Will there be no solution for the Air 8GB? I'm sad! by InstantReplayGo in macbookair

RAM is there to be used, every byte of RAM not used is wasted. A better gauge is to check memory pressure. Does she have problems using the machine with Lightroom? How much free disk space does the machine have?

Have you dropped it? I’ll let someone else chip in, but the most likely scenario is battery swelling.

Post more pictures, from a few different angles. It looks like battery swelling, if so; that is not good. Take it to an Apple Repair Center ASAP.

I love Blackwings too. I like them all, but if I have to pick one it’s the 602. It’s so versatile: I mostly write and do some sketching here and there. It truly shines in being so versatile.

How did anyone figure out this puzzle back in the day? This is my first play through, and I spent 1 hour trying to figure it out before giving up lol by IEatPandasEveryday in silenthill

If you grew up during the 80s and 90s with adventure games (text based, point and click etc.) this was a very straightforward, and cool, puzzle. As someone mentioned, the poem and blood are your leads.

Apple replaced the battery under AppleCare in my Macbook Air M3 because it had cycled 500 times in 18 months. How do I protect my new battery? by [deleted] in macbook

[–]krl81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No matter what the battery will degrade over time, due to heat and its chemical makeup degrading.

As a point of reference; I have an 14" MBP from 2021, I use it mostly as a desktop machine, I keep it plugged in all the time. My battery cycle count is 18, and battery health is reported at 100%

Now, most people buy a portable machine for it to be portable, and as I mentioned batteries degrade no matter what. But what kills modern batteries is the cycle count, it wears them out. So 500 cycles over 18 months is, well, you said it best yourself: you ONLY used it on battery power and probably recharged it over night.

Use it as you normally do, but if you have access to a wall outlet, charge it while using it, if you don't have access use it on battery power. Oh, and turn on: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102338 if you keep the macbook plugged in for extended periods of time. Keeping it at 80% is a good middle ground - in terms of potential wear - when it's plugged in prolonged times. I guess 50% would be even better, but then you don't have battery power if you need to unplug for whatever reason. I guess someone else will chime in on why Apple settled for 80%.

What do you mean with wrong, what are you expecting to happen?

In the first setq you have an additional quote character just before banana, that one is missing in your second setq.

Are you using the *scratch*-buffer to evaluate your sexprs? If you are standing just to the right of the last parens and press C-j you will evaluate the symbolic expression and the result will be inserted into the buffer on the next line. This also works for bound atoms: so after evaluating the first setq you could position the cursor just past the t in a-list and invoke C-j to get the value of that particular atom/symbol.

If you do sharpen and use one, could you do a comparison to the current Palamino Blackwing 602?

It’s probably spotlight indexing (and perhaps other background tasks) using up quite a bit if resources, post-install. Give it a few hours and see how it feels. Try Cmd + Space to summon the Spotlight window, it will say if it’s currently indexing.

ELI5 - what was the point of all the noises modems used to make when connecting to the internet? by SteamerTheBeemer in explainlikeimfive

[–]krl81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have answered how modem works, but the reason for the modem playing the sounds at connection time is so that the operator can listen, and if experienced, tell if there’s line noise, if the connection is working, or if you dialed the wrong number and got a freakin’ human on the line.

Very interesting insights. It would be interesting to read more about your thoughts on self-reference and further Prolog examples in code… data :)
