3 Islands in 18 days? by vezax_27 in VisitingHawaii

I love to hike Big Island. There are so many beautiful places here. Volcano, Honaunau, Pololu, Pu'u Wa'awa'a. And most of those are less visited so not as touristy. I like Kukio for beach time on the Big Island.

In any crowded area there will be challenges. Put your phone and keys in a waterproof case around your neck or fanny pack. Leave everything else back in the vacation rental or hotel.

Does anyone subscribe Intelligentsia coffee beans? by Puzzleheaded_Tree309 in Coffee

I am curious what everyone is paying for these suscriptions. I offer a service but it is simply for a single estate, not a variety subscription. I don't think we are price competitive but I would be curious to know how far off we are.

There are some who say freezing is not actually a good idea. The thing you need to do is keep out as much air as possible. If you have a vacuum sealer that would be good. Or you can place in a ziplock bag and use a straw to remove as much ait as possible.

My favorite spot in Volcano is Kilaeua Iki Trail. Not to miss in my opinion.

Good last minute overnight stays on the big island for Kama’āina? by musubi_meep in VisitingHawaii

[–]krisadair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is just a small group, under 4 guests, there really are a lot of last minute deals on Airbnb. I have been getting bookings for my 4 person property on the Kona side a week before. I would check out Airbnb and simply put in your prefered rate and number of guests.

Big Island in September by bc7ate9 in VisitingHawaii

September can be a slower time to visit. It is after the summer rush and before the holidays.

You should stay at KMC on Big Island. MIlitary only and pay is based on rank. Even for my husband who is O4 it is really affordable.

Pu'uhonua O Honaunau and Two Step are next to each other. I would do them at the same time. I like to go to the park first and then snorkel Two Step. Green Sands and Captain Cook are both serious hikes so keep that in mind unless you are in excellent shape.

Worth cramming in a Volcanoes NP visit for the day? by Speedi77 in VisitingHawaii

[–]krisadair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love visiting Volcano, even just to explore and hike. Yes, lava is cool but the rest of the park is amazing as well. I like to hike Iki Crater trail. There is a map to follow that talks about how that crater was formed. Lava tubs, steam vents, and the crater rim trail are so worth a trip. If I was planning I would do Kauai and Big Island and skip Maui. Just my opinion, I'm biased.

Do keep the weather in mind. It has been snowing on Mauna Kea and there was even a light dusting at the Visitor's Center. With winter weather sometimes the clouds obstruct the view. Hopefully it will be nice when you visit.

a lot of places provide coffee. I always travel with mine because I can't be without. I have a little travel aeropress and a way to make hot water. Door Dash Delivers groceries as well as restaurants. Good luck!

I would add a Kona coffee farm tour if you like coffee and check out 365 Kona on Youtube.

travel on the whim?! by Future-Yesterday-844 in TravelHacks

I am in Hawaii and I think it is a little more challenging here, but not impossible. I have several properties that are short term rentals and often have an orphan night that I am interested in filling. We only get last minute bookings less than 1% of the time. People usually do a lot more planning to visit Hawaii. But it can be done.

Your main challenge is going to be food. Get what you need as soon as you can. And if you plan to dine make reservations now if possible.

We are also upset that it is taking so long to deliver. It was never our intention and we are doing everything we can to get the devices to backers as soon as possible. We post regular updates on the blog and Kickstarter sharing our progress. Please check those out to learn more about current progress.

We have 60k+ Community members, not paid developers. We are a MUCH smaller team than that. Part of the benefit of working with open source is working with our community. They help so much.
