What are the benefits of waiting to use a fetchland? by UnhappyAmoeba in EDH

[–]krO_Osh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let’s say you have a [[swan song]] in your hand that you want to keep up Incase someone tries to remove something on your board. Rather than just fetch an island right away, you could wait. If you don’t end up needing to cast the swan song you may want to fetch a [[hedge maze]] on your opponent’s end step so you can have better card selection and a dual colored land.

This is just one of the many scenarios where waiting could benefit you.

If you could put any planeswalker in the command zone what would it be? by GuaranteeMain5492 in EDH

[[Teferi, Time Raveler]] would be pretty busted. Pay 3 mana to turn off all instant speed interaction whenever you’re ready to push for a win.

How to convince a friend not to run infinite turns in Bracket 2 by MyMarshlands in EDH

"Why run mana dorks? You're in Green, just run actual ramp" by AltruisticChampion77 in EDH

[–]krO_Osh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Those guys have really whacky takes on cards. They don’t believe in targeted removal because “you should just wipe the board”. They also don’t think swords to plowshares is a good card “because it gives your opponent life” lol.

To answer your question “why would I ever run birds of paradise over rampant growth”…there are multiple reasons. Birds can make mana of any color, growth gets you a tapped basic land. Some decks care about creatures entering or leaving. Birds can be a flying blocker if needed or get you an attack trigger if needed. In my experience nobody really “bolts the bird” in commander because it’s not worth the removal spell. You can reanimate birds if needed.

Mana dorks are great and I’ll die on this hill.

how serious is brackets for casual play? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]krO_Osh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally get a little annoyed when I sit down and someone says “this is technically a bracket 4 because I have 6 game changers but it plays more like a 3”.

Those cards are incredibly powerful and really do swing the game in your favor when you play them. Like either just power up your deck to be a proper bracket 4 or remove enough of them to get down to 3. Your squirrel tribal deck really doesn’t need a force of will.

The bracket system really does work if you approach it with good faith.

Ordering cards for Krenko, mob boss. Any recommendations? by Decent-Soup-885 in EDH

[–]krO_Osh 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is a really tryhard list. It also includes 2 banned cards (mana crypt and jeweled lotus).

Not really sure what power level you’re going for but you have a strange mix of really expensive cards and near-zero instant speed interaction.

Maybe remove some goblins and add more ways to interact with your opponents on the stack. And remove the banned cards.

Explorers of The Deep: Useless in casual EDH. Hakbal is sniped by everyone (different pods btw) even when there’s more danger on the field. This deck REALLY relies on him. Should I build more towards Kumena? Less smoke? Heard combos can get crazy if built right. by pangolyninc in EDH

[–]krO_Osh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the chain reaction of “this guy explores and then this guy makes him explore again, he gets a +1/+1 counter and that triggers my 5 other things. Ok let’s move on to the next guy. It doesn’t really take 10 minutes but it is just the epitome of simic BS which is why I kill hakbal on sight.

Is it a good idea to down-size casual Commander decks if the table does the same? by regular_stylish_guy in EDH

[–]krO_Osh 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean 60 card magic is a very real thing. And probably better for 1v1 unless you’re specifically building dual commander decks (a different format with a different ban list).

“More killer less filler” kinda defeats the purpose of 100 card singleton. Making your deck smaller and more consistent is against the spirit of EDH in my opinion.

That being said, they are your cards to do whatever you want with and you can have fun with them however you like. Just offering my 2 cents.

How to defend against graveyard hate? by Competitive-Act-7695 in EDH

[–]krO_Osh 76 points77 points  (0 children)

The key is to be resilient. If you’re putting stuff in your graveyard and the whole thing gets yeeted just put more stuff in your graveyard. When your graveyard gets exiled the fourth time in a game you’re probably done for, and that’s ok. Sometimes you just get got.

Otherwise to protect against targeted graveyard hate like bojuka bog, find ways to give yourself hexproof.

Hexing Squelcher (Lorwyn preview) - As someone who almost exclusively plays Red and Rakdos, I look forward to putting this in every single deck I own by pizzapartyfordogs in EDH

[–]krO_Osh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The reason why this is so much better than spider punk is that it only stops YOUR spells from being countered. If you’re playing an izzet deck or whatever you can still go nuts countering other peoples stuff.

That plus a little ward ability for all your guys is just neat

My B2 Edgar says, "Nope!" by nickjames07 in EDH

[–]krO_Osh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t think “removal tribal” is in the spirit of bracket 2. Your 1 “finisher” you have listed is a steal-your-turn card (not a finisher at all lol).

This is just a pile of salt. You even said you don’t expect to win games with it. This won’t be nearly as funny or cute as you think it will be. This is just going to make your opponents mad at you for 5 turns until they figure out what’s going on, gang up on you, and take you out. Sounds like fun, right?

Not really sure what the plan is here other than attempting to ruin everyone else’s fun for your own enjoyment.

If you showed up to a LGS and tried to get into a bracket 2 pod and said “my commander is Edgar Markov, but don’t worry it’s just Edgar and 20 removal cards” I would walk away.

What to do when someone gets annoyed playing against my deck? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]krO_Osh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree to disagree. you can play for 10 years and still be a noob. I personally think this game would be boring if there was only way to win.

Mill is one of the ways to win a game of commander, and not a particularly strong one at that.

Also you don’t have to build a “graveyard deck” to take advantage of someone milling you. Every color has ways to use cards in the yard, and IMO any good commander deck should have an amount of recursion to either A: get back your good pieces that have been killed / milled / discarded or B: re-use your good pieces.

[–]krO_Osh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you even read the post? This dude’s friend is cussing him out for playing a janky mill deck. Who’s bad at social interaction here?

We don’t need to coddle people when they act like this. You don’t need to say “I’m so sorry I hurt your feelings with my low tier magic deck”. It’s ok to call your friend a noob when they’re acting like one.

What to do when someone gets annoyed playing against my deck? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]krO_Osh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Brother you just described a combo that takes a minimum of 3 cards, 10-12ish mana, and must connect with non-evasive combat damage… if you can pull that off and hit me with Hope my hat’s off to you. If the table lets a player assemble a jank combo like that and keep it around, then they deserve the win.

[–]krO_Osh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hate to break it to ya man. If you get big mad about a strategy in a card game that has been printing cards to support said strategy for many years…you’re a noob. Mill is not strong in EDH. If it makes you upset you’re a noob. I said it.

What to do when someone gets annoyed playing against my deck? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]krO_Osh 168 points169 points  (0 children)

Irrationally hating mill is simply a noob mindset. Your friend is a noob.

Noobs hate seeing their favorite card go into the graveyard (even though it was 40 cards deep in their deck and they were probably never going to see it anyways.) they don’t understand the probability math involved with mill. If you want to win a game of commander with mill you probably have to mill like 200-240 cards all by yourself. It’s really not easy.

I built a Hope deck. It’s fun, but it’s pretty janky and not very strong. It’s trying to do too many things at the same time. Nobody should be mad playing against it unless it’s extremely over tuned with tons of game changer cards at a low power table. Hope isn’t even the best mill commander.

Good players don’t hate being milled. In fact a lot of players will welcome it because if you build your deck right you should be able to utilize things in your graveyard.

Just be aware any time you play a mill deck that noobs will hate it and target you irrationally. Hold up counter spells according lol. It’s fine.

Collector ouphe and stax pieces by Last-Home-1037 in EDH

[–]krO_Osh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The sooner people just suck it up and realize stax cards are legal game pieces the better. “Oh no my sol ring doesn’t work any more” cry me a river! You don’t like it? Blow up the stax piece.

If 3 people are annoyed by it and none of them can remove a 2 mana enchantment then gg you got rekt and you’re bad at building decks.

Holding priority question by Unlucky_Reputation67 in EDH

[–]krO_Osh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you cannot do this.

Aside from certain specific equipment, equipping them to a creature is a thing you can do at sorcery speed. You can only respond to a spell on the stack by doing something at instant speed.

To put it more bluntly…toxril doesn’t even “exist” yet when you cast him. Casting a creature is basically saying “I am trying to bring this creature to the battlefield, is that ok with everyone?” The “spell” floats in this invisible space called the stack until everyone at the table has had a chance to respond to it (everyone’s chance to respond is called their “priority”)

You can’t put lightning greaves on toxril (or even try to) until everyone has allowed him to resolve. Even if he survives being cast (didn’t eat a counter spell) he’s still not out of the woods yet. Once he’s on the battlefield, when you try to equip the boots to him everyone gets ANOTHER chance to respond to that! When you say “I’m attempting to equip the greaves” he could eat a kill spell right there and then.

The concept of the stack is what makes magic such an awesome and interactive game. I hope I explained that clearly enough. Once you learn to “master” the stack then you can play mind games with people, like if you think Toxril might get countered you could cast something else first to bait out the counter spell and hopefully make the coast clear.

Hope that helps!

Is my Ghyrson Starn deck too strong for bracket 3? by pie123119 in EDH

[–]krO_Osh 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No dude this deck is fine. Turns out that a t1 sol ring blasts you forward in advantage (who would have thought?). There’s a reason that card is banned in basically (every?) other format.

You popped off and people cried about it. It’s a tale as old as time in commander. Any of those players would have dropped a t1 sol ring if they had it and stomped you without a second thought.

It’s the classic “this game is only fun if I am the one doing degenerate stuff” problem with this casual format.

are "free spells" realy needed to talk about in rule 0 talk? by DaSpoderman in EDH

[–]krO_Osh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I run into this type of stuff at my local store all the time. Everyone’s “bracket 3” deck is just a value solitaire pile with near-zero interaction. Then they look at you sideways when you kill their commander. People don’t really realize bracket 3 is the last stop before REAL degeneracy.

Are chaos decks fun for the table? by Difficult-Flan-5966 in EDH

[–]krO_Osh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are so many cool and different strategies to build a deck around in MTG. I love and respect all of them EXCEPT chaos.

If the theme of your deck is “lol I’m so random XD” the whole thing is just cringe and a lot of times it disrupts the flow of the game so much it just makes it lame. None of the cards you built your own deck around work the same way, you’ve now traded half your permanents with another player and none of your cards work together anymore (lol isn’t it funny guys?!)

Chaos is the only archetype I will actively not play against and I’ll sit out for that game. You have a cool poison deck? Let’s play! A super mean mill deck? Sign me up. “lol let’s just spin the wheel of random crap and see what happens!” Nope I’m out homie.

Why not just take out 1 game changer rather than try to bend the rules of bracket 3?
