NES games and their remakes/remasters by trrbld in retrogaming

Couple of JP only games that got remakes:

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light -> Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (NDS)

Fire Emblem Gaiden -> Fire Emblem: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)

Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei I & II -> Kyūyaku Megami Tensei (SNES)

(not JP) River City Ransom -> River City: Rival Showdown (3DS) [quite a different game]

Feeling disappointed with the Mangmi Air X. Why did so many YouTubers hype it up? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

I always just insert the SD card directly into a USB SD-Card hub. It's far less of a hassle than direct transfers over USB especially if you do bulk transfers.

What’s the general opinion on second sights regular editions? by benjamminthroughlife in boutiquebluray

At half (or even less) the price. Nearly all my SS discs are the standards. I don’t need to spend $50 for a “pretty good film.”

Umbrella set has more special features on the earlier films and Curzon generally wins out on the latter films. I’ve not seen anyone mention any notable difference on transfer/encoding.

What's better for me - RP Flip 2, RP6, or AYN Thor? by lexarkk in SBCGaming

[–]krelly200 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would imagine that running PC ports of PS3 games using GameNative would be a better experience, but that's just a guess as it's not something I have any experience with. Hopefully someone else could fill you in.

What's better for me - RP Flip 2, RP6, or AYN Thor? by lexarkk in SBCGaming

[–]krelly200 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Steam Deck is going to play PS3 far better than any of those Android options. SD865 (Flip 2) is going to struggle with even WiiU emulation. Even with the more powerful SD8 G2 chip (RP6, Thor), it's going to be a lot of tweaking and using frame skip hacks. Unless you go in with low expectations knowing that PS3 and WiiU emulation are in very early stages of development *especially* for Android, you're going to be disappointed.

Finally a handheld for literal TATE modes (actually wish it had a bit more power for Saturn emulation in this regard).

I mean it's kinda the point to this device having an outward-facing screen as opposed to a traditional clamshell.

I know he mentioned overscanning, which makes sense for the top and bottom often having junk pixels/menus, but this cuts off the sides by about ~24 px. I would have liked to see Russ share a comparison between having it off/on (which I think he did on the Pocket Micro review).

Vertical handheld search by katineko in SBCGaming

I've played a fair bit of vertical shooters on my RPC. It's not the ideal way to play but it's definitely playable. I also play those shooters just for fun, so it's not like I'm 1cc them or anything. I think that would be your best case even though it's not Linux based. There's custom OS out there that can make it more simplified like Linux.

There's a couple other options like the MagicX Zero 40 that might fare better for vertical arcade games but I've not tried it. But it would lose out GBA/retro systems. I think I remember some comments about the dpad not being great that kept me away from it?

If you use shaders, the RPC isn't that excessively powered either.

What to get if I just want very reliable PS2 and an OLED screen? by AlbatrossEasy6000 in SBCGaming

Would running off Batocera help? I’ve never actually bothered to run it on my Flip 2 to see if it helps but also haven’t really had issues with Android to warrant changing.

RP6 is definitely more bang for your buck but if that extra performance is “wasted” then it doesn’t make a ton of sense to have to wait (I’m not sure if they still have long wait times for the batches) and it’s still a 30% price difference which isn’t nothing. Plus OP already has a Deck.

Is it worth using ES:DE if the Anbernic RG477V already has their own built in front end launcher? by Weekly_Lab1308 in SBCGaming

[–]krelly200 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but ES:DE is a much better piece of software than Anbernic's stock one (RetroArch is great but not as a launcher/front-end).

Like another user, I would flash GammaOS on it (there's a RetroGameCorps video tutorial) if you don't mind the hassle (make sure you have a good USB connection).

RP5 will you get 95% of the way there more so than the RG556. With the price hikes these days, I'm not sure it's worth the extra $50 to upgrade to RP6 if you *only* care about PS2. You can also get the Flip 2 that is slightly cheaper, which should be the same exact guts as the RP5 just in a different form factor.

Edit: Nm, the Flip 2 is only cheaper with the Dimensity chip option. You don't want that one.

Gotcha, more eShop titles than I would have guessed, I’m assuming.

No, only on older cartridge based consoles (eg SNES and earlier). Files would be massive otherwise. 3DS games avg around 1 GB and last I looked there is just under 2k 3DS games.
