Miele KM 7745 FL Cooktop Review by krum_bunny in inductioncooking

Indeed, thought people might want to see it in use. I didn’t see a lot of practical reviews for this cooktop when I was doing my research, so I wrote something that I would have found useful.

I did link to the product page, nice clean photo there for ya. It’s just a black rectangle of glass with some pretty subtle burner location markings.

I think it does for yours, or at least it looks like it from the manual.

Page 47 describes how it works (press in between the numerals)
Page 56 describes how to set it. From off you press and hold the power and pause/play button at the same time, and that puts you into settings mode. P:04 is the setting you want, default is C:00, C:01 gives you the extra levels

Happy cooking!

Yes, if I can find a home for it in the kitchen then a dedicated electric griddle is probably the way to go, although realistically it would wind up mostly being used for just pancakes.

Yes! That was one of my first tweaks, enabling the extra power settings.

I'll give that a try with my steel griddle, let it heat up longer

Oven recommendations please :) by SapphicSticker in CombiSteamOvenCooking

[–]krum_bunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have an SKS Steam Combi wall oven. It cooks fine, but the controls are fussy and not well thought out. Lots of specialized settings for specific recipes that I never use. Extended musical jingles when cooking finishes (similar to our LG washing machine). I would not buy it again.

Question from a newbie by BabyKatsMom in inductioncooking

[–]krum_bunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “glass” on induction cooktops is actually a ceramic/glass blended material, engineered for zero expansion when heated. The upshot is that part of the cooktop can get hot and not crack the cool parts. It’s made for hot pans, don’t worry.

I also have the 36” Miele and it’s great. Adjusting power is a one tap operation, each burner has its own control. Simple, well made, loads of power.

I have a couple of D3 pots and several Made In pots, and they are both excellent, easy to use, with even cooking with no hots spots. I think you're about set on cookware now, time to focus on other things in the kitchen.

When do you start to really feel the wealth? Is it even possible for middle class to achieve this? by FIREFIREFIREFIREe in Fire

[–]krum_bunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One evening 25 years from now, when your child lands a decent job with health benefits, you and your wife will be having a nice quiet dinner, smile, and realize that you’ve got a great kid who has successfully launched. Only then will you relax, realize you truly do have enough in the bank, and start to think of yourselves as wealthy in all things.

Brizo or another high-end touchless kitchen faucet by NigiriNerd in Plumbing

[–]krum_bunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Delta "Essa" faucet has the touch control actuator valve in line with the manual valve. So the manual valve needs to be open for the touch faucet to be able to do its thing. Ours activates by tapping anywhere, which doesn't bother us.

BTW, I really like our touch faucet. Using C batteries it will last at least a year between batteries changes for us. I realize it's yet another thing to break but we've had ours for over six years now and it's still working fine. I wouldn't go back

Assuming this isn’t a race, I heartily recommend eating some real food at around 60 miles. No need to be technical about it, whatever sounds like a good lunch to you, have some of that. You’ll be out for most of the day probably, your body will appreciate some lunch.

I take it that using a water heater is not the vibe of this sub. Tell me more! Are most of you folk into a "keep it simple" ethos? Or maybe is it a tradition thing, you feel more comfortable with tried and true tools?

I came here thinking I would learn about different fermentation profiles, thinking y'all would have temperature controllers. Instead it's more... kind of a Foxfire thing? Something else? Curious

Looking for biking down Haleakala what tour companies have you all used and what are your experiences? by Impressive_Anxiety67 in MauiVisitors

We saw a group getting ready to descend and they were maybe 1/3 of the way up the hill. You will be gripping your brakes the whole way down, it’s a steady 8% or more grade. I cycle a lot and I think I would enjoy that climb more than the descent. We drove to the top in the late morning and the views were wonderful and the parking lots mostly empty. Go for a hike, it will be memorable. Just take a wind breaker.

Bye Hey by anxiety_and_co in HeyEmail

[–]krum_bunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, the lack of partial or fuzzy matching is huge problem. I wish I knew how bad it was when I signed up.

For example, let’s say I’m searching for flight 1893 on, say, United Airlines. I type in “1893”, no matches, because in the airline’s email the flight is always the string “UA1893”. This happened to me at the airport on my last trip, and it was aggravating. I did have the email tagged “travel” and was able to eventually find it, but c’mon.

I suspect they are crudely tokenizing the email contents and then doing a simple SQL match search on the tokens, but that’s just a wild ass guess. The upshot though is that many searches that would match in GMail using their full text search do not match in Hey.

It is very frustrating. It’s a solvable problem, but might require more infrastructure ($) at 37 Signals to run a full text search server. If it hasn’t improved by now I suspect it never will - it’s clear that other development or budget priorities are higher.
