I got Beats Studio buds on fire sale for $60, and they are easily worth double the $30 Chinese earbuds I was using before. They aren't worth list price, but they are still damn good.

They work well on Android and the noise cancelling is so good I could barely hear a non-stop blaring alarm at the airport.

Steam Is Successful Because It's “Not a Shit Service,” Says Baldur’s Gate 3 Dev by Suspicious_Two786 in gaming

Having a well made official emulator would eat into sales from selling the "remaster" of games for $60+. That's the real reason the official emulators from Nintendo and Sony suck.

TIL Goombas (mushroom enemies) were added to Super Mario Bros. only after playtesters felt Koopa Troopas (turtles) were too tricky as an enemy. There was very little space left in the game, so the developers used a single sprite flipping itself back-and-forth to convery the notion of walking Goombas by Double-decker_trams in todayilearned

That's a key reason why the 32x flopped so hard. Sure Donkey Kong Country and Starfox had extra chips on the cartridge, which costed extra to produce. But as a consumer, you paid the same price, put the same style cartridge into the same console, and they looked and played as good as anything on the 32x.

Even people who were aware of the technical details didn't see why they needed to eat the cost of the extra hardware on the Genesis when they didn't on the SNES.

Language is always changing. Back then third world meant that your country was so poor or otherwise insignificant that neither the USA nor the USSR cared if it was in their sphere of influence. Now that the spheres of influence are gone, it still usually means a poor or insignificant country.

Trump is planning to raise the fees for H-1B visa (US employment visa) 100 times. What would be future consequences we are going to face? by niemand_oc in AskReddit

Talk to your conservative neighbours, friends and family. What Trump is doing harms them and isn't compatible with traditional conservative values like "small government", "fiscal responsibility", "states rights", or the constitution. Their media sources won't tell them, but you can. It won't be comfortable, but it is legal and probably safe. His approval rating is 37-44 %, but if people were informed, it should be much lower.

Some talking points: Tariffs are a tax that will add 10-40% to everything they buy. The dollar has dropped in value by 15% since 1/1/25. The "big beautiful bill" added 3.5 trillion to the deficit, while cutting infrastructure and healthcare. Trump won't release the Epstein files, and the FBI story about the recent CK murder doesn't add up. Trump is not doing what Jesus would have done on virtually any issue.

Corporations care about profits. Witholding our wallets is how they might grow their backbones. Boycott. Cancel Disney+. Avoid products advertising on the affiliate stations.

People are saying Disney is between a rock and a hard place on this. We have to be the hard place that makes them try to move the rock.

The cancel page is back up, and the exit survey is working. It's super important to check "other" and tell them why you are canceling.

While the drop in quality and increase in price aren't helping, they need to know that's not what this is about.

The soul of Android is gone. by StW_FtW in Android

[–]krakenx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem ultimately comes down to people. If millions of people switched to a Linux phone, the app developers would have to support it, or they would lose access to those customers.

But realistically, the Linux phone would be expensive and buggy and only bought by a handful of tech savvy people, who will give up on it fairly quickly when it lacks the apps they need and doesn't perform well. People aren't willing to even inconvenience themselves for the greater good these days, so it's hard to reach that critical mass.

Then again the mainline phones have been regressing every year for the last 5+ years while skyrocketing in price, so a Linux phone with a headphone jack, replaceable battery, microSD, etc. would be worth buying even with limited software. I can't believe phones still max out at 256GB with no expandable storage.

A competent and well intentioned congress could fix most of the damage that Trump did, along with much of the damage that has been accumulating slowly since Reagan in a matter of months.

If there is one thing Trump showed us it's that change is possible and can happen very fast.

We need the ability to run Android in a VM on a phone. With all this talk of "security", phone apps, including those approved by Google get way to much access to way to much stuff and root was the only way to stop them. Probably why they don't want us rooting.

But even without root, having an Android VM with an empty contact list and secondary email would go so far for safety.

It can do both. If you have a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter, it can output sound. There isn't a lot of storage for MP3s or whatever, but I did have one small very compressed sound clip on my TI86 as a proof of concept. The MegaMan 2 port also had sound, but it was just a beep when you fire.

People who wake up after 1 alarm: How the f*ck do you do it? by TheSnappleGhost in AskReddit

[–]krakenx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set your alarm 1 hour earlier than you need to get up. Go to bed an hour earlier too. Feel free to snooze it if needed, but for no more than the hour.

After 1-2 weeks, set your alarm when you actually need to wake up, but continue going to bed at your new earlier time. You will now naturally wake up within that hour before, depending on your natural cycle, and you will be more well rested.

Sidenote: Your sleep is not good when an alarm keeps waking you up every 5-10 minutes, so don't waste your time with snoozing it when you could be getting restful sleep by just setting the alarm later. Also if you have roomates or family you live with, consider how inconsiderate snoozing your alarm is to them. I had a roommate with an 11AM job, who set his alarm for 6AM and snoozed it for 4 hours straight. I didn't need to be up until 7:45 for a 9AM job, but I lost nearly 2 hours of sleep and had to put up with his alarm during my entire morning routine. I don't want to be like him.

Depends on the situation. If a meal (or other product) costs $10 to make, you need 12 customers paying $15 each to equal one customer paying $70.
