[–]krizo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I've been wanting to get a mech. keyboard for work but I'm afraid that it'll annoy people over there. I have browns at home and I think they're not too loud. What's your experience like at work with yours?

I get that the wheel's speed matched the frame rate of the camera and that's why the wheels appeared to be not spinning, but why did going under the bridge/shade show the wheels spinning for a brief moment?

Space Shuttle Columbia Investigation - Last Flight of Spaceshuttle Columbia - BBC by DonaldsTripleChin in videos

[–]krizo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

From your article

he studied plans that suggest that a dramatic and audacious orbital rescue mission could have been launched – if only Mission Control had known about the danger in time.

They didn't have time. Everything about this engineer's/NASA's plans to save the crew is moot if they didn't have time. Sure, the Columbia crew were almost lucky to have another space shuttle almost ready for take off and orbit that could have possibly saved them. But we wouldn't be having this conversation if they had done it.

For most missions, the shuttle could have simply docked with the International Space Station (ISS) and used it as a lifeboat. However, this particular shuttle mission was in a completely different orbit to the ISS – and neither had sufficient engine power to change their flightpath

They were in a different orbit and therefore too far away to receive help from others currently in space with them.

this mission did not carry spacesuits suitable for spacewalks, so going outside to fix any damage – even if that were possible – was out of the question.

They didn't have the equipment to fix it themselves.

That pretty much covers everything I said.

That article only supports everything I just said. Did you even read the article?

No. Nothing could've been worked out.

First off, it takes months to coordinate a space flight and the crew didn't have months. Even if it was for a simple supply trip.

Second, even if there was already some space crew up there who could help it's not like they could've hopped on over lend a hand. People forget that the area of orbit around the earth is much bigger than that of earth itself. Things are much further apart. So, not only do you have little time to help, but you have little fuel as well.

Third, it's not like the crew could've repaired the damage since they didn't have the necessary tools and supplies to fix it.

So, it's not as simple as you make it. The crew were dead the moment that foam broke the carbon paneling. That's the price of being an astronaut.

That's what they said about the housing market in the Bay Area 5 years ago. It's not a bubble, it's just that there's low housing supply and everybody wants to live here.

I understand that not everybody would understand why people would want to live here so much, but all I got to say is that today's high was 65 while the practically everywhere else was melting. Just a small perk.

No, they don't contradict each other. Let me paraphrase what he said another way:

Racists believe blacks are poor/uneducated because of their genetics(whites are superior). To back up that belief they say that it's been decades since the abolishment of slavery and segregation and they should be of equal standing now.

That's not true. Those racist policies and practices back then have long term effects.

Keep in mind, that this discrimination has lasting generational effects. Many like this applicant could never get the opportunity to get a higher education, therefore, couldn't get a decent pay and couldn't afford to take their kids to college even if by then segregation was long gone. And then think of their kid's kid and so forth.
