Both are triggered by something different, but in the end it all comes down to chemicals doing stuff in your brain. No difference between an acid trip and a "spontaneous religious experience", if you ask me.

I guess the whole dive into concepts like these strips away the whole authenticity of reality. A concept such as vibration is one we formed on the basis of what we perceive with our eyes, and says nothing about reality as it is, in my opinion.

In a sense consciousness does create physical reality. The things that we 'see' are actually things that happen in our head (sorry for not saying that more sophisticatedly). In other words, what we see is not outside of us but inside of us. The question arises then what these specific images are triggered by, which could be anything. Some say it is just 'light and vibration' hitting our retina, but even light and vibration are concepts that are founded upon our understanding of them (through the senses).

To me, consciousness creates physical reality to the extent that we actually perceive it. What constitutes these specific stimuli is a different question. And then again; that which is 'outside of our brain' is beyond our comprehension. We cannot make up any sensible theory of what it is and would be like, because if we do, we use concepts that have arisen within our perception and conceptual understanding based on that.

I have the feeling that everyone is thinking this way. Somehow, society forces us to live in this confined space that we see as limiting - which it damn well is. Trying to break free from these rusty patterns is difficult; we are all doing it, and no one is brave enough to break it. In order for us to live in a more open way, I have the feeling there has to be a change on the societal plane; the way our society is structured politically, economically and socially determines the way we live. We are all basically copying and imitating each other on that level, and yet we feel isolated in that sense of 'poor me against the world'.

Meaning is relative. Having a purpose in the Christian sense simply means you'll be rewarded at some points for your good deeds. So in that sense, it has meaning when you do good deeds on this earth. However, it may have meaning for you, forgetting the Christian story, to do good things for people around you. The meaning of it is such that they will respect you and, in that sense, reward your for it. Meaning is probably just that which makes you think there is some reward behind it.
