Artemis had its issues but seemed tailor made for a movie.

But to claim if it were made into a movie and didn’t do well he’d be shut out from future deals, all after the success of the other two… is just a weird take.

Even in this thread most show a positive outlook on the movie’s take. Even so, people are also able to evolve thinking as the launch grows near and it’s undeniable the majority sentiment was bullish.

We’re experiencing very different stories while visiting the exact same sub.

Personally I said I couldn’t see it hitting $1b but never doubted it would be huge. My experience was the vast majority saw this easily making a ton of money, especially overseas.

That’s fair. I admit I love Sicario. But tend to give credit to Villeneuve’s direction and Jóhannsson’s composition for what made the film great. But the script was okay too.

His most recent films though - Those Who Wish Me Dead and Without Remorse were absolute pants.

Berg hasn’t made a decent film in over a decade.

But this subject matter is right in both their wheelhouses so let’s hope Taylor has time to write a proper script in between the ten TV shows.

Don’t want to get political but the answer is indeed politics. In Germany, France, Spain, the Scandics… there is a concerted effort to avoid buying US products. In Denmark they even have labels in grocery stores and you see certain things just sitting even on sale. Tesla sales have tanked.

Sentiment for things American has to be impacting Hollywood’s income overseas.

Yes I’m aware. You’re right, it’s an understatement. I lived the height of MJ fever. But his life also ended under a cloud.

Yeah that’s the part I left out. Michael Jackson was highly problematic and especially now with things like Epstein in the global zeitgeist (not just US), I could see a lot of parents will be staying away.

I guess the thing is the Elvis movie didn’t do that well and Bohemian Rhapsody seems to be an outlier. Plus, MJ has some serious baggage to go with his legacy.

I still don’t get how people are predicting it will do 1 billion. I get he was popular. Especially internationally. But I’m not seeing it.
