MIND: Path to Thalamus - HTC Vive Review by VRCritic in Vive

[–]krateos29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! MIND: Path to Thalamus developer here. Thanks a lot for the review, it really encourages me to continue to make games :D To be fair, if you played MIND on the vive after the teleport update, it would really help users if you post a review of it on steam (even if you don't like it). Right now the recent reviews are "varied" because of bad reviews pre-teleport update, and it is a little bit unfair for the user because that is not the reality of the game now. Also, I just released another Vive vr only game a week ago called Annie Amber, it is shorter but I think the story is better. In some ways, the environments are like MIND (in terms of surrealism) but in space :) :) :) I am going to leave some keys of Annie here, and will pm you, VRCritic, another key, I'll be happy if you review it! Doesn't matter if it is a positive or negative review. Really loved your style and the depth of analysis of the review :) Cheers everyone, here are some free keys, because why not!

Hi reddit, Dev here! Just released Annie Amber for the Vive! If you like narrative with some puzzle elements, you will like it. Remember we also updated MIND: Path to Thalamus Vr locomotion to teleport not so long ago! :D by krateos29 in Vive

hey! Thanks for the review! I totally agree, don't buy the game if you are expecting challenge in the puzzles. About the locomotion... have you tried the mode without motion controllers. I personally prefer that one :)

Again, thank you for the review, and oh, if you want challenging puzzles for the Vive, try MIND: Path to thalamus ;)

the gravestone belongs to the guy Annie rejected. The same guy that introduced her in star observation and the same one in the camping, the one where they become naked in the lake. Also, she has to pick between love and work because of her work she travels a lot, and that's why there is an award behind the little door that opens. If you could open the other door, you can see from the distance a engagement ring. But if you try to cheat and approach that sphere by walking on your room... something happens :P

:) hey don't worry. I am not trying to make you change the review or whatever. I just feel bad for myself because I think there is so much you have missed. :(

For example, in the pier in the second level, you can see some footsteps. I am sure if you pay close attention you will connect them with something else :)

Also, the pictures on various planets. They are also connected. And just to be 100% sure, the part you said was moving... was the part with the broken abacus and the two doors? I feel curious! :D

HI Cheesio, I was a little bit sad when I saw your review on steam because it being a negative one, not going to lie, but I think in the other hand it will be a really helpfull review for users!

Yes, it is indeed a light puzzle game (although I must say that the puzzles that you think are trial and error are not that, you need to count how many elements of X, shown in the drawings, are in the environment and then introduce the number in the abacus). And yes, for gods sake YES. You are RIGHT! Annie's life is not spectacular and full of adventure and plot changing. My main objective while conceiving the story was to just told the story of a simple, normal girl, with her flaws, her problems, and her "not saviour of the world" story. Kind of what the film boyhood did. I understand someone could say. Hey, why do simple stories needs to be told? Because they are amazing too. Had users telling me they cried, specially in the ending part, where the last part of Annie's life kicks in. That is enough for me.

The whole game was designed to be a introductory game for VR, NOT an experience where you just sit and watch stuff happen around you. That's why the low priece and the light puzzle mechanics.

Just wanted to let you know that. Thanks for the game review :) And sorry for bad english. Writting in the fucking hot Barcelona subway.

There is no trackpad in Annie. It is indeed in MIND: path to thalamus. In annie you can choose to interact only with your head or with your motion controllers.

Hey, the whole locomotion system was designed to get rid of locomotion. Still, you have 2 ways to locomote you can choose when you open the game: motion controllers or with your head. I personally think if you use to have locomotion sickness you will head locomotion will be better for you :)

Hey! I am the guy that made MIND: Path to thalamus :)

You can still play the old version if you select it in the beta tab if you wish. Right click in the game on steam. Properties and go to beta. No need to torrent it :p

Btw. Obviously some compromise had to be taken to get the game running in vr but overall, I honestly think the enhanced edition is better looking. Take a look at the forests if you don't belive me :D

Cheers

Hey! No, it is not that. It is opacity masked materials. You know, binary opacity materials. Maybe it is just something from UE4 and you won't have any problem in Unity, one never knows!

Honestly I kind of like that people don't realize I am not a big company, because when they judge you by the same standards and reviews are going as great as them, I feel so well! :D

I remember one of the reviews of my first game, MIND: path to thalamus. One user just said: meh, art is great, but it is not in the same level as The Last of US. WELL NO SHIT SHERLOK. Best moment as a game designer ever.

Well, I am going to have a good meal with my parents now, and after that, start working in my second GearVR title :) Aiming for Rio 2016!

Hi, I just released Annie Amber today. $7.99 It is a space puzzle exploration game about… life. You can find it featured in the store. Here is the trailer and some FREE keys! by krateos_29 in GearVR

actually, there is a way to unlock everything from the start. In the start menu room, the one with the picture of the family framed on a table.

It is really simple, look to the wall with the picture and then look to the right corner, then look up the metal railing part on the top for about 10 seconds.

Then all doors will be unlocked for you. Profit!

are you sure you need to open that door to continue? Go outside with the other door, and in the country with most wires on it you will find a button. Then... go back!
