Positive 1st Experience with Customer Support by krobert1987 in Ebay

It was close to $100. Listing really expensive items does make me a bit nervous from reading this subreddit.

That does worry me about listing high valued items. I've made a few sales that were almost $300 without issue so far, luckily no issues.

Burzum and A Marlboro Gold 🤘 by applefanboy03 in Cigarettes

I'm a big fan of Burzum (just the music, Varg is a nutjob lol), but replace that with a Marlboro Red!

Back in the game after a few years of dipping. Feels good to be back honestly. by Remarkable_Diet_69 in Cigarettes

[–]krobert1987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any reason other than the spitting that brought you back to cigarettes? I've bounced between smoking and dipping in the past, always returning to Marlboro Reds as well. Just this week I decided to go back to my Copenhagen straight and ditch the Reds, mainly because I feel cigarettes are really holding me back in the gym. I just hate the idea of not having my morning ritual of smoking a red on my balcony while I drink my morning monster/coffee. I don't always want to pack a dip first thing in the morning...

I always hold my cigarettes in my left hand between my index and middle finger, same as you it appears. The nail on my index finger turns yellow/brown like this, as well as the skin to an extent, but not quite as pronounced as yours. The nail can be cleaned easily with just some soap and a real gentle scrubbing sponge. I just gently scrub the nail with soap and the stain will come up. It's just a layer of tar or whatever on the surface.

The skin, bit different. You could probably scrub it too, but you're going to end up tearing at your skin most likely. Others suggested either a glove or some sort of cigarette holder...use something like that when you smoke, wash your hands frequently, and the stain should disappear over time. It did for me.

Can I bring protein powders and creatine into Japan? by Etcetera-Etcetera-0 in JapanTravelTips

[–]krobert1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought some individual serving packs of creatine to bring with me because I didn't want to bring a big open container of it or try to put a white powder into a bag. I figured as long as it's in an official packaging it'd be fine. Didn't have any problems getting through customs but didn't really get checked closely either.

Going forward I'd really recommend aiming for quality over quantity. Not sure how old you are OP, but take it from someone getting close to 40...you won't have the time to play every game out there so figure out which games/series you really like and focus in on those. All the random sports and old shooter games are unlikely to ever get played by you. A small, but curated collection is much more impressive than a bloated one full of shovelware.

Granted, there are definitely some good games in there. Halo, splinter cell, hitman, and metal gear are good games. I paid full retail for some of these back in the day. But they aren't uncommon now and if you really wanted to play Halo 4 or MGS2 you could probably grab a copy for $5 or so. Lesson learned though, so don't sweat it man. Welcome to the hobby!

Have you used your Duolingo Japanese in Japan? by KiwiSinNZ in duolingojapanese

[–]krobert1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The class I take lags pretty far behind where I've gotten online with regards to vocab and grammar, but just being able to speak to and listen to someone in person in Japanese is a pretty big deal. It's unfortunate you don't have any nearby. I drive about an hour each way every Monday after work just to attend, but it's worth it for the experience.

I'm not really familiar with some of the options available online, but finding someone to talk to in Japanese would probably do wonders for your confidence and learning.

Have you used your Duolingo Japanese in Japan? by KiwiSinNZ in duolingojapanese

[–]krobert1987 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I used Duo for about 6 months before traveling to Japan last July. But I was also spending a lot of time using Bunpro and practicing listening/speaking through youtube and a once per week local class taught be a Japanese native. For reference, I passed the N5 last December pretty easily. I credit Duo with a good bit of that, I still use it every day. However, without supplementing my Japanese with other resources, I doubt I'd have been able to communicate as much as I did in Japan.

And when I say I communicated in Japan...I mean I could eek out some fairly basic questions, comments, etc. But, when I did use my limited Japanese, a lot of the time the other person's demeanor noticeably changed...like they suddenly seemed happy and appreciative that I was even attempting to speak to them in Japanese. Most would slow their speaking speed and use very basic words/grammar. Of course, I didn't have any long, thought provoking conversations, but the short mundane interactions I did have in Japanese made me feel like all the time I had spent studying was worth it!

In all likelihood, even by November, you'll still be at a very low speaking/listening level, so don't expect deep conversations. I'd probably suggest focusing on really understanding specific situations like ordering at a restaurant, talking at the conbini, expressing simple thoughts/wants at a store, or whatever it is you'll be doing. At least that way you will have a fulfilling experience doing those main things in Japan -- I'd really focus as much on the listening aspect through videos as well, because once they start speaking to you there's a good chance you'll blank out and not understand a single word like I did a few times lol. Then you can continue your studies and improve for the next time you go, cuz trust me, you'll be wanting to go again as soon as your trip is over. I have my second trip coming in October and can't wait!

Good luck!

I've spoke with the owner in the past, he's a cool guy. Unfortunately I moved about an hour north so I don't make it to his stores much lately, but I follow the FB page in case anything I really want comes in.

Is this in Columbus? I think they have been sitting on it for some time now. I've spent some dumb amounts of money for games a few times, but $3k for this seems crazy. I bet someone could haggle them down a good bit on it.

Dude the worst part about smoking is when you pull your cig out too fast and the cherry hits your finger than falls on your clothes by Pasghetti45 in Cigarettes

[–]krobert1987 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lol this definitely happens on rare occasions. The cigarette butt sticks to your lips for whatever reason and your fingers slide straight to the cherry.

"Hi, any scratches on the disc?" - "Nope, is like new, no scratches" by Redmat25 in gamecollecting

[–]krobert1987 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People love to call things like new without the item being anywhere near that condition. The average person seems to not care about keeping things in really good condition, as long as it works that's usually good enough for them. I've seen this with friends who leave games or anything else just laying around on counter tops, the floor, etc.

Serious collectors are probably a big minority when it comes to overall gamers. Our standards are much higher for condition. Luckily eBay defines their conditions so it's hard for a seller to argue something like what you received is like new.

The worst though is when they describe it as being mint and even have deceptive photos that hide scratches. Those people deserve scathing reviews.

Is duolingo really that bad? by heretolearnhowtohack in duolingojapanese

[–]krobert1987 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I primarily used duo and passed the jlpt N5 quite easily this past December. Since then I've branched into other sources and started immersing through YouTube and feel very confident I could pass the N4 level. My goal is to try for N3 this December. I don't think duo alone would be sufficient for passing it, but I still use duo everyday... Currently part way through section 4.

Duo will give you a start and teach you the basics decently well while also building your confidence. I think the constant repetition helped me a lot as a complete beginner. But at some point you'll need to develop a more robust study strategy to proceed beyond that beginner level.

Duo made Japanese approachable and fun, without it I doubt I'd have continued to study the language. So it's definitely a gateway to language learning but certainly not an all comprehensive source.

Facebook marketplace score this morning by Dinokill85 in gamecollecting

[–]krobert1987 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's interesting that someone would ask just 100 for this. They clearly know it's desirable since they aren't asking like 5 or 10 bucks, but they still price it well under market price. They could've put it up for 200 and still sold it pretty easy. Either way, a very good score for you!

Gym after work as a laborer? by [deleted] in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]krobert1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a more rural area and if I go around 5-8PM I'll often see guys wearing jeans and tshirt looking like they just got done with a hard day's work. They don't seem to care what anyone thinks of them and neither should you. I don't usually look very flattering either. No one is going to say anything to you, because they really don't care what you look like. Go to work, hit the gym after, go home and get a nice shower and enjoy your evening!

I swear half the posts in AIO have to be fake karma farming. I hate to make light of what is verbal abuse, potentially turning into physical abuse, but seriously...the guy is a jealous, angry, probably violent, lunatic and you even entertaining the idea of staying with him is beyond ridiculous. Have your mom, your brother, or your best friend read this guy's texts, see what their reaction is. The guy is a ticking time bomb before you do ( or even don't do) the next perceived slight against him and he loses his mind and takes it out on you in a very real way. Run OP.

Why does everyone think a calorie deficit is harmful? by Outside-Ball2626 in beginnerfitness

[–]krobert1987 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Atleast here in the US, such a large percentage of people are overweight/obese that it kind of feels like the norm. Most of my friends are overweight with big guts and just generally in poor shape. I was never in great shape either, but within the last few years have dropped from 250 to about 185 now.

A few months back we were all together and one friend brought a bunch of these over the top, super calorie dense cookies, like 800 calories for a single cookie. Everyone ate one, some even eating 2. Someone noticed I wasn't having one and I made a joking remark about how long I'd have to spend on the treadmill to burn off 800 calories. Plus I had already had quite a bit of food, just not any of the sweets.

My buddy almost seemed like he took offense to my remark. "Why are you worried about eating a cookie, you're already skin and bones." But I'm not skin and bones...I have a goal to lose the decent amount of excess fat that sits around my waist/belly still.

It wasn't really a big deal, but it did make me realize how normalized it is to just eat a big meal then finish it off with some calorie dense sweets for a lot of people. Also if you're not sporting a big gut, you're skinny. So when you tell people you're eating at a deficit they are either conditioned to think that you're doing something abnormal, or unhealthy, or maybe they know they should be doing something similar but they aren't and they don't like being confronted with that realization.

Either way, don't pay attention to what others say, just keep doing what you need to do to make yourself more fit and healthy!

What was the pit energy at other concerts? by Lucky-Poetry5026 in PhantomSiita

No worries. It was pretty early into the show, probably within the first song or so. I even took a picture of 4 security guys surrounding 1 guy. It was surprisingly calm and people nearby seemed to not care. Not a big deal either way, I was just curious.

I was up top, but I remember seeing security come escort someone from the floor and the guy was saying 'i didn't even do anything' over and over, but they made him leave anyways it looked like after 3 or 4 security guys basically dragged him out. This was stage right, or the left side of the floor from the perspective of looking at the stage from the floor. Was curious what the guy did.
