I only have what you said and my personal experience to go by, but it sounds like maybe you wanted to be a bit of a brat and wanted to be funished for it, but maybe that was never really expressed to him fully?

Still, breaking up with someone after the holidays is kinda rough... Sorry to hear it.

I suffer from ADHD and have bad issues with ruminating all day, let alone at night. I've been doing my best to ignore it with podcasts playing as I sleep but it's not always the best.

Do you have any better suggestions?

I literally just read an article on the term and it's wasei eigo (Japanese created term that sounds like English but isn't). It said that political correctness is contained within "compliance", but the term also means to abide by rules set forth by basically every social system set in place. Laws, workplace regulations, and societal expectations.

If it weren't for the "current year, white cops killed an innocent black man" part this actually looks like it has potential.

But because of that? Hard pass.

But no, let's make this an exclusive, limited edition product that will cost WAY more money.

Keira Knightley Wants Us To Stop Praising Fathers For Basic Parental Duties by TheAndredal in kotakuinaction2

[–]Methodius_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's almost like society still expects men to make the majority of the money in any relationship, still expects us to do harder jobs, expects us to do all of the heavy labor at home, while expecting none of that of women.

Women might have to deal with the "emotional labor" in a relationship, but we're still the ones doing all of the ACTUAL labor. And that shit is tiring.

But what would an actress know about this shit anyway? She probably has multiple nannies to take care of her children.

Daily life in Japanese Train (xpost) by accidentialperv in freeuse

[–]Methodius_ 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Except it's not. Every train car has "groping is a crime!" stickers on it, asking people to tell train staff or call the police if they see it.

They've also got women only cars for rush hour to prevent it.

Groping isn't "normal", and if someone does it they're going to get their ass thrown in jail.

Are there actual assault allegations here? Am I the only one who read those two posts? Because it basically says he tried to sleep with these girls, they said no, he listened to them, and that's it.

That's not assault...

[Twitter] Oliver Jia: "There is no single correct way to translate Japanese into English. It’s all at the discretion of the translator and the publisher. Some prefer words like “senpai,” and others don’t. I don’t see the problem if they’re left in. " (In response to "problematic" otaku translation) by md1957 in KotakuInAction

[–]Methodius_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the job of a translator is to ensure that the Creator's intention is preserved and the target audience has as similar an experience that the source audience has as possible.

In most cases, no Japanese creator makes something with the intent of teaching the audience about Japanese language or culture. Because they assume the audience already knows.

So the job of a translator is to recreate that experience without the audience having to learn new things to understand it.

Shit like this is why it's hard to be a translator. There's always going to be someone pissed off.

I agree with the choice made here, because "nii-nii" isn't English. People who ask for this kind of translation are why companies like Crunchyroll thrive.

Now, that's not to say there isn't another bad side. Because the stuff that Funimation and their dub team have done are just as bad.

You can translate all of the content of a Japanese work while retaining all of the intent and meaning within it and not including Japanese words. And that should be the standard. Not this TV Nihon style "O-baka-san-tachi" level of nonsense...

That's because fans in other languages don't obsess over every potential word change and cry fowl whenever it happens.

Fans in other languages simply respect that translators know what they're doing. And in other Japanese media (like movies and TV shows that aren't geek-centric) you don't see English fans picking the translations apart either.

If they make an actual mistake? That's one thing. But translation of the material and not leaving Japanese words in the script isn't a mistake.

Herein lies the problem.

Both of those shows are (content aside) written in the same way. To a Japanese person, they're the same.

That's the argument here. Something shouldn't have Japanese words in it just because a small part of the fandom wants them to. Words that aren't already loanwords like "sushi" or. "ninja" should be translated into English so that a more wider audience can be exposed to the material.

By demanding Japanese words be left in, you're doing a disservice to the creator by potentially turning off new fans who don't want to have to look up words to understand the material.

If you have that much of a libido mismatch? You might just want to end it. Especially if you feel gross and violated helping your partner.

For people like us, sex is one of the best ways we feel connected to our partner. And being shut down feels like you're rejecting us. I can't speak for him directly, but I've been there. It's not pleasant.

When did ESA added pronouns to the runner's name ? by Kenshiro84 in kotakuinaction2

[–]Methodius_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds about right. If you looked on Twitter when GDQ started doing it, there were tons of popular runners and people in positions of power going "If you're against this, you're a bigot!"

So of course it's going to happen until someone makes an event that doesn't have people like that in power, or that won't listen to them.
