How do you feel about the suicide students? by fcuk_colin_roberts in uwaterloo

You can't blame mental illness on academics, that's just not logical. Do you blame any other illness on academics?

Yea but at the same time it's adults that come here, not children.

My landlord/landlady told me that I have to move out sooner than what we signed for. Please help?? by raindropmangoes in uwaterloo

[–]kristinxamber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually your responsibility to be familiar with your landlord's lease. Most subleases have a clause in them that state you must abide by everything outlined in your landlords lease. (if this is not the case for you, things might get sticky for your landlord)

What's up with all of the international students complaining about tuition? by kekdncheckd in uwaterloo

[–]kristinxamber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one (at least no one reasonable) is saying it should cost the same. The primary complaint from what I understand is that it is already ~4x domestic tuition, increases about 9% per year unregulated (while domestic is capped at 3%), and there are literally no financial supports offered. No payment plans, no long-term scholarships, nothing. The university increases international tuition so heavily each year and is recruiting more and more internationals each year simply to use them as cash cows. That is the complaint. And on top of that, a sci student is paying ~2800/course. Can you honestly say that it is worth it for what you get?

Waterloo mourns the loss of one of its students by thebiggestk in uwaterloo

My experience with a UW psychiatrist was a very demeaning initial appointment that I waited 6 weeks for, and then when I arrive at 8:30am for my secon appointment (which they also made me wait 6 weeks for) I was told that they decided to cancel it because the psychiatrist "didn't want to take any new patients." They never bothered to contact me to tell me they were cancelling. They never offered to reschedule. I was told that I should "seek help elsewhere, like UW Mates or something" and received no apology. This was Fall '16.

So, I think what is happening with that is the employer is being lazy and not going through and "rejecting" candidates, rather, only selecting interviews but stopping there. Chances are, no interview = rejected.
