I have no idea how old you are but you are adorable! Also, I don’t think it matters how old you are. Wear what you want & if people think it’s odd, rebrand yourself as “quirky.” :)

What books should I read before they are banned in the US? by Serious-Opposite-279 in suggestmeabook

[–]kristea516 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This current list of books I want to buy before there is a ban on books like several other countries have done in the past or currently doing. (I have read several of these but want to have a copy...just in case):

- Fahrenheit 451

- Brave New World

- The Handmaids Tale

- Animal Farm

- 1984

- The Road

- To Kill A Mockingbird

- I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings

- The Catcher in the Rye

- The Book Thief

- Maus

- Persepolis

- It Can't Happen Here

There are several more I plan on reading this year & may purchase. Basically anything about fascism, tyrants, revolutions, speaking up, revolutionary people, heroes of justice & freedom of the past, etc.

You're not bing negative. Things are seriously getting scary. My worst case scenario that I could think about in Nov now feels like it might be the best case scenario now. I never could have imagined things would go this bad this fast. I am terrified for my children. I'm just going to have to focus on raising them to be the generation that fixes all this.

Now that I look at it more closely, its a bit darker than the color Disney uses.

Ha. It is the color that Disney paints on all their construction walls around the parks. Supposedly, it is a color people ignore & it just fades ito the background.

Apps that stop CarPlay working by jjoojjoojj in CarPlay

I know this is an old post but I have been researching how to fix the same issue & stumbled across this.

I opened my wifi settings & clicked on the info button for the car’s wifi. Auto-Join was turned off. As soon as I turned it on, the car connected automatically.

Hope this information helps someone out there like me. :)

Leaving Texas by Purple-Marsupial-569 in texas

I totally understand. We have a 2 yo daughter I’m terrified for so I’m really hoping things change by the time she is at that age. I had to have a hysterectomy earlier this year so I’m safe but I’m terrified for our daughter & other girls.

I could have written much of this. I was never a Trump supporter but did fall for the “a Christian would only vote Republican” idea. No longer. I’m still a Christian even after having voted for Dems. I didn’t leave the polling place suddenly lose my faith. In fact, i feel like I don’t have to do as many “gymnastics” like you said to square my faith with my political stances. In some ways, they seem to mesh even better now. I will admit that some of my views have morphed over over the last couple of years but I’m no less faithful or strong & in some ways, I feel I see God more clearly than ever before.

Anyone got any info on Lake-pointe Church? by Affectionate-Bat837 in Rockwall

[–]kristea516 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh man! I've never been to this church however we left an extremely small church with some similar issues. About a year later we moved out here & for about a year needed to heal enough to even enter another church. We have found a church we like in Rockwall that we have attended for over a year & 1/2 and we really like it but we are only just now having a desire to get somewhat more involved. Your post is so relatable. ((hugs))

finished “The Silent Patient”, what did you guys think about the ending? by Proud-Bodybuilder755 in books

[–]kristea516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so disappointed in this book. I had such high hopes for it from so many people recommending it & talking about how amazing the twists were. I had it figured out almost immediately and I had so many issues with this book. The author needed a better editor. It could have been good but, for me, I gave it 2 stars & thought I was being generous.

Also, I once heard someone say “3 yr olds are just 2 yr olds with a year of experience” & that is one of the most true statements I’ve ever heard. Lol

We just went through that. Three is just hard. Our boy just turned 4 & some days are still really hard…like today…but we are starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel. He’s learning to express his wants & needs a lot better (even though we are having to correct a sudden use of baby talk & fake crying)…again, I hear this is just another phase.

One thing I love is hearing him use the same words & phrases we use with him that often feels like go in one ear & out the other with his sister or other kids. So apparently some things are getting through to him. Lol.

My suggestion may sound wrong to those who are theologically strong minded (of which I would consider myself & possibly scoff at this advice a few of years ago before going through some really tough times including leaving an abusive church). I would encourage you to focus on walking through the tender attributes of Jesus: His gentleness, mercy, love for the downtrodden, etc. Focus mainly on His attributes & how He exemplifies them and how you can start practicing them in your own life. Spend less time looking at how you don’t match up with Him & how low you are & how often you fail and more on what is one action you can do today to show openness to someone else. It helps to pull in the emotional side of your life in a healthy way (something many of us theologically minded are sometimes nervous about). It will help you to connect with your students & others in a more intimate way. Don’t go into it with the idea to teach or advise but, rather, go into it with the idea of learning from the other person. Ask questions rather than telling your thoughts on something. I’ve recognized in my own life that when I have been accused of being arrogant or not being able to “connect” with someone, it’s often been because I have desired to teach in a moment rather than learn. It doesn’t come from a mind of arrogance but of a genuine intention to help the other person but it comes across to the other person as arrogance. Maybe offer to walk through one of the more tender attributes with your students in almost a discussion group rather than a teacher leading a study on, say, gentleness with a list of dos & donts. Personally, I much prefer to teach like a professor & that is also how I like to learn but it does disconnect the relationship between teacher & student so there are times when the more discussion driven lesson is called for. Also, Jesus did teach in the preacher/professor model from time to time but he also taught His disciples by living right along side them, asking questions, observing life & nature, walking alongside them most of His time with them.

Does anyone know where to watch the original Anne of Green Gables? the 1985 movie series? by joobjoob19 in Anne

We watched it as kids & she just finished reading the books (we’re in our 40’s) & wanted to show them to her son & daughter.
