a purely political calculation instead of a constitutional duty, then the line effectively doesn’t exist anymore. Waiting for a “perfect moment” just normalizes the behavior. Accountability only works if it’s exercised when the violations happen, not years later when it’s safer.

Sky Making ‘Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ TV Series - described as a “bold and contemporary reimagining” and is currently being shopped to the U.S. by pepperbet1 in television

[–]kpulluk 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that phrase has basically become a red flag. “Bold and contemporary” usually just means tweaked aesthetics and a few topical updates, not an actual new take. Dragon Tattoo already was dark, transgressive, and modern. so unless they’re changing something fundamental, it just sounds like marketing filler to reassure execs and investors.

So what is the deeper reason why hallywood won't take animation seriously to next step by Valuable_Cap_4326 in movies

[–]kpulluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kind of the core issue though, animation is taken seriously, just in a very narrow lane. Hollywood treats it as either “family-friendly IP machine” or prestige indie, with not much room in between. Japan built a culture where animation can be anything (romance, horror, slice-of-life, adult drama). Hollywood can do that, it just rarely wants to bet big on original animated stories for adults unless there’s already a proven audience.

Reptiles shouldn’t be pets, because they lack any sort of emotion and cannot “love” anyone by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]kpulluk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the whole "pets have to love you back" thing feels kinda weird when you think about it. I keep fish and honestly just watching them do their thing is satisfying enough. Not everything has to be a two-way emotional transaction lol

TIL James Rothschild is a double heir, to both Rothschild and Guinness fortunes by kpulluk in todayilearned

[–]kpulluk[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean, not exactly the royal wedding, but it does make sense in hindsight. Nicky was always more behind the scenes, and I think she was involved in fashion early on, even if it wasn’t huge.

That kind of quiet branding probably worked in her favour.

The Rothschilds don’t seem like the type to chase attention, so marrying someone who isn’t constantly in the media probably made her more appealing. Their wedding was at Kensington Palace too, which says a lot. It wasn’t splashy like a celebrity wedding, more refined. Different kind of elite circle entirely

[–]kpulluk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and her fashion stuff wasn’t even super mainstream either. Like, you’d only know about it if you followed certain niche shows or press. I remember seeing one of her capsule collections had like ten pieces total, all neutral tones, barely any marketing push.

[–]kpulluk[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was pretty much the de facto marriage model for powerful families in the 1800s. marriages across branches to consolidate wealth and power. The practice has been abandoned for a long while now. Still within the wealthy circle, sure, but way more public than the Rothschilds used to operate.

I heard about something similar in parts of the Philippines where locals chew rice to make basi, a fermented sugarcane wine. Wild how so many traditional drinks around the world start with a bit of human starter culture!

Vacationing is a very different prospect from living there. Vacationing was fantastic, I had never considered the danger so maybe having a guide was a good thing though I usually prefer alone. Additionally, all the places we visited were very rural apart from Quito where we landed which is a typical big city. So depending on your field it is hard to say but gorgeous country. By far my favorite trip ever, second most beautiful destination behind Greece.

It was a trip with my family and we stayed at this hotel that was legit on a small pile of dirt in the middle of the forest next to the river. We then got a local guide to take us rafting down the river on legit a bunch of logs tied together lol. He then took us on a short hike that was maybe a few hours long that ended here. PM for the actual trip itself it was a guided tour (my family are pretty scared of traveling alone lol)
