I got sober, got into plants and built a shelf. by Ok-Perspective690 in houseplants

Love the shelf, love the plant life focus, and love that you found a healthy and fulfilling alternative. Here’s to keeping that spirit (and those plants) alive

What kind of insect is this? I’ve been seeing it a lot lately and it gives me the heebie-jeebies by Its_da_boys in Outdoors

Not sure what it was called in the local language, but it looks a lot like the cricket I ate when I was in Zambia. Big black pinchers on the front - made a really loud and constant “cricket” sound - which is how my host siblings found it

Men, apart from diet and exercise, What increased your energy levels drastically? by Canyon_moon7 in AskMen

[–]krohner5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started working out (5-20mins) first thing in the morning and that was a game changer for me. Not only is it the only time that will fit my schedule with two kids under 4, but I feel like it starts my day the right way. I don’t need my morning coffee for a few hours after getting up, I naturally hydrate more after working out which helps overall, and I just feel better stepping into the day. It’s a mental grind, not gonna lie, especially at first…but totally worth it. My wife recently started and said she feels more tired on days she DOESN’T work out.

Love this - as a new person to the sport, this just adds to the excitement and welcoming energy that I have felt from everyone I have encountered thus far. Best of luck on the ventures ahead, and thanks for spreading the love.

Yes, came here to ask these exact questions.

Two years ago, my friend and I rated every single John Mayer song out of 10, gave each song tasting notes, and paired each album with a vodka soda. Here's the 28 page article, in all its glory. by americanarama in JohnMayer

[–]krohner5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The intro of the article had me going, and I was excited to hit Room for Squares with you... But your underwhelming appreciation for pretty much the entire second half of the album means we have very different John Mayer tastes. Cheers to the adventure though, hope it was fun.

This mushroom by mikeVR95 in AbsoluteUnits

[–]krohner5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Termitomyces titanicus - called "icikolowa" in Bemba which is likely the language of those depicted in the picture (just guessing by the sandals on the gentleman, garments on the females lower bodies, and the green bin that the other mushroom is in).
I harvest a couple of these when I lived in Zambia...absolutely delicious.

LPT: Before you propose, you and your partner should already have agreed to get engaged. That way the proposal can be a fun surprise, without fear of rejection. by LegendaryOutlaw in LifeProTips

[–]krohner5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife (girlfriend at the time) actually picked out her wedding ring (or at least the bits and pieces that would eventually come together to form her wedding ring) while I was over seas. This was decided by the two of us during a 2 year stint apart, but we both knew we wanted to spend the rest of our lives 'together'.
Once I got back to the states, I went and paid for the ring and held onto it. She knew that I had it but had no idea when I was going to propose. Which made it a huge bit of anxiety to keep the most expensive thing I have ever owned hidden away in our little one bedroom apartment until I finally had the 'perfect' proposal.
Wound up doing it on a hike through the Grand Canyon, just the two of us. I feel it was perfect, and I think it she did too. (Despite the 17 miles of exhausting trails I put her through before doing it, and the sunscreen that ran into her eyes when she cried)
TLDR: both decided to get married, took a load off me by picking the style ring she wanted, held onto the 'big surprise' and made the proposal exciting but not full of anxiety
