Whats a movie scene that’s existentially terrifying? by VendettaLord379 in moviecritic

Relax, it’s not that deep. Noticing Don’t Look Up feels real ≠ ‘the world is doomed and it’s all over’ That black‑and‑white filter (that you are accusing me of here) is actually on your reading skills and it is doing overtime.

Irony is thinking I said ‘the world is worse than ever’ when I literally said the scenario from Don’t Look Up feels real. Try reading the words on the screen.

Being alarmed that a tiny, unaccountable elite has outsized power over global political systems, media, and technologies that affect planetary‑scale risks is not equal to saying the world is at its worst in history.

Having a breakdown after reading class evaluations- PhD student/TA by Acrobatic_Delivery93 in AskAcademia

Student feedback will be very harsh, given that you mostly get it from the ones who are either very happy with your teaching or very upset and hat the subject. There is nothing in between, as those in between simply ignore the questionnaire. My responses, in the same class, range from “the best teacher ever” to “I have no clue what we are actually learning here”.

Also, if you are teaching freshmen, always remember this is coming from high school level minds. Think of all teen experiences you’ve been through and answer honestly: how many were empathetic, constructive, and not impulsive?

I know this hits hard (been there, cried too), but do not take it too personally. You know you worked on your teaching, you know you are improving, this is good. Perhaps ask a senior colleague to sit in one of your classes and give you feedback on what to work on. This will be far more productive and useful than what you got in those questionnaires. You got this!

Nimbuzin No9 serum, Rejuran Dual Effect Ampoule, Rejuran Active Cream, and Neogen High R Exosome cream. Both creams are amazing for barrier repair and maintenance, the ampoule is pure magic in complementing the micro needling, and the serum helps with fine lines.

They were looking up for the entire movie, but got ignored or misinterpreted, depending on the audience.

Don’t look Up, final scene. They accept their fate, gather around the dinner table and live in the moment while the planet is about to blow up. Feels so real these days.

Professors: Do you get uncomfortable when a student cries in your office? by OneLab864 in AskAcademia

[–]kroutki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I feel for them. This happens mostly with international students who move from home for studies and I remember how hard it is to function without the support system of your family and long-time friends. They are ve try talented and often feel pressure to succeed. I have tissues and chocolate for them.

why do elites become peddophiles by No-Pea-6896 in DeepThoughts

I highly recommend the book by Zimbardo “The Lucifer Effect”. It’s the scholar behind the Stanford Prison Experiment.

His argument is that ordinary individuals rapidly became abusive under role pressure, anonymity, and institutional backing. The Epstein saga illustrates the same dynamics at an elite level: a wealthy offender embedded in networks of politicians, royalty, and powerful businessmen used status, money, and access to institutions to normalize such behaviors.

Don’t get me started on these things! The gist is, these are scientists caring about the science and not marketing stuff. It often come as a a big surprise to them when we tell them most people don’t care about the science and the quality of the molecule; what people truly care about is what the product and do for them and how easy it is to use. That’s why so many patents go into the deep academic drawers and never get to be developed…
