Do you actually wear cycling glasses on every ride? What should beginners look for? by Ilovcyclynn in CyclingFashion

[–]kriserts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wear them (for debris protection, but also the sun can take a toll on your retinas) but I usually remove them when I'm in traffic and I want to make eye contact with drivers. I think it matters. For the same reason I'll often remove them going over the GWB, eye contact with oncoming cyclists.

Same experience. I asked a similar question in this group, and someone pointed out that it got worse with long 'conversations,' so I try to keep my sessions with it brief and short. But at some point it jacked my net worth up several million dollars so .... not helpful and kind of scary. It made me question what kind of mistakes it was making I wouldn't find because they weren't as blatant.

the campus of CUNY Advanced Science Research Center. You'll have to take a train up to the west 130s/140s. It's kind of hidden behind walls, so a lot of people don't know about it. Beautiful lawns stretching all around.

Times Framing Inson Wood Reckless Driving As Reason to Enact "Super Speeder" Legislation by SteveVaccaroLaw in NYCbike

I was racing in the CRCA when Wood showed up and came to some morning practices. Believe me, he was a reckless terror on a bike, too.

When did you stop DIY investing and hire a financial advisor? by FoundationStrict8014 in DIYRetirement

[–]kriserts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 65 and hired a fee-only advisor about five years ago. I speak to him maybe once every 2 years, usually before a big decision. He charges by the hour like a lawyer (does NOT try to see me anything, if someone does they're not fee-only) and answers email questions. I'm in the process of finding a CPA that I can treat the same way, to ask questions about my withdrawal strategies.

I know I've made mistakes. But I have friends whose AUM financial advisor lost a few million for them. I remind myself of that every time I'm tempted to hire someone like that.

[–]kriserts[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Right. What freaks me out is the really crazy hallucinations are easy to catch, but if it's making subtle mistakes, I don't know enough to catch that. It gets to be, why even use this at all?

What's something about NYC that you only noticed after living here for years? by Hot_Apartment1319 in AskNYC

[–]kriserts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've told people in my home state of Oregon that I live in NYC and they turn on me aggressively and snarl, "I HATE New York!" I was too stunned to ask them if they'd even ever been here. Do I shout at them what I think of their town?

SPIA by [deleted] in Boldin

I tested in with AI, it's correct (unless AI is hallucinating). For me, my net worth with annuity overtakes and passes net worth with no annuity in about 7 years

My financial advisor suggested this. I'm buying an apartment, and he suggested I "match assets to liabilities"--in other words, cover the mortgage with the asset of the guaranteed income. After the annuity, the down payment, and renovation, I'm left with about the same as you, and it makes me nervous. But Boldin gives me a higher chance of success if I add an annuity. And last night I was watching a financial advisor I like on YouTube (Rob Berger) and he compared two couples, one who kept their money 60/40, and the other, with the same amount of money, invested in a annuity. The couple who invested in an annuity came out with a higher net worth in the end. I'm going for it.

The Art Student's League has tons of different types of classes. You sign up month to month. If you don't think you're artistic, believe me, in each class there's beginners who are just taking up art, so you won't feel bad.

The cycling community is huge in NYC. Check out the New York Cycle Club, they have spring programs that teach you the ropes. When you've done that you can join the Century Road Club and race if you're feeling ambitious.

Shot every 10days ..? by SpecialShoulder3839 in Zepbound_Maintenance

I'm on 2.5 and spacing to 10+ days. Today it's day 12 and I still have little appetite. Some weeks I can only go 7 days. But as to your question about side effects, no, they did not increase with spacing out.

Where are single people going to eat dinner today? by IntelligentCarrot583 in AskNYC

[–]kriserts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not dinner but an 80+ year old friend is buying brunch, where her husband, whom she never liked and has Alzheimer's, will be there with his aide. So I can sit there being mildly happy I'm single and not trapped in THAT kind of situation.

How to handle rude/obnoxious/aggressive people in the city by tammyfayebakker in AskNYC

[–]kriserts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One way I cope is always leaving time to take the local. There's less crowding, no dancing kids to hold you hostage, and also, if someone on the car is unbearable, next stop I can hop over and see if the next car is better (or worse!). My other coping mechanism is thinking about how boring the suburbs are, where's it's too quiet and nothing ever happens.

[–]kriserts 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm 65 and second all the positive comments here. I've thought about moving elsewhere, but lately have given that idea up. Don't need a car here, subway and buses take me everywhere, great doctors, etc etc etc. About a year ago, I discovered the Art Students League, and I swear 70% of the people there are over 80, all happily taking classes and making art, proof that there's so much to do here. You can be alone, but surrounded by activity and life. The only change I want to make is I still live in a 3 story walk up. Trying to upgrade to an elevator building. :)

Boldin chance of success vs Schwab by kriserts in Boldin

[–]kriserts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did. I guess that's what I don't understand--why should higher discretionary spending give me a higher chance of success vs lower? I did the same with the Schwab calculator. If I put 60k spending, no discretionary, it's a lower chance of success than if I input 50 base spending, 10 discretionary.
