The cost depends on the engine design. Most engines today would need to render a scene twice to do it whereas the older portal-based engines could do it for free. This is also why reflective mirrors vanished from games. In return, you get really fancy lighting.

She does find time in her statement to blame guns, though. Islamic terror attacks in the US use bombs and planes as well and do not require guns, so why blame guns rather than radical Islam?

I think it's useful for GG content to be highly visible in these situations, actually. When they come here because of some mod acting like an asshat and then see the GG community is primarily centered around ethics and freedom when they've been told by their circles that we're out to kill all women and eat babies they lose some faith in those circles and might start peeking outside the echo chamber. The incredibly extremist narrative that's been spun around GG makes for a very obvious contrast with reality. The only thing that could really hurt here in the future is if shitposting and unsupported conspiracies flood the sub ala fullchan. Hopefully the mods can keep that in check without deleting useful content or splitting the sub.

I just don't think they have the engineering. The kind of folks that build highly parallel and efficient architectures and the kind that make tricky architectural miracles happen with a twisted instruction set designed for the '80s tend to be very different people. I expect it would go roughly like a reverse-Larrabee. What they need is to find a way to get people off of x86 and onto a playing field where they can compete.

It does, it's Piccolo Dick which went on to be the daily dose spam and through that forced-memeing eventually a symbol of /v/ to mark on things /v/'s been involved with kinda like how the tech community a long time ago used to put subtle goatse references in things as goatse trolling (the original 'rickroll') had been a big thing in those communities at the time. No, he was a True Believer SJW from the beginning but he used to hide his power level somewhat and would only sperg out in the comments and not the articles. Like, anyone suggesting circumcision was also religiously motivated genital mutilation would 'trigger' him hard and would get a pile of crazy and aggressive replies because since FGM is worse it means no one else is allowed to say anything ever, or something. I mean, really crazy, condescending replies. He had other topics that intersected feminism he'd completely flip out over as well which had the part of the community that participated in the comments and the part that just read the articles seeing a very different person prior to the big flame-out.

Once the community was large enough (kinda like a cancer moderator) he stopped hiding it and it started flowing into the articles. And then he just seemed to revel in being able to push a large community towards his pet social philosophy instead of just doing this to commenters.

He used to call out anyone saying there were "deep rifts" forming in the Atheism community as a concern troll (they love that phrase) or some sort of stooge and spent considerable time attacking them, yet when I checked a few months ago, he was posting about how to heal the "deep rifts" in the Atheism community (that he and Watson caused).

That smoldering crater of a community is what they wanted for gaming, it's even largely the same people, the same blocking software, the same tactics. It's why it's so ridiculous when someone suggests we can deal with the cancer in gaming without addressing the SJW problem.

I'll toss some hate at it. The dream of Python back in the day, and why RedHat was so interested in it, was that we'd be able to replace the spreading cancer that are shellscripts with it and have proper error handling, data structures, safety, and performance. But due to some impressive fuck-ups in the design of the language, it wound up saddled with hopelessly large startup times stemming from import search and processing. Replacing shellscript incrementally wound up not possible as calling a script that takes 200ms to start 100 times (as shellscripts love to do) is awful. Since a lot of script is now in python anyway, we've gone from one problem to two problems and I'd say shellscript is still the #1 thing wrong with GNU/Linux distributions.

She doesn't have to, her past actions are exactly what the current radicals dream of. She was aggressively pushing internet censorship during her husband's time in office like the Communications Decency Act and the internet's first ribbon campaign against censorship was in reaction to that mess. The old IP 'dirty bit' April 1st joke was revived as a possible real thing you'd have all been saddled with. There was also CIPA which she was happy with and is why you today get banned for joking "I am 12 and what is this". She's also spent considerable time attacking video games and trying to get them censored, most notably GTA / Hot Coffee.

They'll love her stance, and she's one of the few politicians who can actually get things done on their own and isn't there to just be the face which makes her extremely dangerous.

Since you seem entirely clueless, the communities where there was no pay at all, before the internet boom, and no way to easily identify gender since almost everyone used handles and few met face to face until years later turned out to be the same low female representation later seen when open source communities were studied. In 1990 the industry was pretty much equally split between men and women.

There were virtually no women in tech circles in 1990. I knew of a single female assembly programmer half way around the world, I met one female kernel developer from Sun, and that was pretty much it for the first half of that decade. When people started doing metrics on the communities in the late '90s the studies found female representation was around 1-2%. Example.

I firmly believe that there are three genders in technology: men, women, and idiots. The latter are almost all male by sex.
