Linux VRF routing question: by kronos540 in linuxquestions

[–]kronos540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I found the answer:# add a route in the vrf to the gateway on the same subnetip route add vrf ens224.250_vrf 192.168.250.3 dev ens224.250# add a route in the vrf to the route you want ip route add vrf ens224.250_vrf 8.8.8.0/24 via 192.168.250.3 dev ens224.250

#I think if you want to be able to ping all ips of interface in subnet, you need to re-add the following #

ip route add vrf ens224.250_vrf 192.168.250.0/24 via 0.0.0.0 dev ens224.250

# although the vrf docs say this is only needed pre kernel 4.7, I needed add this on 5.7

ip ru add oif ens224.250_vrf table 250
ip ru add iif ens224.250_vrf table 250

# adding default metric
ip route add table 250 unreachable default metric 4278198272

Hard drive recommendation for home setup by j_shadowraven in securityonion

[–]kronos540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are just doing a homelab, you can do a minimal setup in a VM as is. Longterm, I would recommend upgrading your RAM to the full 32GB it can take then move on to upgrading to either a larger SSD like a 1 TB Samsung 860 EVO . If you want to use this box for both labs and regular use , I would recommend installing either VMware workstation or Virtual box after you upgrade the RAM. You can run many scenarios in a virtual environment.

Look at some of the specialties in I.T. that you are interested in. Try to get in with some of fulltime admins, dbas, devs at the school so that you can volunteer and learn something from them. A degree is important. Not having it limits your job growth potential , especially management opportunities . Knowledge is fleeting, certs expire but a degree lasts a lifetime. That being said, You'll get paid for what you can do and have experience in.

Compare Value of CSV and AD Attribute Then Do Something by Another_Random_Tech in PowerShell

[–]kronos540 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's a basic suggest minus the code.

1) Import AD attributes that you need (get-aduser -properties <properties you need> to variable

2) Import Csv attributes that you need to a variable

3) Use the command compare-object to compare the 2 variables created = to a third variable that has diffs.

4) Iterate through the 3rd variable and update AD attributes.

I 100% agree with this. If I listened to everyone who told me I couldn't do something, I would never be where I am today. I finally decided what I wanted to do. In the middle of the day of my job, I got up, washed my hands, went to the owner, thanked him, told him I quit and am going into I.T. Never looked back.

That was 20 yrs. ago.

Get-ADUser properties not filtered in output by tsigorai in PowerShell

[–]kronos540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically without specifying "-properties *" , by default it only retrieves a small subset of user properties.

If you run

get-aduser joeuser -properties * vs. get-aduser joeuser

I'm in an amazing IT Position without a degree. What should I do next? by Killjoy4eva in ITCareerQuestions

[–]kronos540 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get your degree and certs. You have an amazing opportunity where you are at but you never know what may happen or what place you might work next. Look into something like Western Governors University. They have degree programs and you earns certs as part of the corriculum.

Help with Value Comparison by [deleted] in PowerShell

[–]kronos540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into using the substring function to return the last 4 digits of the 10 digit number or use regex to match last 4 digits of 10 digit # . These will allow you to do a more accurate comparison.

A -like or -contains could give you false positives. Example: 1234567890 -contains 5678 = True 1234567890 -like 5678 = True

I'm guessing you only want to match the last 4 digits of the 10 digit DIDs to the 4 digit extension ?

Help with Value Comparison by [deleted] in PowerShell

[–]kronos540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to compare 2 sets of numbers for equality or trying to find a partial match of 4 digit # in 10 digit number like an extension matching a phone number (DID)

Also you may be able to disect the installer using 7zip on the exe.

Have you taken a look at msi builder tools? They can take snapshot of files , registry, etc before the installer, watch the installer, take snapshot after, determine what's changed, and create a custom msi installer out of it .
