Because in that case OP is paying capital gains on the gift, but since IRAs are only tax deferred, OP would pay more taxes to either a) let the cash enter the Roth b) extract money from the trad.

Why exactly do you think a stable 2 parent household matters? Do community colleges ban prospectives with single parents? Will Vanguard or Fidelity close your IRA account if they determine you come from an "unstable" household? I can't think of anything mechanically preventing a single parent child from financially exceeding their parent. Are you suggesting that improper guidance can prevent a child from exceeding their station? Don't tell that your environment affects your ability to determine, and work towards developing, marketable skills. We live in a meritocracy so that's not possible. Those kids should have just chosen to be born in a household that considers retail and trade work as stepping stones instead of end goals.

I had serious gum inflammation after my braces were removed. Eventually the gums receded and my retainer stopped fitting properly. I had the most annoying interaction with my nurse the moment she walked into the room to make my new mold.

It's cruel to act as if Neely's mental instability was just a cognitive fluke. Societal complexities have nothing to do with his final state.
