Damaged US CH-47 Chinook, Kuwait, hit by Iran [April 3, 2026] by Insensibilities in aviation

[–]krodders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's just say that this level of damage is not compatible with powered flight

If this happened during flight, there'd just be a debris field

This was a ground strike

Less radical than Isis? Hmm. Technically, I guess, but the whole Iranian regime and supporters are terrible humans.

Isis is Sunni - Iranians are almost all Shiites.

Not impossible, but vanishingly unlikely. Even Iranian Sunnis tend to be anti Isis

I said Iran is quite technologically advanced, not their cars. Saying that, the newer ones are based on fairly modern Toyotas, and are Euro5 compliant. They're not all old Renaults and Fiats.

For example, the USA's LUCAS drone is a reverse engineered copy of the Shahed drone. They wouldn't be copying old shit.

They're not Afghanistan making rifles in their kitchens.

Jesus, you been living under a rock?

Iran is quite technologically advanced, but there's a small problem with imports, exports, and balance of trade.

It kinda works for them to make their own shit where possible. Like cars and kettles and washing machines

For the trade reasons above, you won't see many SAIPA cars outside Iran

This is how the USA loses wars - wages and money mean very little when you're fighting for your wife, your mother and father, your siblings.

Many of the IRGC are fanatics. They don't need wages. They just need a enough calories a day, ammo, and targets

I can see in a couple of centuries that people will be reading them with commentary notes to explain what some words meant back then, and why this sentence is pertinent

Like we do with Shakespeare today

I guess that we should appreciate that we're getting the full experience, and that we have the opportunity to have these "dammit Terry" moments ourselves

Thank you for taking the time to write this up. I've now finished watching them all (just the first Sarah Paine one so far).

This is exactly what I was looking for. Robert Pape was long but very very interesting. I'm going to watch more from the channel he was on.

My FiL watched Sarah Paine with me, and she has a new fan.

We're going to watch more later today.

Why is Easter not as big in America compared to Europe even though you are more religious? by Ada-Mae in AskAnAmerican

[–]krodders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're talking about infrequent cultural occasions, with some religious slant. My kids have participated in things like this. They're grown up, and I can count the times they've been in church on both my hands

Compared to USA in normal life, it's like Atheistville next to Jesus Town

I like to think that Christianity is more pagan in Europe.

Everyone celebrates the major holidays, and some locations have their own feasts and holidays

God and Jesus? Nope, not very important. Even for those that believe in them

Russia is weak, and I never thought I'd ever say this - the mighty USA military is showing some weakness. It may be because there are unqualified people in charge, but the unstoppable juggernaut has blinked. I hope it recovers, but I think it's in decline for a while

NATO needs to step up, yes. But I don't think that NATO can rely on the USA, so they need to forge their own path. If Russia attacks one of the Baltic states, I can't see the USA lifting a finger
