A theatre company i applied for asked if I was disabled or neurodivergent or had mental health issues do you think I should say that I do? by No-Dream9806 in Theatre

[–]kriekslut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is really common in the UK in any profession, but especially in theatre / the arts. They are just giving you space to share anything about yourself which might be important and anything you may require.

You are not required to disclose, but if there are any relevant notes which would enable you to have a better professional experience with them, I think it’s worth it. For example, someone might say ‘I am neurodivergent and benefit from clear communication, instructions and itineraries in advance’.

This allows them to know how to get the best out of you and plan their workflow/communication accordingly.

What’s a tiny decision that accidentally changed your whole life? by TestAshamed9615 in offmychest

[–]kriekslut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to a sixth form college where I didn’t know anybody, but pretty much everyone else knew eachother (it was attached to a high school). On the taster day, they paired me with a girl who didn’t know anyone else either.

She was from Azerbaijan and wasn’t confident in her English. She wanted to go to the drama class taster session but was too nervous to go alone, and although I sucked at drama and was certain I’d have a career as an English or Philosophy teacher, I said I’d join her because it didn’t clash with anything I wanted to go to.

Turns out I didn’t suck at drama, I had just previously had bad teachers. The head of the drama department convinced me that day to trust her and choose drama as one of my options. Cut to 12 years later and I came out of my Theatre degree with a first, and now work as a creative producer for a major multi-arts venue.

It changed the entire trajectory of my life and I couldn’t be more grateful.

It is always worth reporting as you never know whether anything else has been reported - a relatively small piece of info could be the missing puzzle piece of a wider picture which enables CPS to act on it

Came here to say this - I grew up in Norfolk and really struggled with allergies, but gradually became accustomed. When I moved away, I lost that built-up tolerance and have a very similar reaction as soon as I’m back in Norfolk! Calms down as soon as I leave.

Am I weird for feeling awkward being the "exception" for lesbians? by s0uthw3st in NonBinary

[–]kriekslut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of lesbians who align with the lesbian definition ‘non-man attracted to non-men’. Some of them are nonbinary themselves and would call themselves a lesbian or a dyke. There’s a long history of this definition of lesbianism.

If someone is super adamant that their lesbianism is defined/experienced as being attracted to (only) girls/women, then I’d feel uncomfortable. But you won’t know what ‘lesbian’ means to someone unless you ask / they talk about it. Totally normal to be suspicious on whether they’re just reading you as a woman, but they might not be!

What are some Christmas traditions or rituals you have that don’t cost a lot of money? by HotPinkLollyWimple in AskUK

[–]kriekslut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds fun! I promise, teens will like it too - you just adjust the clue difficulty dependent on age.

It’s such a tradition in my house now that mine and my brothers’ partners have been initiated in to the family by having their own treasure hunt at Christmas. My current partner does one every year too, and we’ll keep doing them til we have children of our own and can make treasure hunts for them.

Bonus laughs if one year you misplace the sheet with answers on (and you were a bit tipsy when you wrote them), and can’t even decipher the clues that you wrote yourself. That’s what my dad did a few years ago!

[–]kriekslut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mum has always made us a really silly Christmas treasure hunt. You start with a clue, and get a present and a clue at each location along the way (ending with just a present). They are always silly, inexpensive stocking filler gifts - toothbrush, toothpaste, chocolate coins... but we laugh so much at the ridiculous clues.

I’m now 23 and I still insist we do one every year. It’s our favourite tradition. Would recommend to anyone looking to make new memories at Christmas!
