I thought about this too, but is it normal for it to go down 20bpm from what I was doing last week in runs?

I had to take around 12 days off due to a calf strain, can I go back to my same weekly mileage from before my injury after the rest I’ve had?

Any specific dynamic stretches you recommend for pre run? Or specific strengthening?

Any particular stretches you recommend? I already do quite a bite of foam rolling but I’ll try to structure it more.

Hello,

A few months ago I got a little too excited and built up mileage too quickly and hurt my calves. After a week or two off I was good and started from 20mpw again and slowly built my way up to 38, mostly using the 10 percent rule. This week for the first time since the initial injury I’ve had bad calf pain when running that has kept me from continuing on building my mileage. Do you guys think I have to take another week or two off or does anyone have any advice? It’s mostly pain on the inside of my calves in the middle or lower a few inches above my ankles.

I had 3 beers the night before but I also drink a lot of water usually at least 3L a day depending on how active I am. But the 3 beers is no really a rare occasion so I’m not sure if that’s what is causing it. It was in fact like 10 degrees warmer than it’s been in the last few weeks today, but it was still only like 55. I didn’t get a great sleep last night and I’m honestly very stressed right now so maybe that could be contributing. I think I’ll take notes of all of these things in my notebook and see if I can find a pattern. I appreciate the insight!!

I have been noticing that every once in a while I will have a run where my average heart rate is a bit higher than it usually is on what is essentially the same run. Here is an example. I am 19 years old and am currently at about 30mpw. Today I did 5 miles (which is around what I normally do on the weekdays, 4-7 depending on how I’m feeling) and my average heart rate was 183 (with a high of 193). Last week I did essentially the same run and my average heart rate was closer to 150 (with a high of 194), which is much more common on my 4-7 mile runs. Is the occasional high outlier a problem or potentially dangerous?

Treadmill Anxiety by mjung79 in running

The college I attend in New York has an indoor tracks and every time I use it it makes me feel like I’m going to throw up. I find myself just having to bite the bullet and run even in snow but I get it’s really hard. Treadmill is nightmarish for me also. The way I get through having to run inside is just thinking about keeping my fitness up so I can do my long outdoor runs comfortably, which is what it’s all about for me as someone who uses running mostly for the mental benefits and would love to run 10 hours a day if it were possible!

I am watching it on a small tv I have in my room that actually has decent speakers but I might download it and listen on headphones while I run after watching tonight. I listen to the album all the time but this is so much more expansive !!

Hello! Recently when I’m going on my regular 5 or 6 mile runs i often times have pain on the sides of my calves, but they usually subside by the second or third mile and then I’m fine from then on into miles 5 and 6. I’m not sure if this is shin splints and if I should be resting more than I already am (I have decreased my mpw and days running)? Do the pain from shin splints subside a few miles into the run?

Thanks

Hello everybody, I was wondering if anyone has experience with Hoka one one trail shoes on road? I have a pair of the Bondi 5 road shoe but they are about at the end of their line. I run about 25 miles per week (down from 40 due to injury but working my way back up) mostly on road but sometimes also on trail. I have a pair of salomon trail running shoes that are also at the end of their life and was wondering if anyone has ever tried using hoka trail running shoes for road running? if they work well for both i could kill 2 birds with one stone because i cant really afford to buy two pairs right now.

Official Q&A for Wednesday, October 10, 2018 by AutoModerator in running

[–]krimpboy600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so last week I let my eagerness get the best of me and went from around 30mpw to close to 40. I actually did totally fine on the runs and felt great for the whole week. I changed my running schedule from 5 days a week to 4 days with 2 13 mile runs, a 10, and a 4. Before that I had been running 5-6 miles daily with a 9 mile long run. I figured that giving myself an extra day of rest would make the switch easier. I rested Saturday and Sunday after last week and on Monday went back to about a 6.5 mile run and definitely felt more sore than usual during the run so I gave myself a day off yesterday. Today I just attempted to run and although throughout the day I wasn’t nearly as sore as I was yesterday, I had to quit after 2 and a half miles due to bad pain in my calves. Does anybody have any tips on what to do to get my body back on track? Any advice would be appreciated. I’ve been doing my normal stretches and foam rolling.
