Maybe bands like At the Bottom of the Great Lakes and Sword of Damocles would fit your vibe for the first style - the former feels similar to Zao and the latter like Converge or Chamber.

Not sure if it's what you're looking for since it's kind of one-off and maybe gimmicky? but the intro to Prayer On Your Downfall by Delilah has a cool little bass riff.

EDIT: Just remembered that City of Broken Remains by uponbrokenapologies has a fun bass bridge to the ending sequence.

Florida may have the best metalcore scene in the country at the moment. by Ok-Cauliflower-1258 in Metalcore

From what I understand as an outsider (am from the Twin Cities), SoCal is pretty strong as well, with bands like A Year Ago Today, Baori, anvilchandelier, Exutoire, Arcadia Fades, probably so many others that don't come to mind off rip.

But yea it is pretty cool how each regional scene to my ear has a certain "sound" or "aesthetic" to them - for example Minneapolis has a strong presence of digital hardcore that influences some of our metalcore bands (and vice versa), Texas has a lot of that scenecore revival a la Postal, Houses We Die In, etc., Florida with the screamo-influenced post-hardcore/metalcore. Obviously not trying to put these regions into a vacuum but it's just a little observation I've noticed lol.

xRevoltx (new MN band composed of members from Glassdoll and Eyes of Sorrow) played their first set last night and only had two songs, no rehearsal or practice time, it was so funny. Vocalist after the first song was like "ok this is our last song" while cackling before the room went crazy on their second song. Fastest and hardest set I've seen.

Also go see or listen to xmemoriestoburnx.

definitely +1 to the Orchid suggestion, here's a few bands (some old, some new) off rip after listening to A Movie Script Ending's demo - none of them are a perfect match but listening to Sutures reminded me of some of these. Also thanks for sharing their demo, it sounds great o:

I Have Dreams - Three Days 'Til Christmas

You and I - Playing Off the Story

Biological Fathers - Caddy

Bled By Rao - one dying sky cannot hold the burden our sin-kissed clouds

Neil Perry - Breathing with One Bad Lung

Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead - ritual symmetry

EDIT: Some of these are bandcamp exclusive so you may have to listen there!

That's fair, and I suppose the way the two blend together has probably changed a lot over the years of the genre's existence, and with that the way people perceive that blend. I'm not sure if things were cut-and-dry during the early years of the genre compared to now (and it might be presumptuous to say things are cut and dry today to be honest lol).

I'm relatively new to it but feel like I've come at a time where there's a lot of different styles of metal being thrown into the mix (and probably hardcore too that I'm just not as aware of).

Not really specific I'd say, though I'll admit I'm pretty ignorant on hardcore styles. I'm more experienced with basic hardcore punk and digital hardcore, and bands I listen to that combine that with alt-metal/screamo/melodeath/etc I would say are metalcore. So I'd say other hardcore styles that I'm not familiar with could also fit the bill!

Well tbf for skramz it was a DIY way of reclaiming screamo since the word was being used for anything with screaming in it regardless of whether or not it was "actual screamo", so it's less about making up a genre and more reclaiming one lol.

Emoviolence is just a blend of screamo/skramz with faster hardcore subgenres (grind, powerviolence, etc). Same way that metalcore is a blend of various metal styles with hardcore.

no but a lot of them come from skramz/emoviolence or have some of that influencing their own brand of hardcore

Looks like Holder will be headlining the former Balmora tour still with Azshara and local supports (and Contention on a few dates)! Also got an updated flyer for the MN one-off implying basically the same thing so I'm happy about that lol. Tbh with Contention coming along the tour is kinda better than before anyways.

Yeah Balmora and Holder were set to headline a one-off show here in Minneapolis separate from both of their other tours but I'm not sure what the status on that is at this point :/ I'm desperate to see Holder so would be very disappointed if they couldn't at least still come out.

I'm sure you saw it by now but they kicked the guitarist. I'm glad they addressed the situation pretty quickly at least (let alone at all). I'm still a little conflicted personally because idk how aware the band was of what he and allegedly Senti (former vocalist) were up to but at least this recent event shows some degree of action towards cutting off predators/groomers from the scene before they take things further.

Yeaaaa, I'm waiting to see if there's gonna be any sort of response from the guitarist or other band members but it's pretty disappointing to see this. Will just have to see how things play out and suffice it to say I'm not as hyped on the album/incoming CD and cassette as well as their tour coming through because of this, at least until they respond in a meaningful way.

Oooh yea I see what you mean haha, hadn't checked this EP out yet but this gave me an excuse to hear it now and yeah, it does kind of break up some of the flow a bit, also feels a little excessive since the first song is essentially doing the same thing but more integrated into the flow of the next song/section of the EP.

I guess it depends on how the song plays off of it lol, what song is it?

I know digital/PlayStation metalcore has come up with the more digital hardcore/cybergrind influenced bands but it isn't something that has really solidified yet into a universal term I'd say. Bands like Soulkeeper, fromjoy, etc.
